How more teams haven’t adapted to the Brighton and Brentford methodology of moneyball is crazy! Spending big money hardly ever works out! Think Sunderland will be next to make their way up over the next 5 years doing the same!

All the best teams in the world spend huge money virtually every single summer. Lots of clubs want to be the next Man City or PSG or Red Bull Whatever and spend their way to the top. Not arguing against moneyball but Brighton and Brentford are not exactly winning the Champions League. Of course I'm not taking any shots at those clubs but just explaining why other clubs try to spend huge money. It doesn't always work out but neither does moneyball (Southampton).

The player can't rip it up. Neither can the club. But both parties can agree to change the contract if it suits them. Clubs absolutely can, and do, force players to fulfill their contracts, but it's rarely a good idea because the player will drop in performance (intentionally or not).

At Spurs our idiot Chairman Levy refuses to do this and runs down contracts. Somehow we signed a young Luka Modric for about £12m and he was on a 5 year deal of about £40k per week.... After about 6 months it was clear we had a world class player on our hands. Did Levy a) Tear up the contract and give him a big pay rise building the team around him....or b) Hold him to his contract until the last year when Real Madrid came in and forced Levy's hand... Real Madrid paid 4x that in his first contract with them. Levy is a disaster for Spurs.

@@kb5509 You do realise that Tottenham have a massive fanbase and are a huge club? When Levy took over the previous owners had mismanaged the club financially and Levy was VERY lucky that this century has seen a huge explosion in the global TV income for the Premier League. He has squandered this with poor decision making. One League Cup in 23 years. Is that success. p.s Tottenham had a few tough years in the late 90s but were near the top of the league from about 1980 to early 90s.

@@subculture2006There's 5 or 6 massive clubs in the premier league who have even bigger budgets than Tottenham. Think Chelsea, City and United for example. Tottenham regularly finish in and around the top 4. I think they've done okay. Next level means next level investment and obviously the owners ENIC don't want to do that. Levy owns 10% of the club and has done fiscally well on and off the pitch against huge oil-rich teams.

His decision making on all football matters has been generally appalling, whether hiring/firing managers, the club structure, the transfer market, when and when not to spend, and communication with the fans. There is a massive difference in transfer strategy's depending on your aims and targets . If Brighton wanted to challenge for the League what they are doing now will never ever work . The fact they don't wanna challenge allows them to go for the unknowns in the hope they manage to sell at a higher price .
@goldstoneghost2861

Brighton do want to win the league though. How do Brighton compete against the massively wealthy clubs in regard to wages, status etc when they have nowhere near the financial clout? They have to think differently to Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool etc. This can only be achieved by being attractive to future stars as a pathway to that global stardom. Top youngsters globally now see Brighton as the destination club because of the opportunities they offer, the attention to detail paid by the club and the planning in their development. Mitoma’s replacement is already there; Adingra. Gilmour was already there to replace Caciedo. O’Mahoney is being readied to replace Ferguson. Brighton know who will be going a year in advance and get their successor in before it happens. No release clauses mean they don’t get caught out. If ( a big if) Brighton win the Europa League or get UCL, things may change, but they can NEVER compete the same way as the big clubs. Just look at the mess Everton are in (and Villa were) by following this method.

Thats the problem with modern football. You're a mid table club, You FINALLY managed to sign an absolute gem in the market, 2 years later hes gone to a "big" club. Southampton great example a few years back. Lost all their quality players. Will no doubt happen to Brighton too. Only so many times they can sell a class player and manage to sign another one. Football would be so much better if world class players were spread out across more teams in the league.

One thing to think of about Brighton, is they only sell someone if there is a replacement already in house. Sold Trossard, because Mitoma was there, and had taken his spot, and Adringa was on the way. Sold MacAllister because we had Gilmour. Sold Bissouma, becuase we had Caicedo and so on... There is a plan. Otherwise, no reason to sell, despite all the plastic fans screaming on social media.

It's no coincidence that the owners of Brighton and Brentford are in the same business. In fact, the Brighton owner used to be an employee of the Brentford owner before going at it alone!
