Thank you for making this video Alice. I live around Chicago, USA and what pulled me into the House/Techno community was the welcoming and kind nature at the shows. I went to see Yotto last week in Indianapolis and every one was so fun to talk to and dance with. Yotto himself had just played EDC Orlando to a massive crowd, but stayed to talk to every single person after the show. There is no space for hatred in the community, and I hope we can all continue to promote positivity

yeah, I feel sorry for the community, and feel bad for Benn, as this was a passion project for him, and he's lost interest in something that he WAS passionate about, because of negative comments....it's disgusting....I'm glad you're taking a positive point of view on things. Keep doing what you do.

@@legato666 that's a horrific attitude, and basically the problem. "what did they expect".....so we should just accept acidic horrific behavior online, because why? Normalize comments sections being a cesspool because they always have? What a terrible way to approach this. And we're not JUST talking comments sections. People reached out to him at his home, and threatened his family. Like....no....none of that is just "sad" that's terrible, and completely unacceptable. It shouldn't be normalized and expected.....I don't want to be associated with a world where this is just how it is, and we just leave it at that. It needs to be called out every time. I feel sorry for the community too, but I also feel the community needs to voice their concerns to KZfaq via email or thru the “help & feedback” icon in the settings tab. I just sent in a message for more features, functionality, and more accountability when reporting a comment. they are the ones creating these rules, so they are the ones who are the most responsible.

@@legato666 Both yes and no... I agree that the creators shouldn't let negative comments get to them. But also, I think it's worth to talk about. Especially in the music gear community it has gotten incredibly toxic, on levels that I have rarely seen in any other community to be honest. Both in terms of elitism and how many people seem to think that all creators are just "puppets of the gear companies". I've seen so many videos where a music creator is just saying "hey here is a cool trick I use in my DAW" and the comment section just goes bananas, turning into a warzone. You can choose to ignore it, sure, but then nothing will change.

Happy to hear your venting :) you’re amazing your channel is amazing your teachings are really valuable you make great tracks and you’re having a super positive impact on the community ❤ I tend to compare haters to the villains of some movies or fairy tales: people who reacted badly to traumatic experiences, that are not loved, that don’t have real friends or that don’t are not satisfied with their sexuality. All synonyms of unhappiness. I like to think of hater like unhappy people :) can’t see any reason why you would do that if you were happy in life!

You and Benn have my full support. It's quite alarming sometimes, to witness the toxicity of KZfaq... I think some people can't face the fact that someone is achieving what they cannot or have not, and is enjoying the process as well - so they look way too hard to find ulterior motives and feet of clay. The end result is ludicrous conspiracy theories at best, and abuse and attacks at worst. I'm saddened, but unsurprised, to hear that you get regular transphobic comments here, and according to Benn's video he was hacked and doxxed, which is scary as hell. This sort of thing really puts me off wanting to build any kind of following on KZfaq (or indeed any social media platform). I don't know whether that's a bad thing really, as I know it's hard work and it wouldn't leave much time for making music! :D Thank you for all the advice you've shared on this channel. Like many others here I'm not making Techno and yet I have found a lot of value in your videos, which says a lot. Keep doing what you do, you're awesome.

Unfortunately it's a symptom of any community that gets big enough, and combined with the anonymity of the internet just makes it worse. You see a lot of it in gaming, streaming, and other forms of entertainment. I think it's exactly like you said, insecure people, and often times young and haven't wizened up. I don't know if it's better to call it out when you see it or just ignore it and don't give them any attention (which is probably what they're seeking). Anyway, thanks for your cozy community, I appreciate everything you do. ❤❤

This is so frustrating; you don't deserve this. You're doing a very respectable job sharing your skills with the public. I've noticed that a lot people like to argue and be toxic to each other in comment sections these days and it's getting worse (FB, Insta, YT etc). What you have to keep in mind is most people's opinion are worthless and keep doing what you makes you happy. I think there is a lot of bottled frustration within people these days and they show it by commenting from a distance and safety of their bedroom. They would probably never confront anyone in person as they are mostly cowards - I'm fairly certain. As Marcel Proust said, "One must cultivate one's own garden" - meaning most people are trouble and you're better off ignoring them.

Alice! I'm right there with you. I've been a fan of yours for a few years now, your videos have always been great and have only improved. I've found them - and you - very helpful in my journey as a burgeoning music producer. I agree, the toxicity on the internet is at an all-time high, and it's really upsetting to see it negatively affecting some truly great people in the world. I'm glad you're able to withstand, and I agree that we've all suffered a terrible loss with Benn Jordan stepping away from the gear review scene. If it ever gets too much, please try to remember the toxicity isn't about you, some people just feel the need to pour anger and hate into the world, and are only ever looking on the surface. YOU are awesome, full stop, and no amount of hate can ever cover that up.

