Hayden looked just like in ROTS. Much better than the Kenobi flashbacks. The flickering into Vader was such an amazing visual effect. Younger Ahsoka did a great job. Greedily I wanted her to talk about broader topics with Anakin (mention Luke maybe?) but it was focused on Ahsoka which is understandable given its her show.

Now that... was amazing. Dialogue wasn't terrible for once. We actually explored Ahsoka's trauma, personality, and psyche. The flashback scenes were fan service that had a purpose and told a story that led to the proper characterization for Ahsoka. Seeing her laughing, smiling, and have this sense of optimism was all I was looking for. And that amazing white cloak and new headband! Best Ahsoka outfit followed by the Siege of Mandalore one.

@@stevenwoods8463 Notice, through out the episode, they don't just call back to random scenes, When they went back to the clone wars, it shows ahsoka's guilt over the lost of clones, .Anakin tells her that he's taught her everything he can, trained her for everything he could, "But this is war" he says, "and I need to teach you how be a solider" And in a war, what she chooses could decide if she "lives" or "dies" In the second scene, Anakin tries to tell Ashoka that's shes more than just a failure, he says " you are more than that because I am more" Anakin trying to show that both of them are more than their shortcomings But Ashoka says this : " yes you are Anakin, you are more powerful and dangerous than anyone could have comprehend" This line not only addresses Anakins dark side, but herself She's so regretful over her master's turn to be dark side, she not only feels guilty, but she questions even integrity of herself If the greatest man she knew could turn so easily, how she expect to be prepared, Yes there's fanservice in this episode, but that's not a bad thing mainly it addressed Ashoka's doubt and fear towards her master and herself Ultimately this episode is about Ashoka coming to terms with the past and herself

One thing I noticed in this was just how damn good Hayden’s choreography was. I like Rosario as Ahsoka, but you can clearly see the influence of Nick Gillard’s training he imprinted into the character of Anakin. After more than two decades he still moves so much “faster and more intense” than any other lightsaber wielding actor from the Disney era.

I also agree with your interpretation, I just feel that “live or die” kind of oversimplifies the lesson Ashoka is supposed to take from all this. Ashoka has never really been shown having an issue with living, but she has been shown struggling with the failures of her past and the legacy of failure she feels she inherited from Anakin. Yes, obviously in this moment she’s going to either “live or die” based on whether she can return to the real world, but I would’ve like her to verbalize what she plans to live for with this new lease on life and to explain how her feelings about Anakin have changed. Those discussions might come in a later episode though, so I’m waiting to see where Dave takes this.

This episode truly was able to convey just how young Ahsoka was during the war more than animation I think could. As a not clone wars fan the episode felt kind of like filler. Nor sure what the point of the Anakin stuff was. Just a bunch of flashbacks that had nothing to do with Trawn or this new galaxy. @@TyroneLTHonestly as a massive clone wars fan I was quite disappointed. The whole thing felt like a massive nothing burger. I was so curious to see what Anakin would do to finish her training, or what he would say when Ahsoka was clearly bothered by what he became, or what they would say about Ahsoka leaving the order since their only conversation about that was when he was Vader, or them talking about how Vader would have/ really has killed her. But they barely talked at all, they mostly just fought and I don‘t see how this did anything for her character when this should have been a major development. Visually it was amazing, I loved what they did with Anakin/Vader, but there was just nothing meaningfull behind it. And Ahsoka learning where Sabine is from the object just breaks the canon one more time, it‘s supposed to be a rare ability that you either have or you don‘t, and Ahsoka just pulled it out of her ass when she clearly didn’t have it before. If this is the only time we see Anakin and Ahsoka together again I can‘t believe they wasted it like this. They had so much meaningfull stuff to talk about but I guess they couldn‘t pull it off so we got a fancy flashback and lightsaber battles instead

Atleast Disney/Iger seem to have allowed Filoni enough leeway ad "Creative Freedom" to now do the rather unprecedented thing, by taking his overall story into a whole other *Galaxy*; allowing the potential for a all NEW CANON. This is one of the best Star Wars we've gotten. What made it so great was the story of Anakin and Ahsoka. Master and Apprentice. Seeing Anakin embody both sides of himself, the Jedi and Sith, was great to see. This is someone who doesnt run from the monster he was, the demon that was born on Mustafar. He has accepted his mistakes and now seeks to pass this lesson on to Ahsoka. Seeing her as a teen in live action really explains why she is how she is. She was a child soldier, taught to fight and kill. She keeps asking is this all i am? Will i fall like you? So, Anakin shows her the monster he was for 25 years of his life. He unleashes that and she is able to hold the blade to his throat. All she has to do to become like him is give in and let the darkness win. Instead, she tosses the blade aside. She has passed the one lesson Anakin never could. Ahsoka has learned to let go. And with it, comes the end of the lesson. "Is this all i am?" Only if you choose to be.

