I was backpacking out to the primitive campsite last week and couldn't make it down the section at 10:15. Too slick with a 30ish pound pack on. Had to hike back out the way I came! Definitely more challenging than what a video can show. Funny thing is the easiest part of the trail is on the other side of that drop. The primitive trail is pretty amazing though. Much easier to hike in the summer months when your shoes have some more grip on that rock. You absolutely need extra traction (yaktrax, etc.) in the winter. Thanks for posting and confirming I'm not totally crazy for not making it down that bit! haha

Knowing how hot it gets there in the summer, it seems crazy that here's that amount of deer. We didn't see any in the summer so were surprised to see them in this video! Very cool to see what was past the Private Arch as in the summer we just couldn't cope with the heat to go onto the trickier trail. When you got to the huge puddle, I couldn't work out why Adam was struggling so much on the rock, the camera made it look really flat, then when you angle switched to show Kathryn coming across, I could see why it was so difficult! 🤣 Really hope you make it back to do the Fiery Furnace in the future. 🔥 Very excited to see what's in the Needles. 🙌

The mornings were pretty chilly, so we got lucky! And as we edited this we were like "this puddle part does NOT look sketchy" (as sketchy as it felt as we kept sliding trying to cross it), but we are glad the other angle demonstrated it better haha. We saw some people basically run across and I think that was key to not slipping and falling into the water. But we were too nervous! And the Needles was SO awesome, cannot wait to share!

I re-watched this a couple of times in preparation. I did this today, and I went counter clockwise, because I thought going up the slickrock at 10:15 would be easier than going down. Challenging, but amazing. I especially enjoyed Navajo Arch. Unfortunately, I did witness a 60 year old woman fall into a crevice at the 4:53 spot where Adam is climbing in your video. She was conscious, and thankfully an EMT and a nurse heard the pleas for help and were able to tend to her while NPS rescue teams were en route. I'm planning to brush up on my first aid skills and be better prepared.

Your photography and filming skills are exceptional. We’re going to Arches in June after the drive down 128 to Moab. Unfortunately it will likely be in the afternoon when it’s busier and hotter but we’ll try and be adventurous even though we both have some back and balance issues. This was a wonderful series (UT parks). Breathtaking. To think that our lifespans are milliseconds in a geological clock and some of the arches collapsed only a few years ago is crazy!! The lighting in your UT series was fantastic. You did mention one hike was at 5:30AM (in a previous video); what were the other times? And what month was this recorded? Thank you!!!
@AdventuresofAplusK
@AdventuresofAplusK 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! The arches really put into perspective how wild this earth is and how we are just a tiny speck! This was recorded end of April and we started basically every video around 6:00 AM or so when the sun started to rise and filmed most of them throughout the entire day.

Superb job filming this hike. Great balance between highlighting the features and showing the difficulties and differences of the terrain that will be encountered. I have only ever made it to Landscape Arch but have the entire loop on the itinerary for next year. A few questions if you don’t mind. I see that clockwise is typically recommended. How much more difficult would it be to go counterclockwise? Do you recall if one side of the loop is more shaded than the other? Just trying to be extra prepared/cautious since our timeframe is late June.
@AdventuresofAplusK
@AdventuresofAplusK 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Michael! We feel like a lot of people recommended counterclockwise to beat crowds, but we are still kind of confused about this. The busiest spots were on the left side of the loop since that’s the “easier” part and has all of the arches, so that’s why we decided to go clockwise, so we could avoid crowds for those spots. Going counterclockwise would have you visiting those spots at the end of your hike, which seems like it would be busier? Either way would work though and both are about equally unshaded. Our biggest tip, as always but especially in the summer, is start early! Not just for crowds, but the heat as well. The sunrise lighting also was very pretty on this hike!

@@AdventuresofAplusK early morning is definitely key. We were at the Vermillion Cliffs in mid-August for hiking. We bought reflective hiking umbrellas and they were pretty clutch. I would definitely recommend them. Even by 10:30(ish) sun was brutal. As always, appreciate the insight and love that you take the time to respond.

That stinky puddle was there the last time I went but may have been a bit smaller. It may not be the safest option but we each got a running start and “ran” around the left edge of it and had enough momentum to not splat in the water. Grippy shoes and quick feet can get it done 😂😂😂

Great video! The trail section at 12: 12 seems quite dangerous no? I have no concerns about the walking but I am afraid of weight. Does the video make it more perilous that it seems? Thanks.
@AdventuresofAplusK
@AdventuresofAplusK Жыл бұрын
The water section? It wasn't dangerous unless you went on the rock slope on the side of it because it was slippery. We didn't feel comfortable trying to skirt around water so we just went through the water. Other than that there weren't any "sketchy" or dangerous parts on the trail, at least to us. Some people have different levels of dangerous, though. Thanks and thanks for watching

I really enjoyed this hike albeit I was a little nervous initially but glad I stayed the extra day in Moab and allowed myself the opportunity. I thought Moab was a fun laid back place too so was happy to stay the extra night but it did cost me some $$. That's what you get when you 'wing it' on a roadtrip though. Missed out on Canyonlands as was heading to Durango but will be back

We were nervous too! And it wasn't as bad as we thought it would be thankfully (scrambling can freak me out). Moab is expensive to stay! We had to get a hotel for a couple nights due to heat and had to drive up to Grand Junction to get an affordable one

@@AdventuresofAplusK Nah it was OK but certainly remember the steep bit! I was on a solo trip so was maybe overthinking it. Eventually tagged along with a group so felt a bit calmer 😀 I turned up late at Moab on a Thursday night after a long day driving (well for a person from the UK anyway) from Page via Horseshoe Bend, Monument Valley and a lot of the hotels were full so had to take what I could and was too tired to go searching for alternatives. Grand Junction? I though just out of town was too far out!
