There is some double meaning going on here Poly-(ポリ-) in Japanese is usually associated with plastic, and the lyrics ends with “プラスチックみたいな恋だ(the love is like plastic)”. Normal people would interpret “polyrhythm” as some plastic stuff but only musicians understand what it actually is It’s mad

Yasutaka Nakata manages to blend an absolute commercial sensibility with complexity and art. In this case, the Polyrhythm track was chosen by the Japanese government to depict a plastics recycling campaign - so that plastic word play was absolutely appreciated at the time. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fplygc-V3Mm-j3k.html

@@fukei1182 Natural Ni Koishite is a good one too. I can honestly think of loads of Perfume songs I enjoy, the only popular song of theirs I don't really like that much is Chocolate Disco, aside from that they're consistently good! It's amazing that they've been going for about 20 years now. The first Perfume song I ever heard was Dream Fighter which is another one of my favourites, I've liked them ever since then.

I got really into this song and group after hearing them at a house party about seven years ago. Regarding your comment in the description, I read that the higher ups did push against releasing this song, especially as a single, saying that the part was too weird and was a too long stretch without singing. The composer Yasutaka Nakata answered with "What are you talking about? There's vocals through the entire part." and this became a big breakthrough song for Perfume and Nakata's producer career.

what a gorgeous presentation & Great breakdown. The composer of this is a one man army - Yasutaka Nakata. Ppl often describe him as a modern-era Mozart. He has over a 1000 songs written by him over the past 25 years & is the producer of Jpop artists - Perfume, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, his own electronica group Capsule & numerous other collabs, including 2016 Olympic ending cermony music for japan. DJ's like Zedd, Madeon & Porter Robinson have mentioned him as one of their main influences. I would love for you to check out more of his works... and see more breakdown from you, if anything really noteworthy of your precious time catches your ears from them... few recommends... I tried to follow your explanation. And I was doing a good job up until you started playing the song, and like always, my brain shut down. You didn't mention the bass being broken up and changing just enough to reinforce the polyrhythm. To me, that's an important part of the song. You mention "they" several times in your dialog. But, "they" in this case is Yasutaka Nakata (also writes for his own Capsule as well as KPP). The girls were a HS girl group trying to make it to "the big time" and having no success. Then one day, this song "Polyrhythm" fell out of the sky from Nakata-sensei. Strangely enough, even to this day, they do not discuss the song with him when they receive a new one. Mikiko (choreographer) also does not discuss the meaning with him. Wonderful group. Great composer and choreographer. Match made in heaven!

They're becoming a lot less strict lately, so hopefully they don't strike it. A lot of Japanese music is being adding frequently on most streaming services lately, even BGM from Japanese video games.

Dude I just found your channel and I am so happy but at the same time I consider re-enrolling in 3rd grade because it seems I lack some counting skills.

Very cool. Really enjoying your channel, one of the best. Might I suggest analyzing the into to Porcupine Tree's 'Sentimental.' The melody has a relaxed rubato, but the drums are heavily syncopated. I think it's going between bars of 5/4 and 6/4, but it's really difficult to say definitively.
