using what i learned from this, instead of removing it, i just ket hammering it closed with a screwdriver, then opening it again, repeated for about 30 mins with ample lithium spray grease to flush it out, and now it works great! many thanks, glad i didnt have to spend all day yanking it out.

I've just done my cherokee 2004 levers The cost in the UK for all 4 pieces is 4 times more than I paid for my first car (50 quid in 1975) anyway I wasn't prepared to pay silly prices so I mig welded the corners of the pawls where there was obvious wear and ground it smooth, result was pretty good for the car which lets face it has never been that good with the silly auto cable adjustment system and it's still good a month later

@@DadDiaries owning my 04 from new I feel your pain , the handbrake stops you being bored , I also put a couple of approx 3" tension springs end to end across to the tab on the handbrake cable drum which keeps tension on the cable and stops it going slack. Under the cubby box there's holes already provided to attach the spring to, works like a dream. Keep up the good work

For what it’s worth I put a couple traps on the springs to compress to allow release of the small brackets. I have replaced everything and also done the spring hack inside the handbrake housing but still the handbrake intermittently fails. Thanks for the vid 👍

LOL my JK was just as rusty - nice to see a video that shows the typical case, not the Arizona case! I used a vise and a little heat to separate the two parts of that little metal scissor thingy to break the rust free, came apart OK but still took a while to get them moving smoothly afterwards.

I just repaired my 2007 jeep liberty. I had to replace the dust shield/backing plates on both sides. I first tried using the 14mm wrench, which I then proceeded to round over the corners of the nuts. Next, I tried using Vise Grip pliers, which I was able to remove 3 of the 8 nuts. Since my dust shields were rusted thru and loose, I removed them. I them used my 4" grinder and ground one side of the nut till the threads were showing, then whit Vise Grips I was able to remove the rest of the nuts. AS the replacement shields were 2 pieces, I did have to remove the Axle. In retrospect, if I had to do this again, I would have removed the Axles. This would have allowed me to use a 6-point socket to remove those nuts. To me, those nuts were interference fit threads. Also, if I had a Oxi-acetylene I would have tried heating them. As you have shown, both of the lever assembles were rusted together. In closing, this was a royal pain in the ass to repair.

Yeah it is a pain for sure... It's a terrible design for a vehicle that is design to hopefully be in it's rightful habitat off road and if it is then it's going to get corroded and gunked up with mud and grit aside from rust. Glad you got it done in the end! What a journey!

Great video, searched this to see if yoy used your new 3 tonne trolley jack. Noticed in background you did. :-) picking one of these up today from machine mart Liverpool, gonna use it to service front brakes on Jeep, I know they are OK I did them about 8 months ago, just gonna check pad thickness, remove the sliding pins and regrease them, good clean with a brush then reassemble. Do have other Jack's but have always wanted a heavy duty trolley jack that I can pull along on the floor. Much more in keeping with my jeep grand cherokee wj 2.7 diesel, she a heavy beasty and was a bit of a faff using smaller Jack's and blocks of wood. Be doing new handbrake shoes in the near future on my jeep so this video helps a lot. Thanks, Vinny. :-)

@@DadDiaries sorry I should have specified more clearly = the 2 pieces that wont stay together is that "swinging scissor" mechanism. You should just replace the entire thing , instead of wasting you time, just prefer a new type drum brakes shoes and drums and piston and fit it on. It is silly to waste time on such things, cause once you replace them they will last . And it's far simpler.

@DadDiaries
@DadDiaries 3 жыл бұрын
So I wouldn't exactly know I'm afraid....I had a good old Google and the following is available... What repairs can fix the P2096 code? Repairing a vacuum or other hose/line leak. Replacing the catalytic converter. Replacing the fuel filter, fuel pump, or fuel pressure regulator. Replacing the oxygen or mass airflow sensor. Replacing the spark plugs. What repairs can fix the P2098 code? Clearing the code and repairing the exhaust leak. Replacing the pre catalyst O2 sensor or repair the wiring. Replace O2 sensors for the pre and post catalyst if they are damaged from an issue that has got repaired like a head gasket that leaked coolant into the exhaust. Perhaps consider joining Jeepforum.com or more specifically for Liberties... Lostjeeps.com and put a post in the forum describing your problem and the symptoms you are experiencing with the Jeep. I'm sure someone else will have experienced this. It's bet to try and think about all possible options before blinding replacing components as that gets expensive and sometimes the fix can be relatively simple. 🙂
