Believe it or not, Iceland has the unique distinction of being the only Country in the whole World to arrest their National Bankers, and charge them with a crime, for running up a huge debt. The bankers tried to get the population to pay for their huge losses. Thankfully the economy recovered and is doing great. Imagine how things would change here if we were to do that! The entire population is less than a million people. I hope to go visit some day. Thank you.

Iceland people are wonderful people - polite, great sense of humor, excellent command of English, and straight forward when communicating. We LOVED our visit there.

I was stationed in Hofn Iceland from 1976 to 1977. Now as a 68 year old, I harbor many memories of such an interesting place. Ahhh to be 20 again.

I spent almost two years in Iceland (April 1985-September 1986) when I was in the US Navy. I loved Keflavik and became good friends with an Icelander named Gunnar Gunnarsson, who worked on the base. I'll share some of my memories. There were no cows in Iceland, fish and lamb were the staple foods. Their white fish is called Ysa. There was also a fast food burger restaurant called Toma Burger that served lamb burgers. On a trip to the glacier with friends, we noticed a geyser go off and stopped the vehicle. There was a large field of geysers. No one was around, no fences, no parks, just geysers, some reaching 20 feet. I experienced two 'Charlie' class blizzards while there where you couldn't see more than 3-4 feet in front of you. In the summer, friends played football after our evening watch shift, at midnight. In the summer, the sun set around 10:00 pm and rose at 2:00 am. I saw the first large music concert held in Reykjavik in several years in 1985, Madness with Fine Young Cannibals. I left there shortly before Sugarcubes/Bjork became popular. I could go on but this is long already. Iceland is beautiful and I would love to go back again.

I spent 10 days in Iceland in the 1990s and toured on a tour bus package. I loved it, There are so many Icelandic Horses roaming free that the owners may not know exactly how many they own, and the many colors of the Icelandic Horse are astounding. When I visit Norway or Denmark, I always go via Iceland Air and spend a few days in Iceland to ride the horses.

I lived in Iceland from June 80 through June 81 with the USAF. Enjoyed it tremendously. Will be returning soon for a long overdue visit this time taking my wife with me. Such a beautiful country.

I am born and raised a Viking Icelander and I can say most of these facts are absolutely true 😀 Don't hesitate to drop me a message if you have some more questions about our beautiful island. I got to say though that the sheep's head is true and delicious! But the Hákarl and Brennivín (fermented shark and black death 'vodka') is mainly just for tourists... we don't actually eat or drink that regularly 😄 But yes! We do have best hot dogs in the world! I visited Iceland last year with my family. One of the best places I have visited and would go back there again. Icelanders are very friendly people and treat everyone with respect no matter what you look like. Wonderful country with wondeful people.

I visited Iceland in winter. The trip was short, but hugely impressive to me. I felt I was the only one who was enjoying the travel at that time of year, late November and early December. I was deeply impressed by the sheer beauty of the country, the other-worldly atmosphere, the northern light coupled with the moon seen on a hill by the sea, and seemingly mysterious rocks by the road, which looked like monsters or strange humans. I want to visit the country again then in other season than winter.

My wife and I visited Iceland in 2018, and loved it. The scenery was gorgeous and eye-popping, but most amazing to me was the utterly cosmopolitan nature of non-European fellow touristis: Chinese, Indians, Malaysians, Singaporeans, Phillipinos, Indonesians, Australians, New Zealanders, Japanese, Koreaans----and that's just from Australo-Asian side, and not to mention the many people from Central and South America. The fact that so many hundreds of millions of people now have the money to visit places like Iceland---and that there are so many flights to Iceland from everywhere--makes me marvel at how small or world has become. (I went overland across Asia in 1973, and very seldom encountered other Westerners. A completely different world.)

My wife and I traveled to Iceland for ~3 weeks in Sept/Oct 2019. We've visited many countries, and we rank Iceland as among the most interesting/beautiful of all. I'm a geologist, so my interest in Iceland is a given. We would like to return in a year or two, to drive the entire Ring Road.

