I remember when Tong had that intense reaction to Greg's Gadget's "borrowed" image, it said so much about how he perceives this space. When Jon referred back to it being covered here, I was like YEP I REMEMBER THINKING WHEN YOU GUYS COVERED THIS TONG IS GOING TO BE BIG MAD. There's also the fundamentally different mind set that he comes at CNET and just west coast in general. Genius Bar's popularity is growing because you don't have that mindset, it's just counter and refreshing. Stay positive, because you're seeing the real Tong now, and he gotta do what he gotta do.

I genuinely dont understand Sam's Quest hate. I wanted to try VR/AR but $3500 was out of my price range so I bought a Quest 3. I work from home and work all day in Immersed and love it. Four massive screens at once for my computer to work on. And VR gaming is super fun. Totally worth it imo

Something about Brian Tong and people like him being selected to review the product because he’s an Apple fanboy who won’t point out the all VP’s flaws that were becoming more apparent right before launch? About this Brian Tong, this is how people backed by Apple act. The one perspective i wish people were talking about with the purpose of gen 1 AVP is the notoriety. In 2 weeks, this product has brought the concept of this product category into more average households than all other VR companies combined. That is the real reason it released when it released. When you talked about the misfiring touch, it reminided me of when my mouse started to play up and didn't 100% respond to clicks. It was infuriating! It's a hard sell for customers to be satisfied with a product that it's main input isn't giving you 100%. The Quest's hand gesgures are ok, I use them if my controllers are not close at hand, but the controllers do work 100% of the time. Maybe they need to bundle a controller with the AVP.

Its wild what owning the vision pro has been like for you guys. Before, Jon was super lukewarm and was expecting to be disappointed and Sam was hyped af and leading the charge for team vision pro and now… total swap! I loved the VR podcast though haha

I have discovered that the key for comfort is to do the following, Using the single loop after putting it on adjust the part on the back of your head up/down until the vision pro is balances as much as possible between the cheeks and forehead and not heavier on one than the other, next is to dial back the tightness of the band a notch or two from what you think it should be at.

Not sure if anyone remembers, but Apple used to have another product called Apple Vision (and I still have one)... It was the Apple Vision 1710 Display. (and a couple of other models) IT was such a good monitor, still have it connected to a G3 MiniTower.. so good.

I bought an ir light off Amazon and it greatly improves hand tracking on my quest 3. You can even use hand tracking in a pitch black room.

The Zuck video really was so cringey and I’m 100% with Sam, everyone was lapping it up without realizing most of what he said was just BS. Yes the Quest is a good value at $500, but only for VR games. The Vision Pro is good for productivity, creative work, email, messaging, browsing, photos, movies, education, even some gaming. The Quest’s functionality isn’t even comparable to what the AVP can do.

What I love about meta is that they have been doing vr for over 10 years, and they think they know the market, they have a bunch of people defending them, and yet they have never made a profit, is 10 years not long enough to have your product be successful? How long can you burn resources without making money? 20 years? What authority do you have to say anything on a market where you haven’t succeeded?

I spend my life watching tv shows and movies like that’s all I do all day, which is definitely not a good thing but for someone like me the Vision Pro has been incredible. Yeah it weighs a little bit much but honestly if I put on my favorite anime, Netflix show or a 3d movie I don’t even notice it. Also I used to hate movies, couldn’t stand watching them because they take up too much time, I like shows instead because in between you can do stuff and notice how much time is passing. But with Vision Pro I’m now a movie lover. 3d movies in it is incredible and a treat.

After seeing sam show how you need to pinch, I wonder if they will eventually give you the option of using the apple watch to register the pinches?

Sam, saw a video were speaker said that there are 1.7 billion computers, almost 7 billion smart phones. Computers are good for business and scientific uses, but most people can not afford or need computers. Smart phones and pads met most people’s need. Yes, iPads may be as expensive as a computer, but buying a computer adds operating costs that iPad and smart phones do not need to use. Unlike what Apple tried to say I iPad is not a computer and that is why we pay for ease of use rather than buy a computer.