Young Ahsoka was perfection! The lesson he taught her was right on point…”Live or die.” That was the lesson that he always taught her, how to survive. And this particular lesson fit perfectly with the lesson he taught her in Tales of the Jedi against the clones…”Live or die.” It’s reminiscent of that scene in The Shawshank Redemption when Andy tells Red just before his escape, “Get busy living or get busy dying.” That’s what it boils down to, she had to choose to live, no matter what her past was and no matter what her future has in store for her. She chose to live and in doing so became Ahsoka the White.

As for the lesson I do believe it was Anakin training her to let go of her attachment to him and forgive herself as theres nothing she could have done to save him. And that she needs to CHOOSE to live for herself and her own destiny and not live in Vader's shadow. I also really love the Rebels callback when she said "I won't fight you" and Anakin replied "I've heard that before" which was during their encounter on Malacore in Rebels as Vader. So its interesting he has all his Sith knowledge as well as a force ghost too.

That's the feeling I get, from how similar it is to the Return of the Jedi Fight. Yoda tells Luke that he doesn't require any more training, but he has to face his father one more time in Return of the Jedi. In that confrontation, it follows similar beats as this one, reluctance to fight, a brush with the dark side, and ultimately mercy, while rejecting the dark.

Rather unfair on Rosario Dawson, and the way her Older Ahsoka was written. I mean obviously to be this stoic, more withdrawn, almost battle weary individual, older but also more wiser too, and ofcourse deeply affected by what happened to her old master and close friend - Anakin Skywalker.

Hey Thor, this episode actually reminded me more of the episode where Kanan Jarrus had his final Trial, since he also never completed his training..He also had to face flashes of his past in a test, while "physically" facing off against against the Grand Inquisitor, who revealed himself to be a Jedi Temple guard when he officially knighted him. When Kanan asked "What does this mean??" He said "It means that you are now what i used to be..Kanan Jarrus..Jedi Knight." We knew back then that it was a trial because the Grand Inquisitor dropped off a ledge into fire in the previous season, yet it was really cool to see him as he used to be,before turning to the Darkside.

As someone who grew up with The Clone Wars, I can't even begin to explain how happy I am. It's surreal. The visuals were a little scuffed, but the fact that they accomplished so much in a single episode of Star Wars TV is incredible. Especially de-aged Hayden, it was genuinely impressive how perfect he looked in that armor. However, I was a bit disappointed with Rex, despite him being one of my favorite characters. He looked amazing, but was criminally underutilized, and Tem Morrison's voicelines were too monotone IMO. Overall, it was amazing, and I can't wait for more

A few thoughts. There was so much more scope for Ashoka to try to understand more about Anakins turn to the Darkside. He's trying to give her a lesson, but the first thing she should have done was question his motives and why she should trust him etc. All in all it would lead to his flaws that she thinks she has, and they could fight whilst having a heavy and dramatic talk/argument around it. Rex could have piped in with a heartfelt comment about Jedi, their place and hope. It was almost there. It was a good nostalgia and the scenes were right. The dialogue lacked depth, for me.

I think the big lesson for Ahsoka was simply not to give up the fight because of the fear of losing the people she cares about. She experienced losing her Clone troops on Ryloth, being away on Mandalore while Anakin fell, and dealing with blaming herself for him becoming Vader. Anakin's lesson was a) showing that he's more than Vader and "there's still good in him," and b) that she has to keep fighting and pushing forward no matter what, because Jedi don't give up.

