Kenny, you are living what I call “The correct retirement Dream.” Its all about work because thats all we ever known. But the dream is fulfilled when the work is doing what you love on your timeline. Thats it! Well alright, if you know, you know. Love ya Kevin

I retired in 2020 and am living the same dream as Kenny, but with a smaller budget and a LOT less talent haha We poured the slab for my dream shop last Thursday and the steel building arrives next Monday. By budget, I mean that I don't have a single CAR that costs as much as that motor and I am doing the electrical, plumbing, framing, drywall, etc for the interior buildout.

You shouldn't have to apologize for anything. Even if you bought all your things with "NASCAR" Money it's still something YOU worked for. You are one of the most humble people I know you deserve everything you have because of all the sacrifices you gave over your career how many days you were on the road without your family because you were out there putting in the work so that your wife and kids could have a good life. You probably have the money to buy the great big semi with the biggest stacker trailer money can buy but you don't. I'm soo happy you get to do something you love because of the hard work and dedication you have people need to watch some of your older videos or watch the one you did with Stapleton and talked about only being able to afford one meal a day while you and your brothers worked on your car's keep being you Wallace because a world with you in it is something special good luck on your season sir.....

Grats on the 50K Kenny! I think I found you when you had like 10 or 12K and watched it grow pretty well. Honestly, I was enjoying being in what I thought was a small crowd, and I said at the time, well Kenny won't be lonely for long once people get to seeing what you're putting out here for us because you and Rusty, like a lot of other racers, are people just like like everyone else. I don't think I ever thought you didn't work on your stuff, you are just that kind of person that absolutely would work on his own car. And I'm also happy that "All that NASCAR money" has allowed you to do what makes you happy. that was kind of the point of doing it all in the first place, and I congratulate you for all your success. Truly mean it. So many people are consumed with envy, greed and as my 101 year old Grandma, who still lives at home on her own would say, "That's just ugliness" and to those people she would say "Just go on and git now" cause she wouldn't ever waste time on such foolishness. And then she would go pray for them because they need some fixin. Best of luck!!

I grew up watching Rusty race ASA in Cincinnati, Winchester, and some other places. In fact, my Son raced 1/10th scale r/c and we always had either a Rusty Wallace (2,27) bodied car and a Darrell Waltrip (Tide car) body. I didn't think much of your NASCAR commentary but oh well. I'm glad to see you carrying on the racing tradition. There was a time when I complained of your "high dollar" operation, but in the end you earned it. Am I jealous of your shop? Hell yeah. I'm glad you have put out some of the prices involved in racing and explained some of the technical side. Thanks for the video and I hope you have a good year. Kenny was so nice, I was 13 years old and I met him in the pits at a dirt track in Antioch ,Ca. He was yakkin it up with a bunch of guys and I wedged my way into the circle of men and he stopped talkin , looked down at me and said “HEY LIL BUDDY HOWS IT GOIN!” We took a picture and he signed my dirty ass (Shaw racing chassis) t-shirt. … I never washed it and had that shirt hanging on my bedroom wall until I became an adult. - I’ll never forget the way he stopped talking to 15+ grown men about that nights race just to make sure I was noticed… thanks for the great memory Kenny- even though it was only 3 minutes of your time. That moment has stayed with me for the past 18 years

Congrats on 50K!! Engines aint cheap. Back in the early 90's my "stock" engine I had built Buy Total Seal East ran me @ $6k which is a drop in the bucket compared to what you and other spend. After my wallet seized up and I stopped racing due to crazy costs involved and no increase in winnings, I sold all my stuff. And ended up spending a few seasons working on a friends Pro Stock that was mainly raced at Lee Speedway here in NH. This was @ 97-98 and he rented Rousch engines. They were sealed engines and I dont recall what he paid for rent , but he did tell me that if either of the seals ever got broken he would have to write a check to Rousch for $55k. Rousch really didn't want anyone looking inside those engines. My dad used to tell me that his cousin Olen Runion in Decatur Ill used to build engines for your buddy Schrader early in his career.