I don't know much about Iceland but have always had the impression that they were the most civilised country in the world re-enforced in 2010 by the fact they were the only country in the world to proportionately deal with CEO's of the banks that failed.

Had I not been born in New Zealand, Iceland would have been the place I would have chosen. Although I like where I am, much of what Iceland has to offer appeals greatly, particularly the volcanoes, the auroras, the great outdoors and scenery, the wildness of it all.

I once had an Icelander friend who could read and understand 13 languages. He could speak 7 fluently, most, if not all of which had Scandinavian and indo-European roots. He explained to me that most Icelander people speak at least 5 languages (Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and English) out of necessity, because their country's economy is primarily based on tourism and trade.

I am amazed that no mention of Bobby Fischer was made. He won the World Chess Championship there; and he later became a citizen and resided in Iceland for the remainder of his life. He is regarded by many as having been the greatest chess player in history.

The cleanest country I have been to. No litter in the streets. The people are friendly with a great sense of humor.

Been to Iceland many times. The people are wonderful. The countryside, landscape, is very different, strange, and beautiful. They are now growing more trees, thankfully, since folks in the early centuries cut down the forests for homes and heating. Speaking of heating, the homes are all heated for free by geothermal central island sources. Go!

I went to Iceland as tourist in the 90's and was able to visit, experience, and see many of the places in this video. There are as you say many attractive women in Iceland. There is virtually no crime. Everyone I met seemed very friendly and accommodating. Our tour guide told us that no one in Iceland pays for electricity and the way they make money on it, is they sell excess electricity to Europe. I am retired from the airlines and have traveled all over the word and have "known" many women. I live in the U.S.A. and often get asked,if I had to live someplace else, where would that be? My answer is either Iceland or New Zealand.

I retired in Thailand but came all this way to Iceland for a two week holiday in July 2015. Not disappointed. Plenty of time to see so much because In all that time, I never saw the night. The natural environment has been well covered in your article but the two attributes of its people which struck me the most is the almost perfect command of the English language by everybody I interacted with plus their emphasis on personal hygiene. One could also be impressed by their political system of government which ranks as the most direct peoples' democracy anywhere in the world. The only downside was overcrowding with tourists at that time of the year and the extremely expensive ... everything!

One of my best vacations was in Iceland. The people were very friendly everywhere. The natural landscape is unbelievably beautiful. Definitely saw some elves too. I'm planning a second trip to stay on a horse farm. The owners will take you horseback onto the glaciers. Not advertised.

I also lived in Iceland for three (3) years, living just off the Naval Station in both Innri and Ytri Njardvik. (I was a Civilian Contractor supporting the navy's P-3 aircraft. There was a saying that working in Iceland you would become either a "work-a-holic" or an alcoholic. I knew Einar Gudmonson who at the time worked at the base Gym and was an assistant manager. Having free time on my hands, I became a lifeguard at the base pool... I guess I became a "work-a-holic. ;) Einar was studying/training to become a pilot for Icelandair and as such would take me flying with him around the Island in a Piper Cub aircraft (he liked flying up to the "Five Fingers" area in northern Iceland). As I purchased a Toyota Pick-up truck there from the downtown dealership, I would drive around the island (after I decked it out with monster tires, lift kit and overhead spotlights). I really enjoyed the "lamb-dogs", which you could get from a vendor on base, with the dried onions; going to the Blue Lagoon during the winter months,waaayyyy before the current hotel was built there, going out into the warm water with the snow white therapeutic mud, lay back and enjoy the fantastic light show of the Northern Lights. Very fond memories that can only truly be experienced by visiting and staying there for more than just a week or so.

I spent a year in Iceland when I was in the Marine Corp. I was there from December 4,1982 till December 4,1983. We had a training day every week where we would go to different spots around the inland. I hope to go back some day.

