“How do two brothers get into the nail care business?” This is the single most common question people ask us. There’s a long and rocky version but we’ll give you the short one. We have our fearless and unconventional mother, Young Salo, to thank. With a single-minded entrepreneurial spirit, she decided to start her own business at the age of 49. She had a passion for the nail industry and we did everything in our power to support her. In the end, this is a family business.
Greg, the older brother, became a licensed nail technician after switching gears from fire fighter’s training. He is energy personified and has a true passion for developing the best professional nail care products and education. Habib is the younger brother. He jumped in a few years later; taking a detour from medical school and a life in music. He brings his own creative mind for business, marketing and strategy. Unexpectedly, we are a perfect team.

You made a great point about posting the simple nails not the six hour Instagram sets or clients will expect that and want that. Good information right here!

Those simple nails will definitely attract a certain following. Classic designs are timeless and some people prefer them only.

The necessities for nail techs (photo related): a nice fabric or fur rug, something to hold your phone to record/take pics (I use a monitor arm cuz an Arkon mount is just too out of my budget, it WORKS lmfao), and a light source. It doesn't have to be expensive, just has to work 💪🏻

Looking back at those old pics will show you how far you've come. My tech showed me some of her very first sets and I couldn't see anything wrong with them. Immediately she said she wasn't happy with the shaping. She's gotten better over time. There's a learning curve with most things and there's nothing wrong that.

I was being detailed about the products I used then I wondered if that was too much information on Instagram because nobody else was doing it. THANK YOU for this video!! Not only does it help the client but it helps me remember what I used! 😉 going back to it!

Same. I put in every detail of the set so that I could recreate them at another time if I wanted to ☺️ it got tough over time but I kept doing it & it has helped see my progress too

i want to say thank you for this wisdom and knowledge!!! it just made a year learning off of your tube . and you guys are the very first i saw and learned from . i always watch your videos. but out of all i enjoy and what i learn from you . this has got to be the number beat advice and knowledge you just gave us . i just started a IG and i’m all you said lol. but now i know how to make it better . i will get them both . now to figure what color fluffy rug the next step lol 😂. thank you again 💜🔥🙌🏾🙌🏾

It's a personal preference as to what you keep in your portfolio, but keeping them is actually a good way to show your clients and potential new clients that you are always learning and striving to get better!

I post pictures/videos of my sets I use to describe them I need to get back to that. I was finding it hard to tag companies in n my post so people knew what I used.

What sucks is I noticed the overly edited photos seem to be the ones that get more attention even by bigger companies, I don’t try to change anything about my sets but it can be a real bummer thinking no one likes yours because they aren’t super edited

It seems like everybody and they mama wanna be a nail tech now lol I guess it’s something in the air but everyone went from cosmetology to nail tech… it’s gonna suck trying to compete with all these people. 👀

Just compete with yourself. I’m a cosmetologist working as a nail technician for the past 7 years. I’m just now beginning to practice and perfect acrylic application, nail designs, etc. Until more recently, I just did regular mani pedi, gel, and dip powder (you can do a lot with dip). Don’t rush. Take your time to learn and progress, improve your skills. Learning from other people is great, but don’t compare yourself. You only need to compete with yourself. You’ll get there and you’ll have a clientele who loves you and the way you do their nails
