That delay is normal in these transmissions. It’s not a symptom of failing transmission

When my 2007 trans went out, it started slipping and then would grab and bark the tires. Finally, it just wouldn't move in 1st gear. To get it home, I reversed up a hill. I put it in first, and held the rpms at around 1500. When I shifted into 2nd while it was rolling, it took second gear and kept going. If you are looking to rebuild it, there is a guy in Murfreesboro that built mine for under $800. That was removal, rebuild, reinstall, and fluid.

The jmod was engineered by the very guy who helped design the 4r70. These transmissions shifted slower and softer due to comfort and durability concerns ie u joints, motor mounts etc. The slow shifts represents slow clutch fill times which created excess heat, wear and slippage. The line pressure is controlled by the pcm and influenced by a few sensors such as the maf and tps. The jmod would be making specific existing feed holes bigger for quicker shifts. And removing a accumulator spring for a firmer shift. Quick and fi means less slippage and heat, less fluid overheating. Also add a trans cooler and these transmissions will go for a very long time. Tccoa has good instructions on this. Use mercon v or mercon lv is only to be used 98-2011 2005-2011 mercon lv

The 4R70Ws are strong Transmissions Heat And Over-stress kills them. Crown vics are huge😂

As soon as my 2006 crown Victoria hit 100,000 miles, the transmission went out. I definitely experienced the limp mode and the supercharger affect. LOL, $1400 later I got a complete rebuild. Now she just purrs like a kitten all day.

Ever since I bought the car, it has slipped a little in between 3rd and 4th, stalled occasionally at red lights, stalled occasionally if i didn't let it warm up before putting it in gear, even going over bumps in 4th would make it fall out of gear... I thought, hey, old, heavy car, that's how it is and lived with it. Had a tech at Ford tell me that the check balls in the valve body go out over time, so I threw in a valve body. Well, after that, slipped and clunked off the line, very hard shift and clunk going into second, from 3 to 4 the rpms would redline during shift, and in 4th the rpms would surge about 500 or so with no change in speed. I bought a new torque converter HOPING that was the problem... still messed up. I bought a remanned trans that I will be installing tomorrow, and it couldn't have come at a better time. Yesterday, it slipped so bad off the line that I got a wrench light and a code for "Gear 1 incorrect ratio" and went into limp mode. Luckily I keep a scan tool in the car with me, cleared the code, and got it home

A good rule of thumb where I live is "if it's a P71 the transmission is shot"

Yo Mr. Random I Have been a follower And a supporter for a very long time now and you've helped me through quite a bit with my 2008 P71 Recently I fish tailed and spun into 360 towards oncoming traffic My engine was revving but the car wasn't shifting when it caught gear all of a sudden the tires screeched and I spun out I took it to a few mechanics and none were able to diagnose the issue I was wondering if you had any ideas it only shifts into reverse won't go into drive ect..

I ran my crown vics trans out of fluid while driving ten miles got the wrench light and it was shifting so terribly. Filled it back up w fluid and the trans was good as new

Just replaced my transmission with another vic transmission from California Ford dealer well friend of family recommended it.it apparently it’s from a good department also had to wait since May it is right now June 28 so I had a rental for that time being , but my grandma ke had a slight delay in shifting from park to reverse but shifted like a dream while driving.

Having trans issues in my 07 with delayed shift, slip, etc. No wrench light though.

👋 what I like to know is how to run the transmission oil all the time to run cooler, bypass or delete the thermostat on the transmission on a 08 crown Vic. The reason I ask is because I have a 2015 Yukon that I have deleted the thermostat to keep the transmission oil running the hole time and now it runs 40 degrees cooler is there a way to do this delete or bypass on a 08 crown Vic transmission?? I have shudder around 35-40 which is normal but I also have a bit of shudder around 60. I jus thing her but doubt trans fluid/filter has ever been done. This should fix my issue right?

Hey man my buddy picked up at 2000 come to a stop it’s like it’s just sitting there you have to bump the throttle and then it kicks back in gear really hard Feels like the damn transmission’s gonna drop out of the car huge difference compared to my 07

My 01 seems to go in and out of OD when I’m at low rpm. And 2 times in the past 20k miles the OD light flashes when cruising on the highway. I change the fluid and didn’t change anything I’m thinking maybe the filter is restricted. That’s next on the list

I just got a 07 and it runs pretty good but I was jus backing out of driveway and it’s like slipping in reverse one second it working next second my reverse is like neutral then it give me the lil wrench but goes away after I turn off. It also got engine lights guy says it’s from when they change odometer.