I am pleased to see more people exposing the rank bile that people seem to think is ok within the communities that pretend to be about support for music and the people making & supporting the makers. The abuse that I have received over the last decade is disgusting, and like Ben I have largely stopped any unpaid work as there is no point in offering my best (the things that people ask for) to get ignored/abused - incl by Devs, Mods & Admins who think it is my responsibility to say how amazeballz dey iz for free! Hating on people to try to make yourself feel better about yourself is never ok. The reality is that it simply shows that the person doing this is not only far from Pro but living in and spreading FEAR. What is worse is that many of these people fire hate, when called on it, hide behind the supposed right to express their opinion. Ok, everyone has the right to hate xxxxx - but - NO ONE has the right to denigrate others based on that. Even less to then turn around and say that others do not have similar rights to express their likes/dislikes/opinions. I am not a fan of "modern" but every time I discuss this, I give reasons to support my discussion. Never do I spit hate like it makes me have more rights than people I am trampling so I feel slightly less of a loser. That, again, is simply unprofessional - or the popular idea of being a Nazi. The ONLY way that we can clear our communities is by EVERYONE standing up against such Trolling. When you see someone being a jerk, don't turn away as you are simply supporting and encouraging their toxicity. Tell them very clearly that this is not ok. Once people realize that they have no support when they bully, they will either leave (no loss) or grow up and join the discussion properly (gain). :-)

I think a lot of people in the US forget that we would not have had the scene we have without LGBT culture carrying the torch. In a lot of cities, the only place you could go to hear most dance music for a long time was various clubs for LGBT people and they welcomed everyone with open arms. I was going out in late 2008-2012 and it was just an amazing time. Then once we had the first big pop-off in 2012 you could see the culture shift and become more bro scene for a while. It pulled back but nowadays you really have the "back in my day snobs" running around. All I say is "Look I paid to be here, I am going to have fun even if it's not the best thing ever". People seem to have forgotten that it is about going out dancing with friends and not wracking up some kind of social credit score.

And sometimes we have to fight and stand our ground, sometimes we have to run. In the days before Internet toxic people existed on a same scale like today. They just didn´t have the platform and reach to express themself. But in the end it´s just words and trolling of humans with serious issues. Poor and sad for them when thats their purpose in life. Let´s just grow to be happy and satisfied. I found my path in learning music and I think you guys are on the same path. Alice, there's always a ton of immature kids (and adults) who have never learned any values, just leaving a trail of toxic waste behind them wherever they go online. Trends, bandwagons, rageposting, trolling, using ad-hominem to justify themselves etc. its just a shame that its become so intense in places of such high value and beautifully crafted content like we see here. I think that in the majority of situations like this, and especially on such highly educational channels such as yours, the rude idiots/haters eventually lose interest when they don't get the attention they're seeking, or failing to bait the more level headed crowd here who adore you and your content.❤

Yup, gotta say that untill yesterday I was sure that by the 2023 everone born before Internet had already evolved a solid immunity and a personal cure against toxic oponents, trolls, bots and the like both online an irl. But unfortunately it becomes evident that the offenders have been imroving their technics as well and they still hold the skill to poison lives of good people. I am pretty optimistic here and I am quite confident that we will overcome these problems as well anyway.

It guts me that you have to deal with so much toxicity. Tribalism and gatekeeping never seems to be a good thing in any group, and stifles creativity and enjoyment. That said, you've succeeded in creating a welcoming, cozy community of excellent music minded people, and have provided priceless inspiration, and continuing education for thousands of us. I can't believe I hadn't joined your discord yet! That is an example of a safe little oasis in the often hostile desert of the internet.

Hello Alice Yalcin, I'm Brazilian and I watch almost all of your videos and I'm here to say that they are very good. Don't pay attention to Haters and move on, because these types of people who spout hate on social media are people who produce nothing in life and then envy those who are successful, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, every video you post I will be there for to attend. Keep in mind that for every 1% of hate you get here, there are 99% more people who like your work, so what do I mean by that? focus on the 99% who seek to be better every day and forget the 1% who don't want to be anything in their lives and attack other people. A hug from Brazil. Robson.

