Thanks for this video. I’ve used many gallons of Emerald matte and I really like its hide properties, it’s like rolling on wallpaper. I still do two coats though. The matte also helps hide imperfections well.

Another Great Video! I too have started recommending the Matte finish and use it a lot in the Duration, but have always use Satin in the Emerald. Now I can’t wait to try out the Emerald in Matte. Thanks for all Your Great content Keep it coming! BTW. The Ben Moore people have been trying to bring me over from S-W So I used in a Record Executives office And You are so right. It’s kinda like working with mayonnaise. It covers well, but I don’t think it’ll ever be my go to paint Although I do like Advance and STIX.

I dont know if you remember but this is the paint you recommended to me to use on my granddaughters room that had black ,gold and red paint. She was going thru a harry potter stage. Lol! Anyways i took your recommendation and used emerald wall paint. The stuff is fantastic! It gave me exactly the fiinish i wanted. Ive discovered when using high quality paint i always hesitate to apply a second coat because the first coat looks really nice to me. However nomatter how nice i think one coat looks ,the second coat makes it even better. Not sure why this is but it just works. It may be physiological but the second coat is definitely worth it. The Emerald went on really smooth and honestly makes my mediocre paint skills look even better. Lol! Thanks for the advice. 😊

Love your videos. I've loved using Emerald around my house. I had to use another brand for a color we had in our bathroom and the other brand was absolutely night and day worse off in coverage and application annoyances. One thing I've found with Emerald is I am spending an eternity at the sink trying to get all the paint out of the brushes. The tradeoff is worth it though! It's my go-to, but I'm just an occasional interior painter for my own house.

Super vassar brothers great videos been watching for awhile now love your videos. Looking to start a painting business just looking on how to estimate for interior paint. I’m having trouble pricing interior jobs. Great job on the videos once again. 👍
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for reaching out! Estimating is a skill that you’ll get better with, the more you do it and then pay attention to how things went. When you’re looking at an interior job take notes on what the client wants. Take pictures of the room with your phone. Measurements are also useful. When you write up the estimate be specific as to what the job includes and does not include. Use the square footage and your experience to calculate your material cost. Then take an educated guess as to how long you think it’s going to take you to complete the work. Most people underestimate how long it will take. Multiply how many hours you think it’ll take by your hourly rate then add that to your material cost. You’re going to want to add a certain % to that total number so that you’re actually making a profit. 40% is a good percentage to shoot for. Look at that final number then ask yourself “would I be willing to do this work for this amount of money?” If the answer is yes then send it, if it’s a no then adjust accordingly.

Just bought a new construction home last Spring. The builders painted the walls with SuperPaint in Flat, and trim with Solo in Semi-Gloss. Its a tract home so as you would expect the drywall mudding and baseboard/casing finishing is a rush job at best. I've been going room by room, fixing the drywall issues and repainting the trim with Emerald. Since I am brushing it on its not as "nice" as the builders spray job but man... Emerald is soooo much nicer. Its like going from a basic white to like a white pearl or something. Since its urethane it has a glow to it. Were going to paint all the walls in Emerald as well next year. I can't wait

When painting over 60s paneling would you recommend this paint? It’s in a kitchen and I’m planning on using white.
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers 5 ай бұрын
I’m guessing it’s wood paneling. You will probably want to prime the paneling first before using any finish paint. Fresh Start from Benjamin Moore is a great primer. If you’re getting a lot of bleed through (particularly if the paneling has a lot of wood knots in it) then you may need to spot prime with BIN shellac. Once it’s primed then you can use whatever finish paint you want. Emerald matte is a great option and my current favorite wall paint.

I’m having the interior of my house repainted. Going from a dark gray color to an off white (SW 7568 Neutral Ground), would two coats of Emerald cover the dark gray or should a primer be used first? If so, what primer would you recommend?
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers Ай бұрын
You should be good with 2 coats of emerald. It handles color shifts really well. That’s my assessment without seeing how dark of a gray that you’re trying to cover. If two coats doesn’t work in an area then I’d go with fresh start primer from Benjamin Moore. That’s a great product for big color shifts.

Just finished a room with flat emerald in a medium dark purplish gray (the wife’s office 🙄) looks amazing! I’m a fan of flat paint (I think behr’s eggshell of 22 years ago ruined me🤮) and this stuff goes on smooth as can be and looks like velvet when it’s done. Im just a diy er but it’s great stuff IMO, love it. Is matte vs flat more of a preference thing or is matte more durable? I just love how soft this paint looks in flat, I have 0 idea what matte looks like, more like eggshell? 🤷🏻‍♂️
@SuperVassarBrothers
@SuperVassarBrothers Ай бұрын
So the Emerald Matte looks like a true matte finish. It's got more sheen to it that the flat (obviously), but it still has a soft looking finish. It's what we use for the majority of the interior painting that we do. It is more durable than the flat, so it holds up a bit better to being scuffed, wiped, etc... That being said, I am also a big fan of the Emerald Flat. We use that in certain areas. It also looks awesome with darker colors.

@@SuperVassarBrothers Awesome, thanks for replying! I was at my SW store today and got their sheen pamphlet, it does still have that soft look to it. Nice video 👍 I recently painted a few rooms for a client using the Benjamin Moore Regal Select Crisp Linen color going over a medium green. I struggled to get it to cover well, ended up having to do 3 coats which still had slight bleed through especially on the cut in areas. Do you think the Emerald would be a better choice? I might give it a try on my next client next week.

Regal Select is my all time fave paint, never had a problem. Of course whites are always tricky and without a proper primer even the best paint might need more than two coats going over certain colors.

I think you’d probably have a better experience. The most recent formulation of Regal Select has been having issues in the field. I’ll be doing a video on it shortly. If you have a big color shift then you may want to prime first. I’ve had to do three coats of emerald to get a uniform finish with some colors but it’s unusual.

Hmmm, I pay the price that I pay because I’ve purchased hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of product from them over the last 20 years of owning and operating a painting company. Contractor pricing from companies like Sherwin Williams is based on how much product you go through. That’s also why I recommend getting the products I recommend when they’re one sale.

There’s quite a few products that are over $50 a gallon nowadays. You can get emerald for right around $50 a gallon if you get it on sale. It all depends on what your project is and what level of finish quality you’re wanting. Some top tier paints are worth the money and some aren’t. Emerald is excellent, but if it’s not in your price range then no worries. Try something else.
