The commentary is great though. And you're treating Larsen respectfully. As a Danish person, who had Bent Larsen as a childhood hero, sometimes "Fischer-Larsen '71" video commentaries can be a bit hurtful to watch.

People forget what an incredible achievement it was for Bobby to win the title and defeat the entire Soviet Chess system by himself.

LOL. Nobody forgets it, it's mentioned at every opportunity, and it isn't even true. Fischer was actually the best-booked player of his generation. He didn't write the books, he just absorbed them better than anyone else. Not since Steinitz, if not earlier, could any champion claim to have done it all himself. It is true that Fischer was the last of the so-called "Old School Champions", who worked mostly without a large entourage, and one of the last one to work without computer assistance. The Old School Champions definitely cut a more heroic figure than the modern ones, but they also don't win very often, which is why nobody plays that way today. Fischer-Spassky was the last hurrah for that crowd.

Fischer always put heavy pressure on opponents. He played the sharpest lines with both colors, and played extremely quickly. He could play positionally, tactically, and was an endgame monster. He towered above his rivals like no one else in modern times.

Well stated sir. He could play all aspects of chess better than anyone around and indeed he played extremely quickly. He was once asked why he never got into time trouble? He replied: "Then it isn't chess anymore!!" Wow, what would Bobby think about all the "time increments" today. Wait, What?Adding time to your clock while you are playing!? I wonder if he would again say: "Then it isn't chess anymore!!" Here's a thought: Bobby (in his prime!) vs Hikaru in BULLET! I think Bobby would love Bullet Chess!! Imagine how the pieces would fly!!!

Why are you not the most popular Chess channel ? I subscribe to several of the top names. But your videos convey the knowledge in an easy and entertaining way to understand. Agamantor is darn good too but I think you slightly edge him out. Plus your vocal delivery and emphasis help steer the consumption of the concepts you're explaining down the mental hatch. I've been watching your videos for months and just wanted to compliment your wonderful style. Please don't stop .... You make chess interesting and fun to learn. And I say thankyou!!!

By making the Candidates a set of matches instead of a tournament they get the ultimate challenger used to playing matches so they have a better chance in the championship match, whereas in the tournament format the only match they play is the championship one. This favors the champion who already has one match experience at the highest level. I think this advantage is worth at least 1/2 a point. Bring back the Candidate Matches!!

Fischer beat the weakest chess World champion Boris Spassky only 17 wins 10 losses! Capablanca would beat Spassky easily 8 wins 6 draws zero losses! Carlsen would beat Spassky easily 6 wins 6 draws zero losses! Carlsen 100xtimes better than blunder maker Spassky so Carlsen would win 30 times against Fischer!

If Fischer doesn't have the mental endurance or whatever required to hold the world title over multiple years, wouldn't Karpov, Kasparov, Carlsen, and Anand rank higher than Fischer?
@anderslarsen4412
@anderslarsen4412 3 ай бұрын
It depends on what you're measuring. Fischer's reign was definitely shorter than Anand, Kasparov, and Carlsen's, but no player has ever been so far ahead of his contemporaries as Fischer was when he was at his best. Not even Carlsen or Kasparov. The gap wasn't anywhere near as big.
@crushedscouter9522
@crushedscouter9522 3 ай бұрын
No. Carlsen wasn't world champ as long as Lasker. So by your logic, Lasker is better than Magnus. We all know this isn't true. Bobby came to the same conclusion as Magnus. Just much faster.
