I started doing this a few weeks ago. Was really focusing on the 10 o clock release which is best achieved by this practice. At first I lost distance. But I can now throw mids 300 feet and super straight easily. So anyone reading this, it does work. Might just take a minute to fully implement. Also my nose angle was bad but have started correcting it

Soo good advice,now i see reachback and powerpocket as a two part process ,the reachback is not the long movement of the arm to the "hit/release point" it is just the starting point to get to the area where the bodys rotation "takes over" and accelerates the disc, aka powerpocket, way more than a forced arm can ever do,totally new insight about driving the disc,thanks!

Hey Nick, I like what you said about putting the disc more in the deep pocket minimizing elbow drop, so I plan to try that out tomorrow. There's a lot of good form elements that automatically fix other issues that may not seem related. And this might be one of them.

My takeaway here is that the elbow is in front of the shoulder and not straight in front on the shoulder! I've seen several instruction videos explaining that the upper arm should be at 90 degrees. Probably because some videos are made by people that aren't necessarily that experienced themselves.

Watched the Robbie C video earlier on the 10 o' clock position before I found this video. It seems the position that you are referring to in this video would force your hand to come out at 10 o' clock. Does that sound accurate?

So is getting your disc into the pocket a more conscious, muscular movement? And then at that point, just letting the rotation take over to sling shot the disc out? Or is all of the motion caused naturally by the hip’s/body’s rotation? I’ve tried to get my disc into the position shown in the video, but it just results in me arming my disc and over-extending my pec muscles. Any help on this?
@ArmoryDiscGolf
@ArmoryDiscGolf 3 ай бұрын
As with most everything form related, there will be nuance with individuals because we're all a little different. I use this to teach people what the correct position feels like- at first it's a conscious movement to the power pocket and then more or less automatic as the disc snaps out of it. Some people really click with this method, other people click with the idea of keeping your upper arm away from your body at a 90+° angle the whole throw. But eventually whichever method you go with, you'll build muscle memory and it will all move to a subconscious motion as you focus instead on angle, release line, etc

So do you let go of the disc? Do you have a softish grip and it rips out? Do you release your thumb to have it release? I open my hand to release and just heard I need to keep my hand closed. But that just doesn’t make sense.
@ArmoryDiscGolf
@ArmoryDiscGolf 2 ай бұрын
I agree that it doesn't make sense haha, but yes you should be keeping your hand closed. I try to keep a very firm grip, particularly with my thumb and index finger (knuckle), and the disc just comes out at the hit point. You might shank a few as you transition to that grip, but you'll notice an immediate increase in power transfer to the disc

Like is needed in many of the DIY coaching vids on here, how about suggesting proper strength/conditioning of the shoulder before suggesting over-extending a forceful movement repeatedly. The novice people that the KZfaq algorithm is hooking you up with may not realize just how delicate the biometric machine(especially rotator cuff) is when isolating a force without managing the movement holistically in the full body’s machine. Cheers and thanks for your consideration.

With all due respect, I'm going to let adults be adults and decide for themselves if they're ready to throw a disc. This is teaching proper form and should lead to less injuries than improper form. I see what you're saying but it's not feasible for me to give disclaimers/warmup routines/workouts/etc in each video, but I DO plan on doing a video about disc golf training/workouts at some point in the future. I think it's a huge area of the game that is largely overlooked

This doesnt makse sense, how do people not hit the "deep" power pocket as you call it? Its literally part of the natural follow through, do they just stop their arm at the 90 degree point and swing their elbow into hyperextension? This is just another convoluted pointless lesson that nobody needed. A better lesson would be "watch Paul McBeth and do what he does." Lol

you guys really need to stop using buzz words for clicks, snap is just the your fingers snapping, you dont get more snap because your pocket is deeper, it almost sounds like this was written by GPT, i think you have valid points but your language is ... i dont even know.
@ArmoryDiscGolf
@ArmoryDiscGolf 8 ай бұрын
This is incorrect. Snap is NOT just the sound, though many people do get a snapping sound as the disc releases. Snap is the rapid acceleration of the disc as it exits the hand, and getting to a deep pocket does create this. (Also often creates the "snap" sound) Originally I had an entire section describing the physics of all this, but cut it because the point of this video isn't to dissect what the physics of snap is, but rather to help people achieve it. Trying to keep these brief so I can't cover everything in one video
