If you are not from Hawaii and don’t live here then you should not get a permit. She’s not wrong. I was born and raised in Hawaii and have been living in Kihei for the last 14 years. I guarantee the county was already planning on raising property taxes way high. To make up for the stupidity of their actions or lack of actions in Lahaina. But, that’s lady was one hundred percent right. They just needed a scapegoat and I think we found it. STR.

It's a stawman proposal.. Fire victims don't want to live in Kihei, etc.. so why ban STR's outside the burn zone? Bisson and his commie allies want to do this even without the fire.. but the typical Democrats they will do anything to further their agenda "Never let a good crisis go to waste" - Saul Alinsky

Giving homes to Hawaii residents instead of tourists who just add pollution and traffic to the roads and nice places that locals enjoy, is the solution. Along with the rent for Hawaii born residents set at an affordable rate. This will give the families and next generation a chance to live in the communities they grew up in. Too many mainlanders with no being greedy, it’s not about the money.

@@mattbosley3531 tourism is not a reliable resource. It is working slave/service jobs while selling out our home for easy money. Tourist add so much pollution to the island with the added trash, land such as toilet use etc, air like cars and trucks lanes etc and sea from sunblock and walking in the reef etc, along with the heavy traffic through our beautiful locations. Try getting a real job that actually benefits the islands and produces some of which you consume, like farming. Here in Hawaii we live in harmony with nature and live to perpetuate its bounty and beauty. Not just use and abuse it for tourist $

With the huge need that the state obviously wants to address. Why not build a some town homes or let people build tiny homes. A lot of the need is really for single and two people rentals. You could put 5 or 6 of these units on a lot and then would open up larger home space in existing communities. A lot of the rentals are industry workers (maybe, not sure of the numbers) like bartenders, waiters, servers... Let the people or owners do what they want and can without going through red tape. They build it safe (have an inspector on site to inspect as they go) under supervision and immediate permit approval on the spot. Then things may start to happen and possibly change the whole way housing is done in the state of Hawaii. thinking out loud. why not?

The STVRs make major bank as BnBs. It got out of control because the number of units were never regulated. Now these property owners feel entitled to $150/night+ BnBs. Most of them are not kanaka maoli but transplant who jumped on the train. So many STVRs has contributed to an imbalance to the socio economic well being of Maui. They won’t like it but something has to give and the number of STVRs needs to be reduced. The health of our people and our community takes precedence. The tax loss from BnBs will be felt somewhat but the chance of stability in the housing market will be worth it.

Maybe it won't work but, str's were getting way out of hand. How about all of the unpermitted str's? AND. . . How many str owners stepped up and helped a displaced family after the fire? Because, not all did. But, as soon as fema offered 200% of the normal rental, many many many were there to take advantage of that. So if you didn't help out, too bad.

It's not the job of the STR owners....it's the County officials to find housing of the displaced victims. These displaced victims may have housing later but won't be able to afford to rebuild because there won't be jobs for them in the island. STR provides so many jobs for locals. Hawaii is doomed because their county officials are corrupt and do not know what they are doing. STRs provide so much funding and county makes so much money...but where is it? Pandemic came and tourists didn't come to the island and what happened? It almost killed the island and its residents. No short term rentals? That is where this is heading...living like it's pandemic all over again. The whole island will be a ghost town.

The pandemic was abrupt and even locals weren’t out in the community spending money, so OBVIOUSLY businesses suffered, it’s not comparable! But we adapted and found ways to thrive, we found inspiration to start new careers, to start our own businesses, and that’s a perfect example of our resilience and that we CAN survive without tourists, just like we used to.

Totally agree we need more housing. But to remove these rental short terms will actually hurt these communities. Our visitors in these communities utilize the mom and pop stores and all nearby establishments. Maybe they got to look at who is running these businesses. If it is a local family that is doing this to survive and potentially improve their quality of life; should be able to this type of business. Or someone that moved away and wants to come back to Hawaii and this is a way to do it. These local investors or owners of a BUSINESS will put the money back into the communities around the state of Hawaii. That and beach front will not be affordable. They got to be real. Who is really behind this PUSH? my guess is the hotel industry... who is really losing out? What was the situation before the fire? There are a lot of questions that should be answered before anything is done. Was this put to the people of Hawaii on the ballot?

*Jesus said to them:* 'My food is to do the will of him (Jehovah) who sent me and to finish his work.’" Jesus explained that his greatest joy was to do God's will and complete the work. To preach the [good news] about God's Kingdom and how it will bring real peace to all who put faith in his Son, the Christ and the resurrection. Only God's Kingdom can solve all the problems we face: wars, famine, earthquakes, terrible diseases, ruining of the earth, and no one will say: “I am sick.” With Christ as our King ruling over the earth, peace will never end and shine like the moon forever and ever on earth. This system is coming to its end. Human governments will soon be destroyed during Armageddon and replaced. Do you want to have a perfect loving and kind ruler like Jesus, or continue supporting human leaders over God's Son? Everyone will have to make a choice. They don't have to replace taxes. They can cut some of the budget. They are down 600 employees now, so they're saving money. They can cut more.
