Pokeball Grog was direct out of the campaign. He had attacked his uncle recklessly and got surrounded by the heard getting beat down to I think 1hp. Vex flew by and saved him with the locket. He dropped, got a nat20 to finish off his uncle and then passed out from fall damage.

Yup, down to 1 HP, and then Travis rolled a nat 20 for the hit on Kevdek. It was a truly epic moment in game as well as on the screen.

@@AAAndrew Even more fun, Travis' used Reckless Attack for that attack on Kevdak, giving him advantage, which is what saved Grog's ass, cause his first roll was a nat 1

more than a nat20, he made the drop attack reckless, rolled with advantage, and got A 20 AND A 1

The Killbox was the closest the party ever got to a TPK up until this point. It really hung on a couple of dice rolls and a handful of hit points.

that's exactly it! Grog CANT do it on his own :D his strength comes from his friends because they help him and make him stronger by fighting along side him(or literally buffing him with spells XD) and yes the fight scene goes harder then it has any right too lol but i do very much like the subversion of 'i am strong because i fight to protect my friends' it is a MUCH more realistic answer to the question, which is why Groon told him he was wrong when he said 'his heart is where his strength comes from' yes wanting to stand up to people makes you strong of Character but it does NOT make you physically strong :3 Scanlans backstory sets him up as a 'class clown' character he is constantly making jokes and to hide how sad he really is its a very common thing you see with a ton of comedians

It’s always just… “the worst timing” for them. First the attempt at a kiss in Season 1, now the offer for a dance in this episode. At some point, they just need to be like, “Ah, fuck it!” And then they just go for it. Because there’s never going to be a “best time” available for them, they gotta make it happen themselves.

Finally someone geeking out almost as hard as I did when Bad News spread the word (and the goliath guts). Nobody has really pointed out how well done the sound design in that exact moment was, sure you get the big satisfying boom, but during the close-up of Percy the rolling thunder in the background just gets me pumped up.

To touch on your post episode commentary, it's not Scanlan's Persuasion that saves him. It's Mercy's poor roll (a Nat 1) that is the saving grace.

No idea who thinks Scanlan's backstory is the most depressing in the group. I mean he's a DnD character and true to form, especially for Vox Machina which is more rooted in archetypes than later campaign characters are, his backstory isn't exactly sunshine and rainbows but compared to other CR characters, even other Vox Machina characters, it really isn't that bad. Non Scanlan related Spoilers for Kiki As for Vax and Kiki.. I really don't think there is any way they could do their story without featuring their relationship. Both characters have more to them than just their love story certainly, but the events of their romance are simply too important to both of their characters and how they develop. For Keyleth's story specifically it's a formative element that really impacts who she is and who she becomes, with the lasting impact visible even decades later. Not doing their romance at all or having them pair off with other characters would essentially require them to either mirror certain events with their new partners, making the change pretty pointless, or just outright heavily change who both Vax and Kiki themselves are by the end of their story.

honestly i think its cause his backstory is relatable; sure everyone elses is 'more sad' but Scanlans is REAL like that shit can really happen to people and those people who relate directly to it are likely the ones who think its most sad

Yeah I agree. Scanlan's backstory is definitely not the most depressing in the group (though it is sad because DnD). His current story culminating in what happens in the near future is a lot more impactful, which I assume is what people actually mean, but I wouldn't consider that backstory.

Top 10 Vox Machina Beast Mode Moments... This would easily be #1. Yeah, the original take on this battle was also quite frantic... but this? Far superior. Also, gods damn it, the Matron needs to STOP spooking Vax into walking away. Then again, she's also not TALKING, and Vax isn't answering because he doesn't understand the visions. So he's only making this harder on himself. Why must gods be so damn cryptic?! Still, kudos to Keyleth for beginning to embrace her feelings for Vax. Last season it was Vax pining for her, and now the roles have been reversed. And they even made the REVEAL at the end just as shocking as it was in the campaign. You love to see it. I will say this: the last two episodes are gems. Can't wait for the reactions to those. And at least they used the Fey Realm time dilation well in a narrative sense.
