Emergency Broadcast Warnings are the single most terrifying things you can experience. For your tv to black out into complete silence, then have a creepy robot voice with sirens in the backgrounds telling you about impending doom is just terrifying.

@@thelemon5069 No worries. If you tried to escape impending doom, the roads would become so crowded you would hear nothing but gun shots, you would observe sights of burning cars at every major intersection, you'd see screaming people everywhere, and the sounds of honking horns could be heard blowing from every block.... It might just be better to stay home, escape would be worse.

It's not terrifying at all if you understand emergency action plans. And if you're in the death zone, make your final calls, repent if you think it'll help and think about the good times. Panicking and freaking out ain't gonna save you or make the process any easier. It's gonna make your final minutes/hours the worst experience ever. Make the most of it.

Vsuace had a video titled "If". In this video there was a simulated EAS Nuclear attack warning that interrupted his video like a tv broadcast. It was eery and bleak as fuck. 15-20 minutes. That's about how long it takes for ICBM to get here from the opposite side of our planet. ICBMs BOOK IT.

😐 I guess it was inevitable, this global ...unrest. I'm not sure whether it's the case that societies and cultures go through cycles, or whether its simply a case of the butterfly effect. But here we are again, eh? Pandemics, Inflationary recessions, A great war looming on the horizon and some snazzy swing music. And All of this during a time when a breakthrough technology is set to completely alter society and how we interact with the world. What i find unsettling is how ripe this environment is for a "great cause" or some nationwide movement set into motion by a charismatic leader. There are too many insane variables in play and at this point, I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen next. That's also unusual. I'm not losing sleep just yet, but I suppose time will tell. Best not to dwell on it. Best to dwell on the KSP 2 release on the 24th. 😁

Guys, always remember that is easy to look for danger and fall into a cycle of hopelessness (depression is a danger reaction), we are evolutionary wired to concentrate on danger and we aren't evolutionary equipped to deal with the immense input we have today. No matter if it's bad news or just a bad day at work. That way you might completely miss the good sides of life. Practice grattitude and acknowledge the good things, even if it was just a small gesture from a stranger today, a good video, good food, your family, what you accomplished.. Do some breath work to calm the nervous system and get into the parasympathetic state. Focus on feeling safe. That way you feel actually calm and can experience happiness. It's quite a lifehack honestly.

Do you have a roof over your head? Check. Do you have running water? Check. That already puts you ahead of maybe 30 % of the world’s population. Do you have access to food all year? Check. Do you have a working toilet? Check. Do you have electricity? Check. Ahead of 50 % now. This is what „check your privilege“ actually means, despite what a-holes on the web use it for. My main concern with the derailment issue in the US is the train tracks. I’ve only ever heard of train derailments happening because tracks weren’t properly maintained, bolts were loose in the train cars or locomotives or a truck ran into a train. If many train derailments are happening it’s either really poor manufacturing and engineering of the trains or the tracks aren’t being maintained to the standard they should be. Where I live in Canada, I will not hear a train for 2-3 weeks after a blizzard or deep freeze because the deicers have to come in first. If this isn’t happening in the US as frequently as it should be then I am very concerned for everyone in the states.

Doomsday prepper with the little bunkers will have it worse than you in the end, trust me. Imagine the pure shock and horror when their bunkers get cracked like cans of sardines by excavation equipment so it can be looted by the rich or the desperate. They think that once they seal their doors that that will be the end of it.. and in a way, it is... for them. But the world doesn't stop moving outside, and when people starving and thirsty are ripping up floorboards in houses to find peas, they will inevitably find the bunkers too and get to work on opening it. It's futile to run from this stuff. The two options humans have are: Keep it going and try to fix it, or just end everything.

Honestly, what makes me very angry about all this is where my life currently is. I have too many things to regret, and has a lot to do with how society was leading up to this point. I have had sex, so we can get that joke away from this conversation immediately. I don't have a girlfriend or a wife, I haven't been able to bring kids into this world, I'm on the break of publishing one of my first books, and I wanted to be able to own my own house. I was hoping this world would stop being stupid just long enough to allow the people that are on the surface of it to fulfill their lives. It might be a good thing I didn't bring kids into this world if this goes completely south, but I don't like the idea that I don't have much of a chance of surviving any of this shit. And it's not an explosion, it's radiation, and if it's not radiation, it's dehydration and/or starvation. The worst part of all of this is that the cocksuckers who actively perform the destruction will be perfectly safe underground and their bomb shelter completely stocked up with food purchased with money that the rest of the people could have used for themselves. This is why I hate politicians, world leaders in general including dictators, and any stupid motherfucker that gives praise to any government entity without even thinking about it.

