I haven't done a POV for a while. This one was a little different as I wasn't with Sarah, but my mate Gary Lashmar. Gary's channel is / @lashmar
Throughout the video I talk about my techniques and thought processes to give you an insight into how I work on the street.

Great video! I haven’t done a lot of street photography in the last few years, as I haven’t been close to a city to do the work. But several years ago I lived in San Francisco, which is an ideal city to do this kind of work. My technique was very similar, walking through the city and moving towards the action rather than wait for people to come to me. After a while , you can develop lighting reflexes and capture things that only come together for a fraction of a second. Again, great video and great work!

Great content and breakdown of your creative process. I wonder if you can enlighten me on one technical aspect. I’m a big fan of 28mm and I wonder how you achieve focus using 28mm on a rangefinder when using a wide aperture (f2-2.8)+ viewfinder. Do you still use the rangefinder to achieve focus/ or simply judge the distance?

When you're shooting monochrome, do you bunch together values or focus mainly on general shape language? Like color shooters are always looking for color harmony or hue echo and such. Do you "convert" colors to values and chase them.. or just kind of follow interesting subjects and then frame them by contrast?
@WalkLikeAlice
@WalkLikeAlice Ай бұрын
Good question. TBH, I've never really thought about it. I've shot predominantly in mono for my entire 35 year career. So I guess my eye is used to looking for things which interest it in terms of monochrome. I don't actively think "ooh this will make a great b/w shot" I've never done that.
@SourPlanet
@SourPlanet Ай бұрын
@@WalkLikeAlice Interesting. I shoot color, but only recently rangefinder. Prior I was shooting typical mirrorless and using JPG+RAW, then setting the JPG to monochrome and in the EVF I could see the world in monochrome. Coming over to OVF it's been interesting trying to weld shapes by value without the "cheat" of the EVF converting them to values for me. Bring a painter by trade makes it easier, but still a very interesting challenge. Anyway, I always like your value bunching and subject framing based on value contrast, so I wanted to pick your brain a bit. Sounds like it's a rather intuitive choice for you, built on years of building your eye.

Fabulous and informative video, thanks....I see that all the editing is with your Silverchrome presets, is there any way these can work with Photoshop or are there any similar presets that you know of for Photoshop, after years of using it I haven't got my head round Lightroom yet!
@WalkLikeAlice
@WalkLikeAlice Ай бұрын
If you load Silverchrome into Adobe Camera Raw you can use them there. If you shoot jpeg, you can open ACR from inside Photoshop and apply the presets there. I do this all the time with things like iPhone images.

@@WalkLikeAlice Thanks...I shoot Raw, load to Photoshop, and if converting to mono I edit with either Silver Efex or Camera Raw presets, then convert to jpeg, does it sound like I could use your presets in that process?
@WalkLikeAlice
@WalkLikeAlice Ай бұрын
@@mikesmithwick1570 So if you are going into ACR for the RAW editing, you can use SilverChrome when you are doing your edits. Lightroom is essentially Adobe Camera Raw with a file browser attached. There are a few changes to the user interface, but other than that, they are exactly the same apps. Silverchrome was designed and tested in ACR, long before it got to Lightroom :)
