Unfortunately i've never used the Astera Ax1's before sorry. Just looking at specs but the CRI of the AX1 is only 88, which is pretty low, where as the 30X has a CRI of 98. Personally i spend the extra $90 AUD and get the 30X tube for better colours accuracy. Nothing worse then having a poor quality light and then you spend hours in colour grading trying to make it look decent.

@@AndrewMurphyFilms Yea I've personally used the Asteras on shoots, and I think they are underselling their lights CRI rating. The colors on the Asteras are more accurate and pleasing than any other tube light I've used so far. I found a kit of the ax1's used for $3000, and the same kit of the pavotube 30x is about $5000. Just not sure if it's worth the extra 2 grand, especially since I've heard the battery life on the Pavotubes aren't as good as the Asteras.

That's good to hear. That's why you can never really go off how good a product is by the technical specifications sheet! Sounds like you've got access to a great deal :)

The eggcrates come in their own bags for a reason

@@AndrewMurphyFilms That's a meaningless response I'm afraid. If you work in broadcast documentaries, and other factual programmes, you absolutely want to keep the number of bags/cases to a minimum. Having three bags when one could do is just plain daft. Far, far better to have everything you need for these lights in a single bag. The silly little egg crate bags are just that, silly, They could easily get forgotten or disappear to the back of a production vehicle etc. Having everything in one bag would have been the way to go but Nanlite clearly haven't thought this through. Sometimes the small things matter and on this occasion Nanlite have got this wrong.

@@AndrewMurphyFilms You're just be silly now. The essential accessories for the lights are the eggcrates. And, while i've managed to fit two floor stands in the dual kit bag, the clamps for the barn doors will not fit. It is perfectly reasonable to expect Nanlite to have supplied light bags that can carry the lights, barn doors and floor stands. It is clear they have not thought this through.