I had the privilege of spending two solo weeks in Iceland in June 2015. One of the best trips of my life. Explored Reykjavik and its environs for a few days, then rented a car and drove around the country on Ring Road. I will never forget the beauty of this country.

I took my family there in 2017 and we drove around the circumference of the island. The Icelander who rented us our car called Reykjavík “the town that thinks it’s a city”. I’d recommend stopping over in Iceland when traveling somewhere else and explore for a few days on “The Golden Circle” in the general vicinity of the capital. Otherwise you’ll spend a _lot_ of time driving between the well spaced out scenic areas showcased by this video. I could never live there. It’s dark in winter and too overcast much of the rest of the year.

I was there a while ago. The food was great, northern lights were amazing, blue lagoon was awesome. They did not have any hotels around it then. I took an Icelandair midweek special. It was wonderful.

We visited friends of ours in Iceland in early 1980s. it really is awe inspiring. On our first night we stayed up late catching up and about 3.00am I suggested that Bjorn and I go for a walk as it was still light (i thought it was about 9.00pm!). It was weird seeing kids playing football (soccer) on the field at that time and I noticed that there was no natural sounds, as if nature had stopped for bedtime even though it was bright. We were taken on a magical 4x4 trip into the interior for a few days, where you are truly alone and a hike out to the nearest human being was 40-50miles! We got our most capable vehicle stuck in a melt water stream where it could not climb out and then spent the next 12 hours digging a route through the ice and rocks to winch ourselves out, it was not as if we had a choice, you can't call a friend or the AA. On our return to Reykjavik in the sunshine our friend's grandmother announced that she had just recorded 38degC (100.4degF) on her balcony on the 3rd floor of the apartment block - a bit of a sun trap. There are too many great memories to recount here but it is no doubt an astounding place.

Great documentary. I spent 4 glorious days there in July 1985. Having been a geology major in college, I felt like I was in heaven… a geologist’s heaven! When my feet touched the ground at Keflavik Airport/Airbase, I got down on my knees and kissed the ground! It was like a spiritual experience for me. I will never forget my time there’

Spent 2 great years there as a MSG at the American Embassy from 74-76. Its a beautiful country and the people are wonderful. Would go back in a heartbeat to relive the times and reconnect with the this beautiful place.

My wife and me spent some 15 days in Iceland some 5 year ago and it was mind blowing!! We deeply fell in love with this country and its people and we are currently planning to be back perhaps during this year. We call it our home in the north. We strongly recommend for people loving the clean nature far from the crowded cities to visit it and not just for a few days, stay all you can. People is very friendly, security is granted without police, but always have your gas tank filled to the top. You will need to travel long distances without a single gas station, although there are unattended selfservice gas pumps in the middle of nowhere where you can fill your tank. At that time there was a problem with the international credit cards that didn't work on the parking meters and gas pumps. Hopefuly this problem is already solved, but if not, you can buy a prepaid card and you are done. And talking about music, we will try to meet the Kaleo people, that is a fantastic icelandic rock band, whom surely you listened them in TV series like Netflix Suits or movies, without knowing who the were.

I will fly to Iceland this coming September. And I will also tour Iceland on a bicycle for 35 days there. It is going to be my first time there but I am sure that it will give me beautiful experiences and memories that I will never forget for the rest of my life. Had been to Iceland as C/O of the Merchant Marine circling the island loading palletized salted bacalao, discharged in Lisbon Portugal, Spain in the late '80's . No time though to went ashore to visit each ports which should had been a once in a lifetime opportunity. Judging to which I've seen around and people I've met in ports, you will fall in love with this country. Quite, Friendly and Peaceful. Hope to be back one day as tourist. I'm now retired. On my first visit to Iceland, I engaged a salesperson in a shop in a conversation in Danish (my father was a Dane and I went to school there for part of a school year). Icelanders have their own version of Danish that sounds almost nothing like what you might hear in Copenhagen, lacking ome of the more extreme aspects of Danish pronunciation or use of vowels.
