I love appletun and it's ripen ability, definitely one of the coolest abilities they added this generation by far. Ripen has a ton of hidden potential like it actually doubles the effects on pretty much every berry including the rowap berry which doubles the damage the berry deals to the opponent. Rowap deals 1/8 the opponents max hp if they hit you with a special attack which is pretty meh, but thanks to ripen that damage is doubled to 1/4 of their max hp and appletun gets recycle. Ripen will unironically make rowap berry have a niche on appletun as a budget special rocky helmet once its released which is just so cool to me.

I love Appletun so much! He's so derpy and adorable and generous. He's just the perfect friend shape and he's so fun to use! Sadly I own Sword so I can't get one myself ;w;. I really want to shiny hunt this but I'll gave to wait for the event that gives me a single Sweet Apple so I can get it finally.

I love this kind of content where someone explains why pokemon are banned. And i know that there is the smogon article, but this way he shows visual example while also putting the pokemon in the contest of the tier it was banned, and most importantly is much MUCH more engaging than reading a 200 characters article(that could still be read if you are interested)

Added Appletun on my NU team recently 'cause I needed special defence and the typing. And I've fallen in love with this thing. Fantastic wall and looks like Soldier from TF2 had a baby with a pie.

This pokemon is not weak by any means. I mean, I got it in a semi-stall team in showdown, and this champ was able to tank hits from really powerful pokemons on the special side, and with aple acid was able to put the enemy in so much pressure, and this was in an OU format, even though I had the leech seed recover one. This pokemon really impressed me, and I kinda understand that this pokemon would be too powerful in lower tiers

Love playing with appletun in OU with corsola and tyrantitar as a defensive core, sadly the core lacks hazard removal and is very weak to toxic spikes

I'll be completely honest, at least they just say banned instead of "moved to Borderline". Which...was effectively a ban ("It's not good enough for the tier above, but too good for this tier.")

Appletun is my favorite gen 8 pokemon. Reminds me of my grandma's home made apple pie

I've been running a defensive Appletun. Max def and HP, Bold, with Dragon Pulse, Apple Acid, recover, and recycle. I use Thick Fat and an aguav berry just in case. It's been fantastic. The cherry on top? It is named Granny Smith and is shiny.

I used to hate it's design in the beginning because it is based on food But I have to say that it is one of my favorite new pokemon to use competitively And it is kinda cute when I take a moment to look at it 😅

Yeah that typing/ability advantage I think is the overall most dangerous thing to him. Just spitballing without looking at the chart he's basically resistant to the most common move types (grass, fire, water, ground, electric), and that in itself is huge and his biggest check is reduced to a regular check.

I have a fun Appletun story. Not competitively relevant though. I had just evolved Appletun and went int Hammerlocke’s cafe for the daily battle over a sweet only to realize I was a bit under leveled with my team. Alcremie and Slurpuff are shaking off everything I do and they sweep 3 team members! I have one really low health Pokemon and a really underleveled Appletun left. So I send out Appletun and use Apple Acid in a desperate move and it does far more than expected. Then when they chip it down with dazzling gleam it’s sitrus berry kicks in and almost fully heals it! So I use recycle and rinsed and repeated Apple Acid and Recycle to keep going long after my other Pokémon went down! In the end Appletun took down both Alcremie and Slurpuff on its own!

I have mine with leftovers, max Sp Def and max HP with Apple Acid, Body Press, Iron Defense, and Recover - it really does well in most situations

And now is outclassed by Drampa in NU (Pls RU players, make Drampa rise to that tier so Appletun can shine)

Appletun is far and away my favorite of the new Pokémon from Sword & Shield. I haven’t played the game in a while, and I still haven’t gotten into competitive battling, but I’d love to be able to make Appletun work on my team.

Hey Foo, speaking of Fishious Rend, how do you feel about the Dracovish suspect test? I support it since Dracoviah is too overcentralizing in the teambuilder. And people are already experimenting with Arctovish, including me. And Arctovish is just what Dracovish should've been, a nore balanced fish if you will. I use a set of max attack, enough speed so it hits 191 so it can outspeed walls that want to be faster than Conkeldurr, and the rest in special attack with Fishious Rend, Icicle Crash, Freeze Dry, and Substitute. Water Absorb and a Naughty Nature ensure and Heavy-Duty-Boots or Leftovers make it great for wallbreaking! And it counter Dracovish 1v1

Ran a curse Appletun with gyroball in Nu, it actually does lots of work

I used a Apple Acid, leech seed, recover, protect weakness policy set on the last IC and it was a monster once you eliminated the fairy on the opposing team. Would def take out the WP and add in leftovers or sitrus berry :) once you put leech seed on two pokemon theres no need to even attack lol

Appletun is truly an amazing mon, with thick fat you can invest in defensive EVs and give it weakness policy and fire and ice moves wont do much and give you an offensive boost. Its a really fun mon to use.

I originally thought Appletun would be a OU staple but then Dragapult, Kyurem and Clefable took control of the tier. Appletun is underrated and I hope it continues to climb the tier ladder.

Doubles Trick Room Appletun? I could maybe see also Skill Swap/Entrainment(?) Contrary + Draco Meteor (+Sp. Attack)

i use ripen and an aguav berry, with apple acid, recycle, amnesia, and dragon pulse, and the ripen berry effect is op using recycle in doubles

The thing gets Recycle and also has double effectiveness berries. Pluck seems to be a hard counter for it, but it seems pretty decent otherwise?

Foofootoo, I tried that Arctovish team. It's a decent team, but needs some fixes. My dream for Dem Arctovish is to be pulled out from PU. If you can, I would love to see a Arctovish video.

I got Master Rank in doubles battle tower two months in a roll using an appletun with weakness policy in trick room.

In OU I prefer to run iron defense, body press, recover, Apple acid. Appletun can set up on a lot of OU physical attackers actually, so this phys def oriented set really works.

How would thick fat negate the ice weakness since it’s 4X weak to ice? Wouldn’t that leave it as a 2x weak to ice and halves fire damage since fire normally does neutral damage to Appletun.

I've been using Appletun as my special defensive wall ever since the begining of the gen for my OU team. with a lot of people carrying fire type moves to deal with ferrothorn, is incredible how little damage Appletun takes from fire type moves with thick fat. and with leech seed and recover, is really hard to take down without super effective damage and even without phisical defense invesment, it takes very little damage from a fishious rend., so it can be switched in just fine

Would a trick room team be good or not

I want everyone to also know that appletun is also OP because: 1. The Ripen ability works with weakness policy 2. Curse and Amnesia to boost defensive stats and attack 3. Outrage and Facade
