With all the tacking he may not be the greatest welder in the world but his grinding skills are great and creative , a lot of guys can’t even do a straight cut properly - sure it may not be less stable if he’s welding that way but most of it looks like decorative parts that are not going to be used in places where there’s really a need for a lot of durability ☺️good work 👍

I was saying the same thing your called a welder not a Tacker and if you are going to show complex welds show how to set up your equipment so people get the right idea. I've been welding for 30 years and the setup is one of the most important part so your weld is a true weld and not subpar tacks.

It’s irritating isn’t it…all the metalworking “hacks” on KZfaq and they always seem to edit in tack tack tack with their mig then show the finished product to look like a tig bead then they grind it down flush…🤦‍♂️. I’m like, ok there went all the strength of your “weld” buddy (or string of tacks to be more accurate).

They are weak. (I have a degree in fabrication and gave been welding for 20+ years). The beginning and end of a weld is the weakest part. So the multiple tack method= lots and lots of beginnings and ends. This method will fail any actual inspection in any industry

Regardless of start and finish welding spots that u already said that are weak, is it weak in general because i grind it to make it as flat as possible?... I use a stick welder,not mig or Tig. A question for experienced welders: Welding technique aside (bead versus continuous) - how would you join 2 tubes so that they would have a rounded corner? There are a number of videos on YT using these grind and weld techniques and a lot of welders say they they are not structurally sound. How would you do things like rounded corners (referencing a video is fine also)

@None Yabusiness they are doing that because either they don't know what the _~bleeping bleepety bleep~_ they are doing or they don't know how to set their welder to weld that thickness of metal. Or, I suppose, it could just be a junk welder that can't weld decently at any setting.
@MaryAnnNytowl
@MaryAnnNytowl Жыл бұрын
Robert, it's one of three reasons. One, and the kindest possibility, is that they just have a junk welder that can't weld decently at any setting. Two, that the welder isn't set properly for that thickness of metal. Or three, they just don't _know_ how to weld properly. A weld needs a solid bead in order to be even remotely strong. This spotweld stuff is the farthest thing from a good weld and still be done with a welder. And then grinding all of that right back off? They might as well have caulked the meeting surfaces. It's embarrassing to watch, frankly, as someone who was a welder for 2½+ decades.

I've seen this a while lot lately, with stick and mig, and it makes no sense to me at all. Why do you put multiple spot welds instead of running a single bead??
@wowdogeful
@wowdogeful Жыл бұрын
The only reason to do it like this is if you lack the skills to weld a proper seam from beginning to end. The beginning and end points are the weakest part of a welded seam, so placing multiple spot welds next to each other will make the weld considerably weaker than a continuous seam. This is especially true if you grind the welds completely flat like they did.