Can a THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR cause these same symptoms? WRENCH Light comes when I try to go into gear for too long - as in I'm trying to get it going by hitting gas (RPMs higher and higher) then it threw a wrench - wrench goes away after I turn the car off and then back on... also I can't even get into 1st gear... you're lucky to be in LIMP mode - I can't get ANY movement ... REVERSE works though... I think it's a TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) or TCM (Transmission Control Module) - I wish mine had a "limp mode" - transmission slipping - 2006 CVPI

My transmission was slipping too and I did sparkplugs and ignition coil packs and it's shifts smooth now. No issues

So I guess you must have a problem with the direct clutch cause that is for 3rd gear. Or the intermediate stub shaft broke or stripped out the splines on the direct hub. Last 2 are very common with this trans.

I'm trying to find out if I can have a trans from a 2005 F150 rebuilt with HD goodies and swapped into my 2006 PI.

May I ask quick question about a crown Vic problem I’m having? If any knows. My Vic is having a bad fuel smelll like I mean bad carbon dioxide smell. Not throwing any codes! I feel like it was an exhaust leak but where? Maybe on the side of exhaust out of the Motor??

I have a 04 it has a delay sometimes when it want to and sometimes take long to change the gears but been doing this since I brought it on October 11 and already put 15k miles been doing that since that day and I been putting transmission fluid which fix it better also around 40-50mph my around that gear it be shaking front and backward if Yk what I mean been doing that too and when I press the gas when it does it stop

My 06 vic just threw a p1783 code. I hope i caught in time just replace the previous trans thinking it was about because of the over heating issue, now the brand new trans going through the same issue. Going to get a trans cooler thrown on and hope for the best.

Like the video, I have a 2006 p-71 and have changed practily everything on the engine with no impact, my problem is that at red lights and when decellerating the car stalls, but will start right back again, i heard that it could be my tourque convertor, car has 124k miles just a baby got it 44k 10 years ago, can honestly say never changed trans fluid since i had it ... any help anyone ?

My 2008 p71 got the wrench lite in Dec 2019 had to have it replaced.

Sorry to Vent but God Damn it!!! My 1998 just lost the transmission and I have just invested 1500 in the car to sell it. I'm seriously depressed and just purchased the 2nd Incorrect transmission. I can't get the right one from the Junk yard. They have sold me incorrect ones. But why is there 4 different transmissions available for this year??? OMG I am in Ford Engineering HELL. Insane!!! I guess I have to 1500 for the work and rebuild and try to get 2500 for it. Better some money than no money.

Dude, opportunity missed. This would have been the perfect video to pivot into the advantages of 5 speed swapping your panther car and explain all of the many advantages of it. Not the least of which is the better gearing in the tr3650 which allows faster acceleration, plus the fact that you lose less horsepower and torque through manual trannies which translates into more power and torque at the tires. It's a win win. Nonetheless, good info in this video.

My 2011 p71 has been misdiagnosed 3 times and my toronto mechanics dont know whats wrong...i told them dont be too hard on yourself they call the Crown Vic the Buggatti of the west cuz they are so complex and rare just like an exotic 😐 anyhow they cant fix it. My abs light is on My parking brake light is on My engine light is on My headlights dont work but on some settings one works My passanger airbag is always off My overhead light will stay on permanently if i dont remove the bulb They have replaced the battery, the alternator, the lighting control module, the gauge cluster STILL NO DIFFERENCE What is wrong with it? My 2011 CVPI begins to drive in 1st then kind of backs down for just a second then goes back up and then normal driving. Is this a tranny sensor or internal solenoids that need replacing? No engine lights btw.

My car, dubbed Queen Victoria, is an ass. She has numerous problems and likes to sound like shit, but multiple mechanics have said she's just grumpy from sitting in a yard (I rescued her) for over a year or more. Lots of driving and fluid changes have gotten her to a better operating place, but there's several other things, probably small, needing to be fixed. *Sigh*

My 2007 grand marquis only drives in overdrive without the transmission slipping from 3rd to 4th gear. Driving on the highway, I'm usually at 3000 rpm doing 70mph with overdrive engaged. If I shut it off the rpms will almost redline before banging into the next gear. Could it be the solenoids?