Really liked this video. But what I don’t like is how people think just because he was a Nascar driver, that he didn’t work his tail off to get there? Most of these guys that raced nascar when Kenny raced were not the owners family? These guys worked countless hours with sub par equipment most of their life. Look how humble Kenny is when he talks about the local driver….. He was that guy. Thanks for you who you are and for making these type videos Kenny! I don’t like how negative people can be when the local driver actually makes it in the big show. How about being happy for somebody instead of jealous! Love it Kenny!

Kenny I have to THANK YOU and DALE EARNHARDT JR for SAVING MY LIFE. I was laying on my couch with covid getting sicker by the day. I had the tv on and listened to one of you podcast that you posted. You talked about how Dale ask about you and your wife. You told him that your wife was laying in bed and had covid. He told you to get her up and you did. That inspired me to get up, and sit and sleep straight up in my chair. At that time it took all I had to get that far. It took several days but each day I felt a little better. My wife had contracted covid at the same time and chose to go to the hospital. She passed March 5th of last year. I so wish she would have stayed home. From the time she was admitted she stayed in bed flipped from her back to her stomach. I believe she would still be with me if stayed home and took your advice. I wanted to let you know how thankful I am. If you could some day thank Junior for me also.

Finally somebody gave an educated and honest answer of what a SBC cost. Heads, valvetrain, and induction can easily swing $5000 to $25,000. Forged crank with balance can be $1000 from the Peoples republic or a $10,000 piece of billet steel jewelry from Callies or Winberg.

It seems some things never change with engines (noticed your new mill has a BIG wet sump oil pan & you're running 50 weight oil. When Jeff Gordon became big, I went Nascar crazy because he was the same age and my dad rutted for E. I couldn't get a job in a garage, so I became a cab driver when I was 24. Since then I've been driving. 10 years ago I got my CDL. I know that I'm never going to be Dale Earnhardt, but that's who we all want to be. My daughter paid for your brothers racing experience for my birthday. My dad was dying for cancer and bought a dodge rumble bee then took the engine to a engine shop and it was supposed to be around 800hp. I drove his truck afterwards (when he died) and I drove your brothers 400 and sum hp on a 1/4 mile oval and dam that is amazing . But the radio sucks. Freaking awesome. I knew I'd start figuring it out after every lap so I need to go back. That's awesome what your brother is doing!

I use the work on a late model team in altamaha nc ( ace speedway) I believe Justin labonte was running mini stock at the time... anyway I guess the point I'm trying to make is people that see a nice garage, trailer and a couple race cars , think your rich... truth is their actually broke, living payday to payday , working late nights, just to hopefully lay down a good qualifying lap... or that second job you had to pick up just to replace the front clip you lost last weekend with 2 laps to go... the friends and volunteers that actually make it even remotely possible for you to even to do it in the first place... I won't even mention the wife and kids that never get to see you.... I have much respect for anyone who does this and still does. Thanks 4 sharing man, brought back a few memories.

Back in the 80s I was the crew chief on a supermodified team. We raced at San Jose speedway California. We race under NASCAR. These cars were a sprint car only difference was the bottom rails were 2"x 4" tubing from the firewall back. We ran a wing. I built the chassis and the wings and the owner/ drive built the engines in his automotive machine shop. 377 cubes Max aluminum heads Algon injection putting out around 800 HP. We were a top three team. Because we built everything ourselves it cost us $22K per year sometime a little more or less. We would win around $11K per year. We raced against guys that spent $750K. Howard Kading had two cars his and his son Bret's and one year spent $1M and we were betting them. Now that is what I call fun. I am 74 and have been a metal worker as a welder/ Machinist / and Sheetmetal. I was a welding instructor also. I made parts that are on the Voyager satellite and other air craft. So being a person that has worked starting at 9 in my fathers service station I have the upmost respect for racers like you. So keep up these great videos and God bless you.

Love Jegs and love Kenny's comments. Just bought a new high torque starter and parts for the 57 Chevy - delivered in 2 days- awesome.

You seem to be the same cat I met decades ago. I’m not a racer, always wanted to try but approaching 50, folks say I’m too old, and personally I don’t even know even where to start, I live in Chicago and the racing scene is tough enough. Can ya point me in a direction. Anyhow I really enjoy your videos, your shop and your attitude! Gracious, kind and proud as you should be. Looking forward to more of your videos!