This is exactly what I expected. It's just standard Dave Filoni: Make mid show with mostly filler, and then get characters from other works that have unfinished business or moments we haven't yet seen, and make them interact to create that one good moment in the entire show that people will actually remember for a long time. Everything about Ahsoka and Anakin in this episode could've worked in complete isolation from the rest of the show, because it has nothing to do with it. This is about the girl we saw during The Clone Wars, and her master who we saw being redeemed in the movies. It's unfinished business in their relationship, and something Ahsoka needed to go through as a character at some point. It heavily reminds me of the Obi-Wan vs Maul duel in Rebels. It's a moment that works completely on its own, because all the heavy lifting to grow and develop those characters and get them to that point their lives, was done in a completely different show or movie. This is why I fully expect that the moment when Ahsoka and Luke first meet is gonna be great (if we ever see it) , but I highly doubt the show or movie surrounding that moement won't be mediocre. This is the peak of Ahsoka. This is the one moment that I'll probably rewatch from time to time. But I'm pretty sure the rest of the show will go back to being the same as it was during the first 4 episodes.

One of the things I really enjoyed about this episode (the best in the series so far, in my opinion) was that I was expecting the episode to end at a point that I thought would be premature and would annoy the hell out of me. (I never looked at the time bar for the episode.) Fortunately it didn't and left at the perfect time for the next step in the story. Just disappointed that Hera, Jacen, and Zeb (and The Ghost) were not along for the ride at the end. Now, in addition to Ahsoka's rescue of Ezra, we also need to further explore the incompetence of the New Republic Senate and how many Imperial infiltrators are holding senatorial office...

Every second it kept cutting back to Hera looking for Ahsoka, I kept yelling “no” - I didn’t want them to find her so we could get more of WBW, Ahsoka and Anakin. Hayden was absolutely brilliant. His lightsaber dueling was completely ROTS. They 100% nailed his look in all moments. The flashes to Vader were incredible. And Temeura as live action Rex!! But in the end, as many have already said, I don’t understand what the point was of the entire sequence. “Inside you is all of my knowledge?” Making the tough decisions? Ahsoka being willing to kill if needed? The end of it seemed unfairly abrupt, and the fact that the rest of the episode was again moving at a snail’s pace, back to the speed of Episode 1 and 2, had me beyond disgusted. I don’t have the energy anymore. The longer things dragged on in the second half, the more I yelled at the TV in disgust. The episode was amazing in some ways, and somewhat confusing in others, and maybe a bit slow paced again in spots. I was also a bit lost on the “lesson” or “meaning” of her interactions with Anakin. It was vague and used a very wide and large paintbrush but I suppose it’s hard to peg because there’s no defined or focused issue Ahsoka is struggling with beyond her struggle to connect with and train Sabine. Ahsoka did seem to make some kind of transition toward zen, represented by her apparel being more like her “Ahsoka the white” look and her seemingly content, accepting demeanour toward the precariousness of travelling with the whales and such. Anyone else mildly jarred by seeing her without any headdress? That was weird!

It would have made a lot more sense lore-wise, plus it could have been contextualized as a test to become a force ghoast (like Yodas in CW), with Obi-wan finally geting over his guilt that Anakin turned to the dark side (like Ahsoka did in this episode). This just shows you how much Filoni cares for and knows Star Wars, and how little the people behind Kenobi did.

Loved seeing Hayden, and it's the best Anakin has ever been... but there was nothing of worth discussed. The lesson is to want to live? When did Ahsoka ever say she didn't want to? What meaningless vague platitudes. How about having the entire episode dedicated to just Anakin and Ahsoka talking - she could feel some guilt over leaving Anakin and the order, and could blame herself partially for Anakin turning to Vader. She could ask him why he turned, and try to have him rationalize it. Then in return, Anakin could feel remorse than half his life was spent as Vader doing evil, but Ahsoka could remind him that his son was right that there was good in him, and he was redeemed and WAS the chosen one by defeating the sith and bringing balance to the force. We didn't get anything even close to anything profound, or anything that these characters actually would have talked about. I mean Vader killed her, until Ezra used this exact same world between worlds to change time and save her! Why would she not bring that up??

the name of the lesson was literally "live or die." i took the lesson to be that in order for her to live, she needs to let go of her fear of her legacy being only about war, and continue fighting. she asks anakin "what i want to stop fighting?" and he replies "then you'll die." in the next vision, she reiterates her fear of what her part in the legacy will be, and anakin says "you've learned nothing." ahsoka finally accepts this at the end when she tells anakin "i choose to live," meaning she's telling anakin that she will continue to fight, regardless of her fear. the message probably could've been made more obvious, but it's the for the audience to piece together!

