Back in the day, when a SNES game came out, the reason you wanted to buy a SNES console was because they were newer, bigger games that the original NES couldn't play. The games required a new system. But now, the consoles are so powerful that you can still make games for the PS4 all day long and there is no reason to buy a PS5. You have to make games that run exclusively on the new hardware so that people will buy the new hardware. The experience is supposed to be something such that if you are playing a PS5 game, then that game can't run on a PS4.

This IS the worst and honestly I cant see it getting any better. These companies and some developers are greedy af! They forgot what it was like to create and put out a COMPLETE game without all the micro transactions, etc. Bring a system back with cartridges so we can feel like we own what we purchase or just physical media and not straight digital. Consoles aren't consoles anymore, but rather extremely restrictive PCs that lack customization options. IMO consoles should play offline features of games out of the box with no patches/updates, split-screen local multiplayer should be a given where possible, transferable data via memory cards (so you can bring your full Tekken roster to a friend's house) and PHYSICAL GAMES. Xbox is more interested in developing gaming services and swallowing the industry to ensure a monopoly. I've heard rumours they want to acquire Nintendo. PlayStation has ZERO respect for their brand's history. Can you imagine an NSO type service for PSN? PSP, Vita & 1 - 4 library extensively covered. Classic editions of past PlayStation console's controllers with modern compatibility available to buy online? That would be the bare minimum of what I'd expect when paying for PSN. But they'll probably never do it. I think it's going to take PlayStation going the route of Sega for the brand to become even a shadow of its former self.

This console generation actually made me decide to switch to pc. We are just now starting to stop “cross gen games”. There’s been no absolutely amazing games that made me think “wow I totally could only play this on this powered hardware”. My ps5 has problems with its hdmi port, the special pa5 ssd expansion I bought for it randomly bricked itself, games and applications constantly crash. All in all console gaming doesn’t feel like the cheaper or more simple option anymore. And exclusives aren’t anything amazing and the ones that are always end up on pc anyways. I’ve grown up playing PlayStation but this generation really made me realize that pc might honestly be the better route

I will never give nintendo credit till they change their business practices. They still selling you a 7 year old console at full price and the games on that console are full price no matter how old. They even will resell you their old games from older consoles for full price too assuming they even care to bring back old titles. Nintendo not a huge supporter of game preservation. Don’t even get me started with their crappie online service.

Back in the 1980's and 1990's each console was different and had different CPUs and other hardware that wasn't directly compatible with each other. You could port one game to another console, but you had to actually do the port. Now-a-days we have more standardized CPUs and software. This means that whatever game you are making, most likely its compatible with all of the current gen consoles. Also for PS5 and Xbox Series X, these consoles arrived during the pandemic and due to supply chain issues, even if you wanted to buy one, you couldn't find one in any of the stores.

I don’t understand why games being on PC would devalue their presence on console. I have a PC and I love PC gaming, but not everyone wants to deal with the price, troubleshooting, upkeep, hardware upgrades, launchers, and other complexities that come with PC gaming.

This is why the Sega Dreamcast may be my favorite console of all time. It's the perfect blend of both 5th gen and 6th gen and soo many quirky unusual games that aged beautifully. Last console I ever bought was the 360 and I still play it at times and collect games for it. I noticed gaming going downhill since 2013, and it's only gotten worse today. Seems like there's no incentive to pick up a PS5 or Series X since all the exclusives can be played elsewhere and asides from better graphics, gaming hasn't changed much since 7th gen except for DEI propaganda and ways to nickle and dime you. Even the PS4/One gen was a disappointment with the exception of Falllout 4 and RDR2. If I do go back to modern gaming, I'll go for the Switch 2 and maybe a gaming PC for games with extensive needs. God I wish Sega makes a new console.

I used to be a Nintendo fan but after being bullied because of it I switched to PlayStation and received a PS5. However, I don't play on it as much as I wanted to because something about it just feels empty. I might switch back to Nintendo someday. I agree I picked up a PS5 a few months ago and it seems all of the games I've been playing are ps4 games with 1089 upscaling. Dead space, returnal, a plagues tale reqium, Allan wake 2, stellar blade are really the only games that I own and play on the PS5 that I couldn't get access to on the ps4. There should easily be 20 plus standout titles in the ps5 catalog by this point in the systems life cycle. Only thing I'm looking forward to is mgs snake eater which is supposed to drop late this year and gta 6 which is multi-platform and that's slated to release late 2025-2026.

After playing FFVII and FFXVI I can say the 500+ dollars was worth it. Alongside the new Yakuza games. There’s games you’re just too lazy to find them and to actually enjoy them. I rather have quality games like mentioned than quantity.