Let me drop some things that may be helpful as someone who used to have crippling anxiety over all these types of things. 1) governments and scientists across the world have been working on dealing with large asteroids for a very long time and have strategies non of us have ever heard of. Also astroids that would have global impact are not really a threat to us. Read an article by Robert walker called "no need to be scared of astroids" 2) the more time passes and the more the pvc spreads the less concentrated and damaging it is. "The solution to pollution is dilution" 3) I do not care what anyone says. I don't believe for a second that we haven't developed a way of dealing with nukes. We were talking about space lasers to take out nukes when Reagan was president. There would be 0 good reason for our government to reveal to us or anyone else that we have an anti nuke system. Its not strategic. It goes against agreements between countries to rely on MAD. Trump also once hinted at a system being in place but i havent been able to find the video. Furthermore the idea of "nuclear winter" has been debunked. Also if you aren't in the immediate range of the blast you would have to shelter AT MOST for about a month before radiation levels are safe. However keep in mind that each country only has so many nukes and that which they have they are unlikely to use all at once. They would first attack the most strategic locations which would likely be millitary/government. Beyond those targets there is really no benefit to attacking civilians as it would be a complete waste of a very difficult to build and extremely expensive nuke. DO NOT LET THE MEDIA USE YOUR FEAR! Do not forget that they have a vested interest in scaring you because they profit off of it.

Just watched this and it was so wholesome in the saddest of ways??? Like, yeah we are probably living our last days. So why I keep worrying myself about things I can't control? I had an amazing childhood, a lot of bad stuff could've happened to me in my teenage years but it didn't, I studied what I love, have an amazing boyfriend that I love dearly and a chubby cat that makes me giggle with its shenanigans, I have yummy food that I can cook to bring a smile to my loved ones and a cool computer to play all the videogames I like. Yeah, like most of you I've had also a lot of awful and traumatizing events and some days I wished (and tried) to end it all, but the truth is I'm loved and I love a lot too. This video brought me comfort and realize that... just as Muta said, each day is a blessing. Saying suicidal jokes is funny but it's taking its toll, at least in me. Muta, if you really wanna not sleep, watch the movie “The Day After” from 1983. it’s a film that covers the lives of people living in/around Kansas City during the height of the 80s nuclear scare and how they react to watching the Minute Man missiles launch from their backyards. It’s hyper realistic (some of the effects are dated but didn’t age poorly) and genuinely terrifying in how it conveys the tension of the Cold War heating up and the absolute dread and feeling of helplessness that the characters feel knowing the missiles are on the way

It may not be as dark but I can relate to the setting more and really appreciate how they managed the buildup, telling the story of rising tension through newspapers, background radio and news broadcasts, and passing word that most people put off until they couldn’t anymore. Threads is definitely up there though, and by far the more gritty and terrifying of the two

However, if everything _isn't_ about to end, it _does_ matter. So out of the two possibilities, only one of them features a setting where what I do/don't do matters, so I'll just stick to that until I can't anymore.

Thing to note about the train derailment. That cloud in the air isn't actually vinyl chloride. "As vinyl chloride burns, the gas can form byproducts including hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and traces of phosgene." vinyl chloride has a quite a short half life and breaks down in the air in just a couple of days. It can last several years in the water and ground though. "One big concern is the possibility of contamination by dioxin, a highly toxic, carcinogenic, and persistent compound released when polyvinyl chloride burns. Polyvinyl chloride, or PVC, was present in four of the cars originally on fire. PVC is widely used in plumbing and pipes, flooring, and health care settings. “Dioxins are persistent pollutants, highly toxic, and on the international dirty dozen list,” said environmental sociologist Rebecca Altman, author of the forthcoming “The Song of Styrene: An Intimate History of Plastics.” The EPA has not yet tested for dioxin contamination, but a similar train derailment in Germany in 2000 found high levels of dioxin in the area where fires had burned polyvinyl chloride." quotes are from statnews

I live just outside the initial evacuation zone in PA and it was kinda like the cat meme. The Whatcha Doin over there. Very cool to know that I've been breathing caustic materials for the past two weeks.

A byproduct of burning vinyl chloride is hydrochloric acid. Most of the dead animals that have been reported are fish, frogs and the like which all are very sensitive to changes in pH. This is very different to being a danger for mammals and humans, although it's not nice of course. Still in a river the rate of dilution of acid is quite high, so I suspect the ecosystem to recover in a timely manner.
