Despite what the title says, people still don't seem to realize that "This Is" an Aslan song. This was covered as a tribute to Aslan's frontman, Christy Dignam, who was going through cancer treatment at the time.

U2 never gets old....just, BETTER. U2,..........greatest rock band........EVER. Bono's voice, one of it not THE most full of expression EVER. The irish do a lot of things good. They make music GREAT. Eddie Van Halen's not the only one who reinvented the guitar, The Edge, David Howell Evans did too. U2 made and are still making rock music the greatest IT IS AND WILL EVER BE.

fair play to bono and the band for paying tribute to a great singer and band, Aslan. from what I know christy & bono grew up not far from each other around the same time period. 2 fabulous bands, 2 fabulous singers.

They actually hated each other, quite a history... U2 were threatened by them... It was a North/South Dublin divide... This cover was done because the Aslan singer got sick.

I for one appreciate the fact that U2's cover here helps spread the beauty of Christy Dignam's singing. Sad that I never heard him live, I nonetheless look forward to getting more acquainted with his bell-like voice and powerful lyrics in the near future through recordings. Meanwhile, I also really enjoy this version by U2. It's so important to keep empathy alive in our hearts! And to keep love as the last word for everything we see, think about or do. Cheers, U2 and RIP. Christy.

I will say, U2 leads the way, surpassing all bands in their own ways and uniqueness, styles - everything, U2 loves what they do, you can see they are still passionate and hungry, I disagree with bono's policies and such but love him as a musician-you can criticize things about bono, the band, etc. but you really can't say anything about them as a band AS A WHOLE, because they are tremendous example of four friends, who were friends way before they were a band, and still friends, and this is what you see shine through greater than even their music-well, their friendship is seen, heard, felt IN their music-each person intimately involved, when you have this kind of combination, it can't be beat, there's no telling how long a selfless band can go on..............

Just to clarify: This is a cover of a tune by the band Aslan. A lot of you seem to be under the impression that this is a new U2 song from the forthcoming follow-up to (the wildly underrated) No Line on The Horizon. It isn't.
@wonderman81749 жыл бұрын
No Line On the Horizon, theres just not words to describe it......incredible, deep, profound, it's one of those U2 albums that you have to be a really bright, insightful, deep person yourself (like real true U2 fans like from the 80s are) to appreciate and understand it, there are so many pop and bubblegum fake wannabe U2 fans who didn't grow up with them, punk assholes wannabe fans of today, that dont really know nor understand who U2 was is and where they're going, sadly, these morons are in the majority, I lived U2, grew up with them, still love records over cds anyday, I admit, they are not the U2 I loved, but I still see remnants of what made them great, and it was never money, or success, or anything of the sort. People, so called fans etc are pitifully shallow today, I laugh cause most of them are dumbasses that want to lecture me about U2, music or anything..........wow, im so glad to know that 'everybody's a know it all' today..................
