And it’s not only his experience working as a cleaner. Also the fact that he has been studying up on Kaiju along with his normal training. Even this episode the vice captain complimented the effectiveness of his studies.

@@AnimeCritical Just guessing, could be his years of hands-on experience enables him to understand, absorb, and retain the lessons better. It also probably allows him to make better educated guess than others. Maybe his extra late night studies helped.

Normally, in shows like this, the MC always passes the entrance exam but I could see how Kafka could fail and the story will keep going. They established he could sense other kaiju, so he could become a sort of vigilante, taking down other kaiju before they cause too much damage while avoiding the Defense Force. Although that would be a rather different story.

Hello from Hiroshima! The 30 year old thing is tied to the Japan society right now. They have their own "boomer" situation going on, where the older generation is staying in their jobs longer. And middle aged Japanese are finding themselves in relatively low positions and struggling in social mobility. In the manga, there are characters that discuss the older generation needing to pass the torch to the younger generation. Kafka is a bit of the middle ground between the innovative younger generation, and the older experienced generation.

Oh, that was definitely part of it. She mentioned him just before unleashing her full strength. It's been made clear since Episode 1 that she remembered him and had some... thoughts on it.

5:21 Most if not all of their weapons are made using kaiju in some way. From what I can tell, that piece of kaiju generates the ammo they use, which is why they can fire so many shots. They switch them out for different ammo types. I suppose it is possible they can be used up as well. Like the suits, it is tied to their combat potential, so two people firing the same gun will do different levels of damage. It also isn't the same metric as the suits, which is why Hoshina doesn't use firearms, instead using melee weapons, which he has a talent for.

I really like that Mina addresses our boi as "Kafka-kun" secretly. I'm assuming that's what she almost said during the ceremony when she caught herself and switched to saying "HIbino Kafka" instead. I just found it endearing that she uses "-kun" as an honorific for Kafka. It could potentially just be the senior-junior relationship is but I still like the sound of it. 96% on her unleashed combat potential is crazy though. She might as well be a full-on Kaiju herself.

I'm starting to see why people criticise MC. The whole show tries to be Evangelion-like, but Kafka is a comic relief. I guess it will change when he'll inevitably "go kaiju", but up until now he's basically out of place