It's always such a pleasure seeing Hayden Christensen again ESPECIALLY when you put a lightsaber in his hand. Truly he's unmatched in terms of live-action lightsaber wielding. And seeing the visible change come over Ahsoka at the end was lovely. Not just the white robes but like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders. I think Anakin's lesson was simply to accept the good and the bad as part of who you are and live on. As he said, she is all of him, all of his knowledge but that's not all she is. Vader wasn't everything Anakin was and so what happened to him isn't everything Ahsoka is either. She needed to accept it and choose to live on.

Reading thru other comments and watching other reviews, im under the impression that the lesson to learn is that ahsokas path and thus her apprentice's path (sabine) isnt one littered in death and the darkside. Yes it will have death and darkness and dangers. But that one can live and choose not to kill. One can choose what they will do. Ahsoka can live her life and "fight the good fight" and not be afraid of becoming a vader or creating the next one. At least this is my head canon, i do wish dave couldve better communicated what anakins lesson was or have ahsoka voice out her enlightenment moment better. If ahsoka in live action now has more of that spirit and life she "lost" from animated series, i will call it fine and be excited for her renewed character.

And yes I know Dee Bradley Baker does the clones in animation while Temuera Morrison does the clones in live action, I'm just really used to hearing DBB as Rex.

I haven't seen any comments about the realm they're in. To me it's not the world between worlds due to, there being no doorways or portals. For me it was the nether region of the force where she was taught a lesson and had the choice to live or die. She needed to understand that she was more than her past, and she needed to forgive herself and move on. It wasn't her fault that Anakin fell, it was always meant to happen.

As someone who has been a strong critic of Disney SW, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Just wish it, like every other episode, was longer!

Ok, first half of episode is terrific. Hayden looked incredible and yes, so much better than at the end of ep 4 which is super weird. But the new republic needs to sort it's self out. A crew is murdered, massive hyperdrives are stolen and they refuse to send anyone on a lead to investigate. Yet a general takes their personal private ship and a flight of Xwings follow her to said planet and the republic will send THREE of their fancy new capital ships to bring her in? Really?

The New Republic's inexplicably poor decision-making is because all roads less to the sequels, in which the New Republic is staggeringly incompetent.

I usually work out at home while watching shows, Ashoka included. Last night, when young Ashoka showed up I just put the weights down on the floor and sat my ass down to watch. It was a very nice moment 😊

The lesson she learned culminated when she threw the red lightsaber you could see the darkness in both of their eyes. Her throwing it away was her realizing she was him but the best parts and for him that was his final parting from Vader and his failures

The clone wars memories felt more like Anakin taking Ashoka through her own memories. And memories are never fully complete; their often foggy outside of the immediate details. In this case it was literally. And it was perfect.

Hey Thor, I must agree with you in every aspect of how I felt while watching this episode sing Anakin in his clone wars armor alongside a young Asoka with her green light saber, was everything I had hoped to see when the series was announced.

In Rebels, both Kanan and Ezra physically disappeared into the "visions" when they were in the Jedi temple on Lothal. I believe the same thing happened to Ahsoka. She was there physically until she learned the lesson and the Force sent her back. Also I see this as part of her Jedi Trials, her facing her inner darkness.

I loved seeing Post-Vader Anakin, him being able to switch between light and dark when needed with but a few breaths

He has fulfilled his destiny as The Chosen One and has replaced The Father. He represents the balance in the force so it makes sense that he can switch between light and dark

LOVED IT!! Anakin’s final lesson to Ahsoka was to *live* not just fight to stay alive. She had disconnected from everyone and everything out of her gears of turning into Vader that she forgot the lessons of the Jedi as Anakin had taught her. Despite her walking away from the Order, Yoda did say she was basically a ‘Knight’ when she did, and in many ways she embodied what a true Jedi was. Once she figured out the lesson, we saw true Ahsoka emerge, hence Ahsoka The White: full of life and with a better understanding of how to live, which will hopefully translate to better teaching Sabine how to connect to the living Force.
