I love these podcasts of yours - very classy, fun, and most of all intelligent discussions about music! Incidentally, about the Philippines in terms of music and singing - I agree. When the legendary Cameron Mackintosh went all over the world to cast Miss Saigon and they arrived in the Philippines - they said, it was like practically finding a goldmine of musical talents. It was also there that they found their lead Lea Salonga after a long, extensive, arduous search all around the world. The documentary of the Making of Miss Saigon is a must-see, if you want to fully understand and appreciate. There was also once a cover on the Time Magazine (I think in the 80's) touting the Philippines as the most showbiz nation on earth where even the vice-president sings (Laurel at that time). I totally agree - when I first went to live abroad in the late 90's, so shocked to learn that noontime dancing and singing shows where not the norm in other countries, as well as it being incorporated in schools and practically in everyday life as well... That's when I understood, the Philippines was really unique in it's musicality!

battle round is a battle of artists on the same team. Their coaches choose the song theyre going to perform. I always look forward on Team Bamboo (Kamp Kawayan). He transform every artist and always gives memorable battle rounds and sometimes its very unpredictable on who is he going to choose . and the other coaches is really vocal on how they respect and adore him.

Christy knew little of classical singing hence her bit being that impressive to the coaches. The coaching and brainstorming bit of these two with Lea that they show before the battle starts was pretty interesting.

My favorite contestant that season was Nisha Bedaña. She was the most versatile in my opinion out of all of them. She offered something new and sang a different genre every week.

Battle round is within the team... They're both from team Lea battling to keep their spot on the team... Mica won this round but Christy was stolen by Sharon.... Voting from the viewers comes later on show (Finale)

One of the best battles in The Voice. Totally remarkable.

After Mica’s audition Sharon mentions that her mother went to a conservatory and studied classical music, so she had an appreciation for classical music already. Lea told an emotional story (she teared up) about when she was originally in Miss Saigon in London and she lost her voice. It was the first time she completely lost her voice and she was really upset and worried. She saw doctors who had her on vocal rest for a while and then she saw a vocal coach who taught her classical technique which she said saved her life and she continues to use today.

Battle rounds come after blind auditions. 2 people on the same team sing the same song together (or in this case a mash-up of 2 songs). The coach chooses which members will battle each other and the song. All the coaches give feedback but the coach has final say which 1 to keep and which to let go (who will be available for the others to steal). So after battle rounds the teams are basically cut in half. After battle rounds are knockout rounds. There the coaches again choose the pairings but each singer sings alone and can pick their own song. After each knockout round the coach chooses 1 winner, again cutting their team in half. Then you get to the live shows where audience start voting on who stays.

The battle round is more of a duet. Both (or sometimes 3 people) have to showcase their own singing style with the song given by the coach.

The teens battle rounds are Epic!! On this batch, my favorite battle round was Isabella vs Reign and Bea and Frrizy both battles from Bamboo's team

yas. during battle rounds only the judges/mentors have a say on who they think delivered more depending on their taste however the main mentor of the pair/duo has the final decision in this video--Lea. Mica however won this round, but the other three judges pressed the steal button and fought for cristy to be in their team.

lea salonga is a genius coach, in that season of the voice teens, mica was the favorite and no way lea will drop her from the team, but then lea was able to showcase the talent of christy in which she has no plan on choosing as the winner, but wanted for the other coaches to see how good christy is and deserved to be on the next round. The other coaches "stole" her and lea's plan worked. she wanted both of them to go tru the next round and they did.

VOICE KIDS IS A Euro based competition and a collaboration is a requirement in the competition. And remember all singers at least 99.9 % of these Filipinos are never trained; just RAW talents. And to sing in German and Latin, imagine that....cheers....American-Filipino on the West Coast of the USA.

Battle rounds is more of a collaborative performance than a "battle" done by two artists from the same coach/team. and then the coach is the one who will pick who did it best to advance the next round.

speaking of battle round, my most favorite one is with kurt, john rey and ian singing BELIEVER in the voice kids...that is so good too...they are boys coached by lea..