This comment is for Sam… i see your point about Vision Pro. But i will say in ways i was feeling the same way BUT this is a LONG HAUL product. Apple Vision Pro is simply just a foundational product. This is something that needs some grace. yes it is hella expensive, but I’m sure compromises were placed because I’m sure Apple wanted to do more but couldn’t because of factors being played. Sure yes things can be off and things can be trippy but most things could be fixed with software updates and some hardware things can seem off but at the end of the day its a SLOW journey this is what i had to learn. Sure i could do 90% of things on my devices BUT it’s something of a marvel to experience “the apple way” hands free. each start of a 1st gen product is going to have its flaws and its quirks but it just needs time like its predecessors.

I think Apple’s biggest issue right now is how much they deny adding gaming to their devices. Actual games that people actually wanna play. If they don’t fix this, I feel like it will become their downfall for expanding.

Black box on iOS for the iPhone is a great game as well. It has 80 puzzles. Accessibility can be improved for people with disabilities however.

Great video, only suggestion for the drop test would be to do it later so that you’re not taking that launch day experience away from someone just to destroy the unit.

Thanks for the podcast John and Sam, great as always, and sam your not alone in your opinions about VR, sorry John, the more Sam talked about his objection to Virtual Reality Headsets and VR in general, the more I agreed with him, these headsets will have their place with a certain section of the population (Professionals - 3D Designers, - Graphic Artists etc) but the the rest of us, do we have the workflow to justify the expense of these products, if not then ( VR headsets like the Vision Pro - Meta Quest and others like these ) start to become devices you might use every once in a while instead of your main driver) and anyway I could not imagine spending any more length of time in these devices then necessary (Put the device on - do your work - Take the device off - get on with life in the real world) Anyway I could be proved wrong - The Vision Pro is a 1 generation product - if any company could Make this more accessible over time in will Be Apple but I believe it will take many revisions to approach what Apple & Meta really want to achieve, Anyway all I think it will achieve it to make the human race more disconnected from each other than we are now.

I feel like people are returning the Vision Pro because it doesn't live up to the promises that were offered by Apple. Eye tracking is mostly reliable, but when elements are too close together it struggles. The Vision Pro is a cool device, but it has way too many issues to be a good value proposition for me. I appreciate Sam's honesty, the Vision Pro has tons of issues that make it not worth $4,000 to most people. I have 4K projector that delivers a better experience for watching movies, playing my PS5 and consuming content on a large screen. Not only can I watch movies with my family, I can watch for hours with no discomfort, I'm not looking through binoculars, I can use my iPhone and any other devices seamlessly. If my MacBook Pro had the issues the Vision Pro had just with the UI, I would return that as well.

VR headsets have soooo disappointed people this point but there's still massive interest in the tech , so people are only willing to pay TOY prices for it because at those prices they are OK with it becoming a door stop. the concept a VR headset can actually become a computing device that's part of your life. $3500 for a laptop/desktop is actually expensive but not beyond reason. but for a VR toy it's inconceivable because everyone's bought 2-3 VR doorstops for around the $1000 price range.

I agree with Mark, the Quest 3 does pretty much everything the Vision Pro can do plus it has vr games and its social. Just keep it real for $4000 I don't care about the future of the Vision Pro, I want the Now. The worst thing about the Vision Pro is that other products will continue to evolve while you have this $4000 out dated Brick on your desk by mid year. Have you seen X Real AR Glasses? Nobody cares that much about super clear, because just clear is good enough.

Wow, Jon and Sam have switched their opinions. Jon used to criticize the Vision Pro, but now he seems to have fallen in love with it after its release. On the other hand, Sam used to be really excited about the HMD, but now he complains about everything that is wrong with the Vision Pro. I think Sam was so excited for the HMD that he psyched himself out and became disappointed with every little thing that is not perfect in the Vision Pro.
