In this video I give a behind the scenes look at how I go about my street photography while out on a photo walk. This was my first time visiting Manchester and while I only scratched the surface I came away with a handful of shots I'm really happy with.

KZfaq suggested you, I subscribed on the first video. Now you are being promoted all over my feed. I thought I was a bit of a street photographer. I’m not even out of the gate compared to you. I’m not binge watching because there is simply too much valuable information in each video to mémorise. LOVE the way you present, explain and speak in such a calm unexaggerated way. Brilliant

I've never been to Manchester, but watching this video of you walking the streets and doing street photography showed a few structures and buildings that are very similar to Berlin's streets. I live in Berlin. The shots under the rail bridges are so like a similar structure in Yorck Strasse Berlin. Those lovely boxed in oblongs of sunlight between each bridge make an easy frame that can work well with the brickwork. Cheers for the great video, and good commentary. Sean

I feel like when the scene is right but the shots are wrong (such as the tree area).. for me it really helps to step back and approach it as a cityscape instead. Let the setting itself be the subject instead of finding the composition within it. A lot of the time, when seen from a distance, it becomes part of a larger story. Just my two cents. Super fun video. The kind that makes you antsy when you watch it at the wrong time because you can't head straight out to shoot ha.

@@timjamiesonphotos i say that and see the photo at 14:15. oh man, if you remove the sign/lights, it is so much quieter. the colors/walls really take over then.

Greetings from India. Loved the video very much.lots of opportunities of street photography in India. But cities are too much crowded. I love wide. 85mm for street will be a good POV? What do you suggest?

Hello there! Thanks for tuning in. Sure you can use 85mm for street photography if you want to get more tighter-in shots as well as candid portraits :)

Hi Tim, just curious to know did you have to ask permission from those people you took photos of or is it ok to take pictures and use then because you are out in public place. It'll help me to know while I'm taking pictures. Thanks

Hey, no in the UK it’s perfectly legal to take photos of people in public without their permission, that’s the whole point of street photography!

I think i could read your street photo styles with using reflection framing, colour contrast. Since I'm using smartphone and main lense is equivalent to 26mm, some of your tele shot cannot be applied to mine unless i risk the deterioration of picture quality

I often use a wide angle lens and still make photos that are abstract, use reflections and colour contrast :)

Some good advice here, especially about shooting in different light. I noticed that all your photos seem to be at eye level and most had subjects walking away from you. They would be much better when facing forwards.

Hey, I try to avoid chomping as much as possible as you risk missing a shot or an opportunity when looking at the back of the camera :)