They were both coached by MRS. LEA SALONGA-CHIEN. And, Mrs. Lea was also the one who chose the song they both sang.

One has to be chosen, but the one who will not automatically go forward has a chance to get back via the "Resbak" section if the one who was not "chosen" can be "stolen" by another judge to compete in the "Resbak." They are both great so the one who was not "chosen" (say, eliminated at this duel) should be given a chance to compete with others also given a second chance, as she could actually be better actually than those who were "chosen" by the other coaches.

Another very good battle is Heather Hawkins and Jeremy Glinoga, "Sana Maulit Muli" by Gary Valenciano, Heather does not speak Tagalog, but she learnt it for this battle. They are Team Sharon, one of the best battle rounds in The Voice PH history.

I think that in battle rounds they have to collaborate even though they are competing. They have to work on making the song sound good together. You can try to out-sing your partner but then the song as a whole will sound bad. You can watch battle rounds from various countries (I’ve mostly watched USA and some UK and Philippines) and sometimes the battle song is in the comfort zone of one performer much more than another. I think this was a nice blend to try to showcase both of them.

what you said about the percentage of talented singers in the philippines...years ago, kuh ledesma and regine velasquez (along with 2 other women, i think) had a concert in singapore and they had interviews in some shows so they could promote the concert. one of the things i remember the host saying is that they have a singing contest there where they get representative from most asian countries...except the philippines. the guy was also a comedian so we can't take what he said too seriously, but he said they chose not to accept filipino contestants because then the same country would just win every year. :D :P

Mah boy Efra spitting some philosophy out there , ur ryt Singing is ART not a Sport so it's very hard to score or judge someone, coz every artist have a different characteristics, different uptake to the song and different genre. For example Moira Dela Torre's voice is not for competition becoz it's soothing, cold, tender and she is story teller. While KZ TANDINGAN will devour anyone in competition coz she is a performer and her artistic approach on a song is out of the box.

My favorite battle is from team bamboo's "your love" by alamid. Battle between kate, ehla and paul. My fave then was kate from this battle. Coach bamboo chose ehla and that made her the winner on that season.

They were both from Team Lea. During the battle rounds, the coach will select pairs from his/her team. They will sing a song chosen by their Coach. During the practice, their coach will, of course, coach them... teach them techniques and how they’re gonna perform every line of the song. After the performance, the coach will choose the winner, then the eliminated one can be stolen by other coaches if they want him/her to be part of their team. The eliminated one will be given another chance. In that round, Mica won so she remained in Team Lea while Christy was stolen by Coach Sharon. 😊 Anyway, “steal” was the term they used when other coaches chose and gave the eliminated contestant another chance. I hope this helps. ♥️

In the Voice Philippines, voting is only available on the grand finals. Other than that, the coaches decides who they wanted to eliminate.

I hope you could watch the end part after they battle, when the coach will pick who won that round and will stay in the competition, you will see also if other coach steals the other whom eliminated. At this point, there is no voting yet, it will be only during finals nights, so basically, the coaches will pick whom they want to be their representative in the finals night to won the title.

Same for me, Waleska. I remembering watching this when it aired. I was so sure Christy would be chosen 🤔

I believe the “Operación Triunfo” show is a localised version of BBC’s “Fame Academy” (Edemol’s “Star Academy)” which so happens to be also related to an old Philippine talent show “Pinoy Dream Academy” where Yeng Constantino made her debut.

Its a good thing that Lea made Christy competitive enough so that she might have a chance that other coaches may steal them in case she choses Mica. Both singers became good friends that is why the output is better

Battle rounds are collaborative. And both came from the same team. Every week each coach eliminates a member of his/her own team until there will be I guess 2 left to be on the finals. The coaches will vote and it's 50% the other 50% will come through people's votes to stay in the finals.
