Imagine telling someone the Leafs and Panthers are playing in the second round💀💀

when i heard a commentator say “the panthers have beat the bruins to face the leafs in the second round”, i realized hearing that sentence a month ago would’ve sent a few of us into a coma lol. i was in genuine shock when the leafs moved on, even tho i felt this would be their year, but the shock i felt when BOSTON lost in the first round was on another level… these playoffs so far have been so incredibly unpredictable especially now with the defending cup champs out to a team who’s never played in the playoffs. i’m really excited to see what happens from here

TBH I think its way worse losing a series with a 3-1 comeback, than a 4-0 sweep, because if you're up 3-1 you'd definitely feel you can take the series with one more win. And if your'e being swept you'd already. at some point you'd accepted more defeat as the series goes on. One is pure embarrassment and the other is a series of total defeat throughout.

Florida forcing game seven was insanely improbable, but here we are with Florida going to round two, That’s playoff hockey!

Bobrovsky was the winning goalie for both the 2019 series vs the Lightning and the 2023 one vs the Bruins.

both of my brackets busted, but I'm so happy at this result. There's no greater joy than watching a team like Boston somehow go from being very likely to win in 4, to potentially being able to win 5, to somehow it being the 6th game, and to finally lose it in the 7th game. These are the types of things that really fuel me and make me happy to be a hockey fan

As a Leafs fan, I have no words. Boston was not supposed to lose. Not in this round and not in this way. The playoffs are scary because anything can happen and it just did. Toronto has been on the losing end enough times to become numb to it so all I'll say to Boston fans is life goes on and see you next season. And congrats to Florida. See you soon in Toronto.

Vegas fan here. I literally told someone about a month or so ago that the Cup was the Bruins to lose. They had arguably the best record in the NHL, they looked amazingly powerful, and it was if you could just tell everybody else to go home and just hand the Cup over to them. Believe me, the shock of them losing extends to more than just Boston. But then again, they won the Presidents trophy, which from what I understand, is a guaranteed short stay in the playoffs.

If you look at all the teams remaining in the playoffs (pending the winner of the Devils/Rangers series), a team who haven't won the Cup for a long time (in the case of Florida, Vegas, Seattle, never) will get to hoist it once again. The last champion was the Devils (in 2000 i believe) while the Rangers was back in 1993. To quote Draymond Green: "Fun times ahead," 😂

As a Bruins fan i’m devastated and heartbroken but moments like this are why we watch hockey. I’m happy for Florida and their fans as they’ve experienced enough heartbreak, but this is a tough one to go through.

Being a hardcore hockey fan, the playoffs are an emotional rollercoaster that often ends in heartbreak. The seven game series really amp the drama.

Bruins fan here. Absolute heartbreaker, but not unexpected, as it shouldn't have been to anyone that watched any of the last few games. The Panthers were who I worried going up against most for the first round, and rightfully so. Gonna miss our captain, I feel bad for him to go out like this. Going forward, gonna root for the Leafs, and Seattle for Western. Always sad when you're team is out, but playoff hockey is exciting to watch, no matter who you're going for.

Fear of losing is a stronger emotion than wanting to win.

So before anyone says they choked, lets review for the series: Boston +/- was NEG 28 Florida was PLUS 66. Florida had as much of a hand in WINNING that series as Boston did in losing it. Winning game 4 is always the hardest one. Marchand could have salted it away in 5, but HE is the chock artist and I love that its him having a nightmare of simply elevating that puck 6 more inches to win with 0.01 on the clock because that's Bob's weak side. Then Tkachuk stuffing it in OT to win, simply is icing on the cake. Florida won it as much as Boston blew. You can have both and Coyle was misused once Bergeron came back. Terrible coaching as well. Maurice schooled the Boston coaches all series. He's the big reason we're moving on.

Been watching hockey for many years and the playoff’s are always a different beast. We watch Montreal last place go all the way to finals. It happens a lot so no surprises But never the less the most important part is it was great hockey. Loved it. And that’s what it really about for all fans and it promotes the game.

Panthers are my 2nd team. Canes my 1st. I'm not a Tkachuk fan, but he dragged this team to victory like a mom drags her kid to church. Glad Duclaire is back so hopefully they can keep the momentum up. We've seen Florida have wild comebacks in games with seconds on the clock. That was the whole 2021-2022 season. I knew they would score and tie it up. I didn't expect the OT winner

As a bruins fan when they lost game 6 I knew they were loosing, also I feel so bad for Bergeron his last season (a nhl record regular season) ends in a round 1 loss. I think a key thing of game 7 was that they tried to play to defend the lead but you can’t hold onto a 1 goal lead for 20 min in a game 7 playoff series, they shouldn’t of took the foot off the pedal and kept offensive pressure. But that’s just my 2 cents.

This is the most insane first round I've ever seen. Both teams that made it to the Final last year are out. One lost to the team that's notorious for first round exits and the other lost to a team in that's only in its second season. And the Bruins somehow managed to pull a stunt that's at least on par with the 2019 Lightning, if not worse. Gotta love it.

As a Lightning fan, this made me happy for my South Florida brothers and sisters, and will continue to root for their success to the very end.

I was at game 5 of the 2008 Stanley cup finals. I can assure you that being down; then scoring 3 straight, then giving up a late goal (34 seconds) and losing in ot (2ot) is unbelievably painful. Luckily my pain was short lived.