I remember an "Ah, ha!" moment I had many, many years ago. I had been in the U.S. "rave scene" since the mid-90's and watched/lamented as the rave experience changed into a club experience (mostly a result of the "RAVE Act" in the early 2000's). As a DJ, I evolved along with the scene but of course it was "Never the Same" (tm). Around this time we also saw the rise of jetset DJs who relied on formulaic hyper-anthems and just played banger after banger with no artistry, subtlety, or nuance (like Tiesto). In hindsight, perhaps we were simply jealous haters... Then 'American' dubstep took over the underground scene in the U.S. and it all fell apart for me. I still loved House/Techno and sought it out where I could, but I'd pretty much grown disillusioned with the scene/community. And I was fucking VOCAL about it. I was essentially pissed off that it wasn't still 1996 and nothing could measure up to the "Golden Era of Dance." (Low-key I know I'm right, because Aurora agrees with me, re: statements about dance music from the 90s being the best). Several years later, I think 2008, while cruising in Golden Gate Park, we ran into some younger kids listening to trance on a small radio, so we stopped to check them out and say hello and ask them about what they were listening to. In the course of the discussion, one of the kids... maybe he was 16 or 17, excitedly mentioned that he was going to a his first "rave" later that week. My partner pretty much automatically said what I was also thinking, "Oh, there's not really any rave's anymore..." and as she went on to explain, I could see this kid having his excitement crushed by an older person that he had immediately started looking up to as a "rave elder" in the moments we had been interacting. It broke my heart... not just for the kid, but also realizing just how negative I'd become about all of it. I still have opinions and I'll share them, but only in places where that sort of discussion is directly requested in a respectful discourse and even then I try to be mindful that my opinions are based on my tastes and experiences rather than objective measures about what is good. Anyhoo, sorry for the personal essay... some of the thing you said just reminded me of all that. It sucks that you have to put up with BS from hateful people simply for existing. I think you're fantastic.

I got into rave and loved the rave community as it was all about peace, love and understanding. It wasn't perfect because people are people however generally it was a great community. So it's a shame to hear about this kind of toxicity.

It benefits people in no way to be toxic to others or to be elitists on music or genres or anything. If you like analog or digital better, that's fine. If you like this DAW or that DAW better, that's fine. None of these things really matter at the end of the day. If you love what you do and create stuff you are proud of, that's what matters. I do not understand people who want to gatekeep and control genres. The best way for genres to push forward is hybridizing and blending with others. It's why hyperpop is in such a good place right now. I personally don't produce techno music, nor do I even use Ableton, but I check this channel all the time, because I like learning ideas from people outside the genres I do, so that I know that I'm not missing out on things if I just stayed only in one genre. We all grow by opening our minds and listening to others. There's a saying, there's a reason we were given two ears and one mouth. Yet, some people are all mouth.

Read the book " The Dark Net " by Jamie Bartlett. It reveals how toxicity and trolling is basic internet culture since 90s. It is just how it is. It is like walking in a jungle and facing a tiger or python. It is just the nature of the ecosystem. You are amazing. You are a gem in this community. Just keep on.

To be honest, as a music producer and music lover, you are the person that I bumped on in KZfaq randomly, and even myself being from post-soviet country that is with extremely conservative looks, specially on non traditional genders, I felt that for the first time in a life, after watching your videos, that I even didn’t pay attention of how you look like, but more of what feeling you are trying to translate to your listener. In addition to that, you are super positive and educational person that I’ve really gained big respect. Thank you 🙏🏻🫶🏽

This toxicity is all over the Internet; it doesn't matter if it is Music, Sport, Politics, or conspiracy; the free (and anonymous) right to make a statement gives a free hand to disrespectful behavior, sadly! That would change if comments were a premium privilege, on YT and all other platforms! Thank you for your time and afford to bring us such a great Channel!

Hi Alice, I’m from Italy and don’t speak English very well probably I understand half of what you say in your videos but I Can assure you that if I lived in the same city as you and I had met you I would certainly have wanted to be one of your best friends, you are a very nice and sweet person, unfortunately in this world there are a lot of bad people who only know how to hate and are full of envy, but you leave them alone, always go straight on your own path, you are a great person and many like me love you even if we don't know you directly, honestly listen to my advice, do whatever you feel like doing and don't let yourself be negatively influenced by others judgments of stupid people. don't hold back from doing something because you're afraid of someone's judgement, no one can afford to judge and whoever allows themselves to do so doesn't deserve your attention. ps. I'd like to understand what you explain in your videos but I'm terrible at the English language😅 by the way I like to Watch you and listening thank you and keep strong👍🏻

People spewing hate and negativity are merely reflecting their own insecurities. I will never understand the need to bring other people down. The world would be a better place if we could just accept each other the way we are. This channel is about music production so any type of comments straying too far away from this topic are just wasted energy. Thank you so much for providing so much value, for free! Having haters just proves you're on the right track. They should just be ignored, because they will unequivocally shrivel into non existence, just as their pointless hate-driven lives.
