It hardly makes a difference. You will have a headache of monthly limitations on the mileage etc. Further as per your calculations also the moment one wants to retain the car above 3 years then renting would become costly. Infact renting car option is more profitable for those persons who are employed in big companies at higher income tax bracket, there the companies often give option of car renting and they give a portion of salary towards that part and thereby reducing the in-hand taxable income to the employees. In that scenario renting will give you a considerable advantage.

I wanna mention some things 1) Zero dep insurance for a 10L car for second and third year is not more than 15k So total insurance cost for 2nd and 3yr would be 30k 2) Tyres and Engine wont be changed or anything wont happen to them in 3 years and normal service cost would be 10k max So cost for 2nd and 3rd year for service would be 20k max 3) 9L car depreciates slow. That means you you can sell it easily for 6L and if you adjust inflation it would be 5L This is my calculation Ex showroom 9L Down payment 2L Loan 7L Interest 70k for 3 year loan period Insurance for 2+3 year= 30k Service2+3 year=20K Total cost 20+30+70+900+100(registration and 1st year insurance)=11.2L You can easily sell it for 6L after 3 years Opportunity cost if you invest 4k which you will save if you dont rent 4*12*3(compounded and 10 percent interest Would be 1.59L) Money after selling car=7.59L Cost of owning car for 3 year would be 11.2-7.6 3.6L inflation adjustment around 1.2L Total cost of owning=3.6+1.2=4.8L Renting for 3 year 25k*12*3= 9L Inflation adj. 8.5L (Opportunity cost) Now that 2L invested for 3year compounded =2.66L Inflation adj.2.24 Cost of renting for 3 year= 8.5-2.25=6.25 + emotions of new car Clearly owning is better

I appreciate most videos which you create but this one is just incomplete. If you buy a car and own it, you can and mostly will sell it as well. And if you sell it even after 5 years, you might be able to sell it approximately at half the price you bought it for. But you can't do this for a rented car. And so, this just gives an illusion that rented cars and houses are cheaper. They are not. Most videos which try to explain this just forget that such things are sold as well after a few years, which makes them much more valuable "assets" than renting them. I probably might be wrong about this since I don't have numbers to prove it but is based on past experiences and what I've read and heard elsewhere.

I own a Nexon XZ+ VARIANT of 2017 model that time itwas around 8.9 Lakh on road and the car still looks new with total 30,000 km drive. Its been 5 years now and i am thinking to takethis beast for next 10 years so its one time investment but the retuen is much better than renting a car. Suppose now nexon costs around 10lakh and if you rnd it for 3 years then aslso max to max you'll save 1 0r 1.5 lakh but what about coming years you'll have to rent a new car for say another 9 lakhs for say 3 years where as the same car which is owned will barely make you spend 1 lakh( for sturdy car) in 6 years so CTC for owning=9 lakh for 6 years where as renting costs double the amount for 6 years.

Mr. Warikoo, you have wrongly deducted Rs. 2,53,959/- on the rental side. It should just be Rs. 26,709/- as you haven't actually invested Rs. 2,27,250 but just referring to return (inflation adjusted) if the amount if actually invested. So actually you will lose Rs. 2,25,000/- in renting a car for three year. Please correct the math and consider buying a car :)). All the best buddy!
@akhilesh8786
@akhilesh8786 2 жыл бұрын
What he's saying is a hypothetical scenario where you invest that amount at the beginning of the three years and then take the investment out after three years, so you'll be left with the mentioned amount, ergo deducting that. Another hypothetical scenario if you just take three years and not take them out then we'll just consider the returns. When we do the theoretical math, we take the first one not the second one.