This is like the 2007 Patriots or 2016 Warriors: both breaking the regular season records for their respective leagues and NOT winning it all. And it’s hard to guess which hurts more: those 2 teams going all the way and “tripping at the finish line”, or losing so early in the playoffs when you know you should have already moved on to the next round. Either way, you can’t deny the other teams who beat them (Giants, Cavaliers and Panthers) were on a hot streak entering the playoffs and we got a good series (or Super Bowl) out of each one.

I am a die hard Leafs Fan. I was at game 4 Detroit, game 7 St. Louis, and game 7 LA, in 1993. I was born July 1967 so I have not been on this earth since they won the Cup. It has been 30 years since we almost made it, and this could be the year given their talent. HOWEVER, I will not take Florida lightly. They just beat the Boston Bruins, and they will be on fire to take us out too. Just stick to your game Leafs, and you will prosper.

Watching the end of this game was so crazy. From the goal being scored at the last minute by Florida to the overtime shot this game was an absolute thrill ride!

Yup as a tampa fan I already knew the record breaking regular season means absolutely nothing and that boston would experience an early exit just as my bolts did. Also Florida has had a really strong team the last few years, their issue was that they kept meeting the lightning early. The Lightning vs Panthers series always seemed like the hardest and scariest on their recent runs. But most fans didn't get too really see that or pay attention to it, so it's no wonder people actually think the panthers beating boston is an upset, or that their potential win over the Leaf's would also be one.

Wildest Stanley cup playoffs in a while! RIP Bruins and Aves

Just WOW! This is seriously the most exciting playoffs I can remember! Boston going down to the 2nd wild card Panthers is downright mind blowing! Seattle beating Colorado in 7, Toronto winning a series against the 3 time Final attendees Lightening, Carolina able to close the series out earlier than most teams but being down pretty much an entire side of wingers, and there's no telling what's gonna happen between New York and Jersey. I'm rooting for the Hurricanes all the way but I'd be happy to see Florida or Toronto go the distance this year.

Not a huge hockey fan, but I watch the playoffs usually. Your channel found its way to my feed and since I usually hit the sack by the third period its nice to get your updates. I might likely Boston a hair more than other teams, but regardless of the outcome I think both teams played well, big fans got to watch 7 whole games of the series, and again well-played by both sides. Itll be an interesting Mat for sure.

As we look back on this series years from now I’m willing to bet the turning point of the series will be recognized as the Ullmark f-up in game five!

I prefer the 3-0 series choke to the Flyers in 2010. I started watching hockey in 1994. Paul Maurice became coach of the Whalers the next year at age 28. Amazing he is still a coach 30 years later.

All Bruins fans saw it coming. Once we went up 3-1 in the series it was turnover after turnover and the defense just stopped. Ullmark had rough nights and it was a entire mess.

We could legitimately see an Oiler/Leaf cup final

I remember Caps losing to Montreal they were up 3 to one, they were expected to win, but they fell in the first round....such pain.

The Panthers were similar last year. They were a juggernaut in the regular season only to exit early. They did win one series but after 122 points they just crapped out. Not a hockey expert, but it seems pretty clear that regular season and playoff hockey are almost two different sports.

Realistically, when you never face adversity in the regular season you have no idea how to handle it in the playoffs. The Bruins cruised in as much as a team possibly could, they never had to learn how to adjust so they couldn't when they really needed to.

I don’t watch hockey, just how significant is this moment to sport’s history as a whole?

I don't think people are giving enough credit to where credit is due, the Florida Panthers. They played really great, they never gave up and even thou they were down 3 games to 1 against the team with the best record in NHL regular season history they had a never say die attitude. That was really astonishing.

Don’t forget the SJ Sharks winning the President’s Trophy only to get annihilated by Los Angeles in the first round. I’m still healing from that one!

It’s really nice to see a future where the the Pasternak/Marchand/Bergeron line is no more. Will be very interesting to see how Pasternak performs, if he’s at all capable of being a leader. Boston benefited from a strong core defence and load management on the back end of goaltending this year. I said it since mid year, Boston is a fluke. When you look behind ullmarks season, he was protected like a newborn baby. The team never faced adversity, never had the experience of battling injuries or stretches of poor play. This isn’t your daddy’s NHL anymore.

Just watched my hometown Kraken upset the Avalanche and send them home in game 7. Also remember the 2001 Mariners, who won the most games in the history of MLB (116, tied with the 06 Cubs) and then lost in the first round of the playoffs without even winning a home playoff game. The M's didn't return to the playoffs for another 20 years, with last years team finally breaking the string. You just never know when it comes to playoffs - that goes for hockey, baseball, football, anything. It's all a crapshoot when the postseason comes around.

What's really frustrating being a Boston Bruins fan for a long time has been their inconsistency and their inability to capitalize in the huge moments. Yes they won in 2011 which was great, but they had a monumental collapse the year before that, and since then have had a number of years they could have or should have ended the season better and weren't able to capitalize and it is usually self inflicted. Another strong criticism I can give, is that they have moved away from being the tough, physical Big Bad Bruins to embrace speed and skill, which obviously worked well during the regular season. But you get into playoff hockey and get into these 7 games series, and these other teams just play more physical than them, control the forecheck, and end up beating Boston at its own game. In recent years they got knocked out of the playoffs by St. Louis, Tampa, Carolina, and now Florida, and no matter how "good" of a roster the Bruins have, that same story still comes back. Until they can learn that you not only need to have offense and defense, but also a tough, physical team that can control the forecheck, they're not going to get over that hump again.
