One point I would make is Hermes, Cartier, Burberry etc. were made for the wealthy not the general public. Their target market was never the middle classes or below. Also, historically watches and clocks were a sign of wealth.

That is true. Credit cards have changed this. I personally don’t like to re-sell anything so if I want longevity, I can purchase good quality with a timeless look…by the same token, I get tired of bags so I don’t want one that outlives me😊. It’s fun to know that you have money in the bank and do not need pretense 😂

@@jeanettetoro6445 :) You stated the most important factor, the credit card. If people still used cash the way they did in the past, half of the people who own these goods would not possess them.

Don't be desperate & accept any colour Constance that Hermes decides to bestow upon you. You deserve to get the EXACT colour & size of yr choice. At those extortionist prices, please do not settle. It should be their honour to have you carry their bag.

These bags are created and aimed at the RICH. For them, the prices are not extortionist. The fact that people of lower budgets also want them, but for them the prices appear extortionist - not the brand's fault people are poor. You are right though about settling. Buy exactly what YOU want or don't buy at all!

I find it interesting the Kelly was at one point named 'sac de voyage', and designed for traveling. It was not featured in the main handbag section of Hermes catalogs, instead with umbrellas and walking sticks etc. It makes sense when you think about the design and how it is not that easy to get in and out of. On the flip side, it is actually really good these days with how many thieves are about 😅 I have a 24 year old kelly in Courchevel leather and it is a wonderful bag.

I've actually got to ride with an Hermes jump saddle. It was owned by a friend of mine, and had belonged to her grandfather. It was comfortable to ride in, and also for the horse. It was stamped with Hermes and the logo under the saddle flap. It was made in the early 1900s, and had been very well cared for in its lifetime. Looked good on the horse as well. (Jan Griffiths).

I made this comment on another one of your videos, (which I enjoy). The reason a Chanel, Hermes, etc. cost what they do goes way beyond the actual value and quality of the bags. The excessive markup has to pay for the enormous overhead that pays for creating the “image” and hype, not to mention salaries. Creating the “prestige” is expensive. Why so many respond to this hype is a matter for sociologists and psychiatrists to define. But there are many bags of equal or better quality than these so called “luxury” brands that don’t charge these excessive prices. But those who get their self worth from spending and exhibiting this ability to spend will keep on doing it and pay for the prestige not the actual bag.

Cartier invented the wrist watch when they were asked by a pilot who needed the time but didn’t have two hands to use his pocket watch. Then they started selling them to men. Then in time women. Revolutionary starting an industry.

Whilst the story is true it wasn't the first wrist watch, the first wrist watch was created by Breguet for the queen of Naples. Also wrist watches were worn mainly by women first and then men.

I love Launer, their bags are so elegant and classy, the craftsmanship seems impeccable, love the interior of the bags and the attention to details given on them, but point of interest I also love the story behind every single name they gave their bags. Traviata from the "La Traviata" of Giuseppe Verdi which is a true classic and happens to be one of my favorite operas of all time, Viola - from 12th night of Shakespeare, etc. All their names carry a story. I did not know this brand in the past, I only discovered it recently and I am in love.

I personally feel that the interest of really wealthy people shifted from the big brands to unknown brands. Will follow that lead ;) Totally over Hermès and friends. It's not fashionable any more wearing items from ... let's say, questionable - sources. We overcame that already. Masses will follow.

I am not wealthy in any means but I do think designer is great if you buy specific things. I have to remind myself from time to time there is a difference in why to lust after them. It can be worth it if your able to buy something of exquisite materials, design, and quality. I often buy second hand, it’s cheaper and kinder to our home. Not because it has a logo on it.

So I was watching pics and videos of her. Adorable!!! I'm a Cartier fan, can't say I like the popular Kellys and Birkins....I esp dislike that they seem to be always carried open,if they are such wonderful bags why can no one close them properly, it really bugs me.
