Today, we’re going to talk about the most powerful adaptogen in the world: ashwagandha.
An adaptogen is something that helps you cope with stress and helps your body adjust to its environment.
Ashwagandha has a lot of benefits, but we’re going to focus on how it can help you adapt to stress. Ashwagandha has helped many people feel calmer and like they can cope with stress easier.
Ashwagandha helps control the HPA axis, which is the communication between your hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenals. These hormonal communications help the body adapt to a stress response.
Once the communication is complete, the hormone is supposed to lower back down, but with chronic stress, cortisol never goes back down and is chronically elevated. Ashwagandha can help reduce these hormones.
Cortisol isn’t a bad thing. It doesn’t cause stress-it’s adapting your body to a stress state. But, it’s not healthy to have your body in a state of chronic stress and chronically elevated cortisol.
Potential benefits of ashwagandha:
• It helps lower cortisol in the AM
• It helps lower DHEA (a precursor to cortisol) in the AM
• It helps raise testosterone (stress lowers testosterone)
• It helps increase endurance
• It helps increase strength (stress may cause weakness)
• It has shown significant improvements in emotions

I took Ashwagandha for about 2.5 years. I can honestly say that it helped me when I have been a de facto caretaker of 3 family members who had dementia. It took the edge off where I felt calm under very trying circumstance. I recently read that studies claim that it is safe to take, but that there were no known studies for long-term usage. As a result, I discontinued taking it about 2 months ago and have felt very stressed and unable to sleep at night. After seeing this video, I have decided to resume taking it again. Thanks Dr. Berg.

@@youngmingo103 I don’t remember much but I remember him being a very volatile person and today I think Incan safely say he had bipolar disorder. When I think about him today and from what I have heard from the family grapevine, he would get very anxious and stressed out about any little issue. One common thing I have heard about him is that he is not a person who can handle pressures of life. Be it small or big. I have heard that he would worry a lot about the future and be sad and angry about his past. He was an intelligent man and this Incan attest for, but his emotional intelligence was very poor from what I gather. At that time we had a lady help in the house. She was actually adopted by our family. She did something wrong and my uncle threw boiling water on the lady and my dad jumped in and slapped my uncle. At the same time he was very caring and patient with animals. So these are the things I remember about my uncle from my childhood. They did take him to lot of doctors but one constant in the morning and probably in the evening is what I mentioned above. I don’t recall seeing any instant reaction or change but I do know he was given the portion consistently everyday.

I started using this when doctors wanted to put me on all these synthetic hormones and anti-anxiety drugs for my mood swings and anxiety. The symptoms from those drugs were terrible. So I quit them. I also have issues where my body attacks itself (immune system attacks my nerves) when I experience high levels of stress for long periods. So ashwagandha is the best thing ever. Helps me get to sleep and quiets my brain. My dad was diagnosed with cancer recently and we almost got kicked out of our house and my brain and body is chilling with this . We don't find homeostatis word in ayurvedic literature because it's not in English and does not have Greek origin. But ayurveda clearly mentions its benefits and effects on human body. Only because of our collective amnesia we are leaving such knowledge and finding such repackaged information as great. Definitely we need more new research but the west has yet to properly acknowledge the traditional knowledge which forms the basis for such research. It's a disservice to the Indian heritage.

I find this helped me years ago as well. But over time I have realized how much of my levels of stress have so much to do with how my brain is hardwired. Healthy eating is key and supplementation for a boost but it also has to go hand in hand with how you process the world and how you allow yourself to think. There is so much out there to process - more than ever before and it’s no wonder we all have such health issues with what we consume and what we mentally process

Since people have been sharing their own experiences with it, I'll give mine. I took it for anxiety as well as trying to reduce cortisol and indirectly raise testosterone. I learned not to take it unless I'm feeling highly anxious or stressed because if I took it on just a regular calm day I would start to feel emotionally numb. It also increased aggression (Not to an unsafe degree) and helped me to be more assertive. It also increased libido a bit too much for my liking. So, I'd recommend taking it if you struggle with anxiety, stress, low libido, etc but also keeping in mind side effects and probably restrain from taking it too often and save it for days when you really need the boosts.

Did not know about the libido boost! Thank YOU ⭐
@Jack29245
@Jack29245 2 жыл бұрын
@@narcissusnarcosis614 I believe it to be an indirect benefit from the lowered cortisol. Less Cortisol the less testosterone is suppressed and thus the higher levels result in higher libido, so it depends on your situation and how your cortisol levels are messing with things. You may not get much of an effect, you could even get a more radical effect than me, as I said the boost was a bit too much for me.

So glad you did a video on this. I developed severe anxiety around 2020, I started working remote, caught Covid, and had a bunch of other things happen. I also developed tinnitus in my left ear that made everything twice as worse, especially working in my quiet house! I started IF and also started ashwaghanda at about the same time and they both changed my life. I didn’t want to take strong meds for my anxiety and after a few months, the fasting and ashwaghanda started to take effect and I began to feel like a normal person, I was able to sleep, and able to sit in a quiet room without going crazy. I highly recommend ashwaghanda for anyone who is struggling with anxiety

I have started to take a Vitamin D & C supplement as well as Omega 3. I am slowly starting to feel better but it's a slow journey. I also make a Berry smoothie everyday and I'm trying some Yoga but my body is still so stiff and sore from the stress. My Herbalist recommended Ashwaganda which I bought yesterday funny enough so I'm also going to take that as well as Magnesium, hope I'm doing the right thing as I'm determined to feel better and get some better quality sleep.
