Didnt expect snails to work i thought for sure theyll be eaten. Im afraid to put pleco in my tank for same reason, closest algae eater I had with my ornates are redtail sharks. Theyre active at night so the bichirs cant really catch them at night

The best cleaning crew im using is golden mystery snail .. almost 2years still didnt even use magnet glass cleaner..🤣🤣 nice topic bryan.. keep it up..👍👍👍

Haha I was going to get a mystery snail, but the only ones I saw at my LFS were bright in color. I wanted a snail that would be a bit low key, especially so the bichirs don't see a bright snail crawl across the substrate and want to mess with it. Thanks for watching! I appreciate it !

I bought two bichir from petsmart and have them in a 75 gallon planted tank. They barely come to the bottom thou and spends most of their time in floating plants. I check my water parameter weekly before water changes and everything is fine. Any advice?

this happened to me when I was raising Delhezi and my two Endlichiris. Baby bichirs will float to the top as its like... as sense of security for them; The floating plants is like a safe zone. give them time to get used to their aquarium and they'll come around

@@BryanLa That's right. If you let the young ones choose between caves or plants, they'd choose to sit on top of the leaves near the surface. Mine sits on the driftwood or big leaves most of the time. I can only see them go to the cave when they are eating and some fish tries to steal their food.

Any updates on the snails? I'm thinking of using them with my bichirs. Already have 2 large mystery snails with them now but the bichirs are still small.

Theyre still there, my bichirs don't mind them at all. I find them burrowed in the sand at times but other than that they're always out and about. Ill give updates on them on my next bichir update

Thanks for the support! Hopefully your bichirs will leave the snails alone. I think as long as they're well fed they'll be okay. I even have ember tetras living with my bichirs peacefully haha..

Do you have a video showing the tank mates you recommend for bichirs?

I don’t, but I have multiple videos of them with different kinds of tank mates. From my experience, fish like wolves (not super aggressive hoplias), datnoid, arowana, other bichirs, knife fish, Geophagus,mid to top water characins should work. Other fish that should work that I don’t have experience with is Gar. Just need to make sure they can’t eat the tank mate or can’t be eaten by the tank mate. I do not recommend plecos or aggressive cichlids. Thanks for the video topic idea! Maybe I’ll make one later down the road 🙏

They eat hikari carnivore pellets and the snails eat algae

Theres other snails but theyre horned snails. I didnt put them in just in case my bichirs tried to eat them. I didnt want the spines to hurt my bichir

@@BryanLa oof ok! I need algae eaters aswell but I have bichirs and they ate mine. My local aquarium shop doesnt sell snails and I'm afraid to get a pleco

@@xxdeathytxx7998 definitely recommend nerite snails. Maybe its just my bichirs, but they can care less about my two snails. I see the snails roaming from time to time too haha, which is hilarious.

It would depend on your bichir, My Snails are still with my Bichirs till this day with no problems at all, they sometimes eat together. Even with the addition of new Bichirs to my group they still are untouched

Chinese algaea eaters are just as bad! Game home from one day to find my lion head's back all chewed up! Angry is not the word I had in mind. I boiled the algea eater--slowly. 😡😡😡🤬🤬😡
