Ichiro coulda hit 300 home runs if he wanted. Dudes an icon

This argument is so pathetically dumb. No he couldnt or he would have. Dudes obp, and batting avg for his career is lower than guys like Aaron, mays, musial, etc who all hit for a ton of power and avg

Ichiro was very good but no one else gets nearly as much mileage out of people talking about stuff he could have done, but didn't do
@LeFarmer222 ай бұрын
@@n8_n You could be very correct, we’ll never know. But I watched him take BP numerous times and he out homered everybody on both teams every time. And not lil baby dick shots, he hit bombs. I know it’s just BP, but I’ve never seen anyone else besides Bonds and Big Mac do what he did in BP. Wish he would’ve entered some derby’s just for fun. And he had ~120 as it is. If he were playing in the launch angle, swing out your ass every single time, he easily would have hit another 10 a year. Thats all he would’ve needed. But we’ll never know…

Some hitters just dominate certain pitchers. For Buehrle, he couldn't get Ichiro out. For Greg Maddux, it was Tony Gwynn.
@michaelwicklund2 ай бұрын
I mean no one one could get Gwynn out dude was a beast. If he had natural power in his frame he could be up there as one of the greatest all time I know many view him as one of the best but he would’ve been up there in the goat debate if he did what he did with 25-30 hrs a year guy.
@mrmacross2 ай бұрын
@@michaelwicklund My reply got lost in the KZfaq AI ether. Anyway, put it this way. Gwynn's lifetime batting average was .338. His batting average against Maddux was north of .400. Quoting MLB's website, "That's easily the highest average against Maddux for any player with at least 70 plate appearances." So Gwynn hit better against Maddux than he did against the average MLB pitcher, or even a lot of bad ones.

Here is just a fact. 33 players have had over 3,000 hits in the 148 year history of baseball. 26 of them are in the hall of fame. The only ones who aren't, were involved with steroids or cheating in some way in the eyes of the MLB. Not only did Ichiro have 3000+ hits, he debuted at 27. He played NINE years in Japan before coming over. He could have had over 4000 hits.

Seven of those nine was one the best player there. In 1994, he was the Nippon League MVP and played 6 more seasons.

This was a great game for him but it illustrates why he’s not an top tier all time great. He could have walked, but instead fouled away bad pitches he didn’t have to swing at- hence his .355 career OBP- which is not good enough for a batter who averaged an embarrassing 7 HR/year as a right fielder.
