In some parts of the world bishops are called elephants.
@magentamonster5 ай бұрын
There's also rooks. The name "rook" for the chess piece that moves orthogonally and the crow species Corvus frugilegus are etymologically unrelated though. And the rook called an elephant in chaturaji. The alfil is called an elephant in other chess variants. In fact, "alfil" means "elephant". Apparently the bishop evolved from the alfil, hence it's no coincidence that they are both called "elephant".

As an actual vegan: - Making a horse do work for you is exploitation, a vegan would never do that. - If your opponent is non-vegan, then the video wouldn't end on any of their moves. Because forcing the other player is not "practicable", which is part of the common vegan definition. With that, the video should have ended 1 move earlier.

I'm a vegetarian and have many vegan friends and we do play chess, but it has to be a wooden board and pieces (and pawns) in respect to the life of turtles in the future (not really lmao). Also why do people refer to vegans as violent? In my experience vegans rarely pick a quarrel, it's always someone in a guilt-trip denial like "but muh meat I can't live with no meat let me kill and dismember them pigs" and I mean, anyone who holds sacred any principle will get annoyed if you blatantly attack their beliefs, it's like coming to a priest and being like "dumbass you can't like prove god so you're so wrong and full of shit I will keep sinful and profanate your grave" and expect them to like you.

The way I interpreted this is to be as aggressive as possible, capturing whenever the opportunity presents itself but never capturing the opponents horse, threatening the horse is allowed Whether or not the horse's rule includes yours is up for debate He explicitly said not to harm the horses where harm means capturing, not "attacking" Its odd to me that having a piece within the reach of one of your pieces is called attacking when in reality at most you're only threatening to attack
@tcxd11645 ай бұрын
The chess term "attack" is used in contrast to "defend", where you try to prevent a piece from being captured, so honestly I think it's fine. The rest I'd agree with.

I think you were too harsh in interpreting the rules here. What I think you should have done: 1. You can't threaten opponent's knight 2. If your knight is threatened, you must make sure it is not captured on opponent's next turn. 3. If opponent makes the knight vulnerable, you must move so it isn't vulnerable on the next move. 4. If you can't do anything, the video ends. In this case, you would have had Bxf5, Na3, Nd2 or Qc3 available.

While attacking a piece may be emotionally harmful, I think the rules should've specified only if YOU start the attack. If the horse itself places itself under attack, you haven't really violated your vegan code (provided you do everything in your power to stop that attack thereafter). Vegans don't just give up on their ideology if they accidentally run over a deer, let alone simply have one momentarily in front of the car which they had to avoid. The trajectory of your game was clearly victorious, therefore, an honorary *mission accomplished*