Hi Ankur, Let me start by saying that I really like your content and appreciate all the effort that you put in to educate people. However, I believe that there are few errors in this calculation: 1. Total Upfront Amount = Downpayment + Insurance + Registration = Rs. 3,07,242 and not Rs. 7,61,742. 2. Value of upfront amount should be calculated on Total Upfront Amount and not Downpayment Amount which will be Rs. 343,353 3. While calculating the Net Cost of Renting a Car only the interest earned on the Total Upfront Amount should be deducted and not the entire amount which will be Rs. 36,111 Considering the above 3 points the Net cost of renting the car would be Rs. 8,58,518 - Rs. 36,111 = Rs. 8,22,407 which is higher than the cost of buying the car. I would love to hear from you if you feel there is something that I might have missed.

Maybe I didn’t follow it correctly, but did you consider the resale value of your owned car? Besides, I think it’s not always pragmatic to use excel sheet in every decision. When the numbers don’t vary by a huge margin, it’s better to avoid hassle and use all that time and mental energy in other fruitful pursuits. Maybe you’ll save few bucks here and there, but all the hassle, constraints, complications will outweigh the financial benefits if any. It’s good to think through about your financial decisions but not everything. You can freely use your own car, but will always use a rented car with degree of fear/caution and the overall joy will be ruined.

Like suppose 11 lakh is the net cost after 3 years then the resale price would be at-least more than 4-5 lakh whereas by renting the car, your money is simply getting into the pocket of someone else, 4-5 lakh is the minimum that one can expect as the car is still new, so the overall cost is less than 6 lakh whereas by renting it, it will be around 9 lakh.

I think 1 aspect you missed out to add is the tax benefit/deduction when you rent a car from your CTC which will help further to reduce the costs and this will come around the cost of buying a car.

@@akhileshrishi127 yes you can get deduction on lease rentals and maintenance annually and this shall reduce your tax by 30% on the money spent if you are under higher tax bracket. But you will have to work out by doing a calculation by considering whether it's beneficial in renting or not against the cost. Mostly if you are going for leasing cars if it's less than 12 lakhs you are at breakeven of buying anything more don't make any sense

after 3 yrs of usage u can sell ur car and get 40%-50% amount post depreciation if u had bought ur car rather than renting it. That amount is more that 90 k for sure. Also it gives u flexibility to buy a new car with the money that u have got by selling ur car. In case of renting u don't get that privilege .

Its ironic that owning a car today (or renting) has become more practical and financially viable compared to using Ola/Uber. In the analysis - should have added sell value of the owned car after x years since net cost will further reduce.

Problem is not in buying a new car. Real problem is selling the car every 2-3 years and again buying a new one. This is where real money is lost. Instead of that buy a good car which satisfy your needs and keep it for minimum 10 years. You won’t need any excel sheet for that.

I guess it more about freedom than the financial aspect of it, as renting a car you don’t have to think about all the maintenance insurance and xyz. But on the other hand buying a car might cost you 7 Lakhs but by the end of 3 years you can sell that car too. So it always going to be better financially to but rather than renting. Because you can sell your car by the 3rd year.

And once more it costs to maintain the car. He has calculated that the car is reduced b 15% year on year as well. So after selling the car also u will have paid 7 lakhs . Why? Because according to him he has lost money in insurance , maintenance, bank, depreciation and inflation. The 7 lakh amount is AFTER he sold the car . He has included salvage value btw. It's not enough to compensate for the other expenses. He has sold the car after 3 years for 4.8 lakh of something

Please do 1 detail video with EXCEL for owning EV, owning car and renting car. For a Person who is owning a business and buying a car in business name they can claim 15% Depreciation cost. For people who are very smart with money game & 3x - 4x (even multiply by higher number) their money every year. Its best for them to rent a car as we will want to buy new car every year as our financial game increases. That's why now a days people are renting all types of cars from Maruti Suzuki to Lamborghini. I personally feel renting is better

Coming to the point of his book, you didn't read the first page did you, it was..like a disclaimer, read it again. You should put some thought into what you're writing before posting it in the comments section. P.s. I'm not his "fanboy", but yes, he is one of my favourites, I respect him.
