I've also been producing music for about 10 years. My biggest problem is social media. I spend literally 0 minutes on them every day and if I have to create any content for tiktok or something similar, I literally don't want to live xD I released a few tik toks, I even managed to reach a million twice, but I still don't feel good about it and I don't know how to change it.

Hello and thank you very much for your inspiring videos. Each time I learn a lot. I m doing music with Atari Cubase and hardware synths since 35 years, but with many long interuptions. Guitar player in a band even longer. Funny thing is that you sometimes take decissions that I wouldnt do. But at the end you persuade me that it sounds good. Also when you do comparisons between beginner, average and pro I find my self in all 3 categories 😆. Also when I see your short mid and long I feel that what is reachable is a different mix. So that a well known DJ plays my music is very close. On the other hand a song on the label seems very far. Unfortunately when I m at home I dont have the time to make music even if I have some good hardware synths. On the other hand when I m on busynesstrip, and that happends often I have time to make music so I ve choosen cubasis on an iPad pro. I m killing the DSP but I have all with me in a small format. I pretty aware about my worst issue, mixing with iPad speakers even if I have adapter and good headphones with me. But often I just want to make music. I m sorry to post now with this acc but I ve just started my chanel with my own music and name to separate ma hobby from my business. Also I dont like post on social media much as my plan is to go pro when I almost retire. Please keep up the good work! 👍👍👍 Best wishes! Oh by the way, you asked in a video about german singing in a post punk way. If I know the lyrics and your precise expectation I ll try that. Cheers!

I can personally vouch for Alice's courses. I'm working my way through two of her courses now and they have transformed my sound. My originals are sounding more professional and my ears are being better tuned every day. And YES, I wish I had delved into Vital or Serum years ago, instead of spending countless $$$ on sample libraries.

You have to go to high impedance headphones. They enable much more precise nuances. DT990 Pro for example. Low impedance is for DJing only.

Hey Alice, I follow your channel for quite some time now and am really thankful for the great content you produce! I got a little question regarding the headphones mentioned in this video. I am looking to get myself some Dt770 Pro but I am not sure if it is a good idea to get the 250 or the 80 ohm headphones. I am using a scarlett 2i2 4rh gen and I am not sure if the 250 ohm would make sense with that? Would love to hear your opinion on the matter! Cheers and keep up the great work!

I don't have a 2i2 4th generation so I can't really test. It may work but it could be on the quiter side. That being said the difference between 80 and 250 really really small. 80 is slightly stronger on the low end and 250 is ever slightly brighter. But difference is really small that it shouldn't matter.

I know that you are 100% right about this Alice. But I am now 43 and had moderate success from age 25-30, I was supported by pretty much all the top DJs and i got to do lots of gigs abroad. My songs were uploaded to KZfaq by fans, I almost didn't have to do anything and it snowballed. I am tempted to get back out there, but the idea of social media scares me a lot 😅 I only hope my music speaks for itself, and the fans speak fornthe music - otherwise I don't deserve a place anymore.

Don't be scared. People really exaggrate social media often times. Itis just about showcasing your art work and artistary. If you want to spice up, then you can show yourself and your personality as well. Take it by small pieces and see where it goes.

It really depends as I have way too many different lights depending on angle. But the main ones that I am using during the Ableton screens are 2 Elgato Key Lights and 2 Nanlite pavotubes. Then I have some other fill lights but they can be anything.

I don’t know, for certain genres of music: instrumental/orchestral you can’t get virtual instruments to sound good for free, I’m ok with no buying any fx or synth but you can’t make a good sounding rock/symphonic tune without proper sampling libraries

Take a full month to decide to become a producer? I already needed three month to decide to become a hobbyist. However, I finished my first production. I could not control it. It took over the control. I didn't end up with euphoric trance, but with medieval film music. I like it. Must have seen Robin Hood to often in my childhood.

What I really meant was deciding on commiting to producing music. Some people don't like it and move to an another hobby. A month should be at least enough to give them an idea if they like 😊

People say that room sound treatment is as important as buying studio monitors. With no treatment your monitors can actually deceive you and make it worse. Do you have any advice on a minimal room treatment (bass traps, reflection panels etc)?

✔ Rule of thumb: Spend at least half of the amount that you are spending on your monitors; on your room treatment. Otherwise, monitors are useless as room modes will overcome the little improvement you had with monitors. (Example: maybe you speaker is 3 db flatter etween X frequency but room modes can be as crazy as 18-24 db). Not even adding other acoustic imperfections and problems your room may have. For the room, treat your first reflection points first. Use panels over foams. You can build them yourself if you want to save money, they are pretty easy to build.

No. There are plenty of successful artists who are offline. Calibre is a great example. If you just focus on making the best music you can, you can send it to djs and labels. If the music is professional quality, that is ultimately what matters the most.

This video is more about becoming a successful 'content creator' in the music industry rather than becoming a successful music producer. The video in summary tells you to get music production skills and then you use your skills to make content. If you want to be a successful producer you will have to network. You have to be in the scene, you have to go to places, talk to people, etc. The video tells you to do stuff like collabing, getting a label to release your tracks, getting DJs to play your tracks, and etc, but how do you actually do those things? Like, how do you find good people to collab with? How do you find a good label and get them to actually strike a deal with you? The answer to all of those is: networking. Content creation is good if you want to be independent and you are fine being known more for your content than your music, but if you want to be widely known for your music you gotta network, which doesn't necessarily involve social media but it can also a tool that can be used.