Satoru Iwata famously said that as consoles become more complex, development time and cost for games would continue to go up and he was completely right. It feels like the 9th generation has barely started and there's hardly any actual exclusives available on PS5 or XBX. Meanwhile, the famously "underpowered" Switch has had a steady stream of games with what feels like a new first-party game every month. This is the reason why the Switch continues to see sales and making it as the #3 top selling of all time because theyre doing their own thing not worrying about graphics or performance and just gives out exclusive games. Meanwhile, people out here are always begging for exclusives to cease to exist and want everything to be multiplatform, or mainly to be on PC. We need a reason to have exclusives to make sales for the consoles, not just for the sales on the games. Its why Xbox is still behind because A) Their consoles have never sold well except the 360. B) They stopped making exclusives. C) They're buying up companies and tearing it apart simultaneously. D) They're focusing too much on the digital media via Gamepass. PS5 as well needs to keep their 1st party exclusives as it is, not pander to western influence so much, and not have games on PS4. It is time that people need to realize that PS4 is pushing the PS5 behind and if they want to make the sales for both games and console, they need to stick to putting games only on PS5 and not for PS4. Nintendo doesn't try to be something it's not. It knows its limitations. Indie devs port from pc to a handheld format. Fun is the focus! Ps5 has the same issue as the ps3 did later on, when they removed ps2 game compatibility. Xbox360 came out earlier if I remember right, so more people rolled with the 360, and just felt like a more quality machine (i was a ps fan, but 360 with oblivion and halo was the goods). The library for ps3 also felt so small compared to the 360 because of the console release times being a while apart. The time to develop these hyperrealistic graphical games takes a looooong time, and the fun part doesn't matter. Gaming has kind of lost its way (except for indie titles).

There is absolutely no reason to have a console anymore none. Just get a PC u will enjoy way more. This may be a bit hyperbolic but this console generation is really the FOMO generation imo. Because the pandemic (and scalpers) really had people scrambling to have a new console asap. I remember the big game EVERYBODY was supposedly playing before for several months before the PS5 and Xbox Series consoles dropped was Animal Crossing and the Switch was selling like hot cakes because of it. I tried to get one that summer and I couldn’t find it anywhere in store or online. Then when the new consoles dropped? Forget about it! Remember when Sony made the announcement as to when people could start making PS5 preorders and Walmart said “screw all that” and opened up their preorders like 6 hrs early? I took a power nap right after the announcement and by the time I woke up, all the preorders were sold out. My brother called me the next day talking about he managed to preorder one and I completely missed out. Hell, I still don’t have one but it’s because I got an Xbox Series X and have been happy with it and game pass; I don’t even want a PS5 anymore but have been on the fence about either getting a Switch now or waiting for Nintendo to announce when its successor will drop🤔

I just thought I'd been disconnected the news about gaming for this generation as I used to stay quite updated on the newer releases last gen even though I only had the Woi U from that generation and mostly would just replay older titles. Turns out I wasn't as disconnected as I thought, it was just that nothing happened.

Yeah, this year everyone wants that trickling money that's meant to last forever, BUT they have to go at it in a way that makes sense for you to buy their service, you can't just say here is the subscription service and not have anything in it... [I mean yo could do that but that's just dumb thinking everyone is going to jump in just cause] I know a lot if them think that they should just make profit changes but cutting out all the teams and ties you have just to make more money that'll get you nowhere if you don't have the TEAM to make the games you've payed them for, now I know what they thinking "I can up-charge and payout more for less" though it don't work like that and they know it.

2020 I decided to hold off on upgrading. 2022 I saw no reason to upgrade but I DID buy a Nintendo switch. 2024 situation the same. I personally agree and disagree. The PS5 gen so far has been better than the first half of the PS4 gen in my opinion. With a family and a full time job, I don't have a huge amount of time for gaming, so I'll always have a huge backlog of games to be playing. I'm actually struggling to keep up with all the new games that release. Add the fact that the PS5 plays crossgen games and most backwards compatible games better than the PS4, it becomes a no brainer for me. I've enjoyed the time I've spent playing first party and third party games on my PS5. If I didn't have a backlog and had a huge amount of time for gaming, I might feel differently about this. As far as exclusive games going to PC are concerned, I couldn't care less about that. It means nothing to me. I'm not willing to spend the money on a highend PC that'll be strong enough to massively outperform the PS5. I like the console experience. My Series X was a dumb purchase as it never gets used. Nintendo style games have zero interest to me. Could this gen be better, in terms of AAA game output? Yes. A big reason for that is game development time is longer in general now. Covid also added about a year and a half to most games that were in development at the time. Could this gen be better in terms of game quality? Well, that depends on how you measure quality. You yourself seem to be somewhat of a fan of Gamepass, whereas Gamepass has zero value to me. Maybe, I'd see it in a better light if I was a fan of first person shooters or Forza type of games. The Indiana Jones game was the only thing I was really looking forward to on Xbox, but since they shown that gameplay, I'm no longer interested. Overall, I'm happy with my PS5 as I like the first party games and it's where I play the third party games. I'm not happy with my Series X, and I'm glad I never bought the Switch. Look, I get it, people are not happy, and that's very understandable. A bigger issue I have with the gaming industry right now has nothing to do with console generations. It has to do with the fact that devs always seem to want to shoehorn certain things into their games, so they can appeal to a "modern audience".

My hope for the new nintendo console is that they implement a party system mechanic. Something innovative and simple like a throwback to the 360 era. Or just put discord as a main feature in the console
