Hotels should pay more taxes!!! They want to be the only game in town and we just gave them the keys. People grumble about tourism yet, support hotels and the ugly they bring to the islands...

That's more emblematic of the job market in Hawaii. I moved away after I graduated because I wanted to work for a corporation. None of those types of jobs in Hawaii.

Only 5% of the housing in Hawaii are vacation rentals. Converting them to long term rentals will not solve the affordable housing problem. Democrats are diverting attention away from their harmful and incompetent legislation and policies that have doubled the cost of housing.

No because they already declared hawaii has a housing crisis so this bill combats that problem. We can't keep building home in hawaii or there won't be enough water to supply them in the future or they need to make desalination more efficient

The property you are speaking of is a HOME. You can't run a hotel in a residential neighborhood. If you want a property zoned for a hotel operation, go purchase it and run a hotel. There are people who bought property with a hone and want to live in a neighborhood to raise their family that is safe without strangers in and out and many of them partying.

The problem causing all of Hawaii's castrophic disasters is incompetent, corrupt and incorrigible Demo Rats. Only fools believe seizing private property is going to address Hawaii's Demo Rat Plaque that has caused two thirds of all residents born and raised in Hawaii (Native Hawaiians) to flee Hawaii's Demo Rat Hell. The problem, Hawaii's Demo Rats are causing all of Hawaii's castrophic disasters and does not have any viable solutions to Hawaii's Demo Rats caused disasters. Further, the problem is never the solution and to believe otherwise means you are desperate or delusional or just plain foolish. In fact, Hawaii's Demo Rats failed and unsustainable communist agenda will continue to cause even more Hawaii residents to flee for their lives or perish in Hawaii's Demo Rat Hell.

That's a violation of the US constitution. Better to have the government stop allowing mulit million dollar condo & homes to be built. Instead allow for more low income & middle class affordable homes to be built.

or the government could stop developers from building million dollar plus condos and build affordable housing for the lower incomd & middle class. But, the politicans dont want that. Now the home owers of these homes/condos will just increase the yearly annual rental price to pay their morgage. see how this works. the government NEVER fixes anything...that is not their job. Their job is to take all the citizens money for this tax that tax etc.

@@user-eh8yz6ko3t I’m saying as far as short term permits. It takes care of two bird with one stone. The first is that it will reduce the amount of supply allowed to be rented on Airbnb. The second is that it will still allow locals to use the service and also bring down the price of rentals.
