The Ibanez RG3120 has been labeled the best of the best-at any price point-by so many guitarists that I'm starting to believe it. I haven't played one in about 20 years, but I do remember being impressed. Opinions on this guitar?
@MehYam2112
@MehYam2112 5 ай бұрын
I picked up one used 20 years ago, for about $500 - it was the same year Ibanez decided to dump all their stock, and the bottom fell out on Ibanez prices. Got a brand new Jem and JS1000 for $1000 and $700 respectively. Should have bought more. I like the 3120 better than both those guitars - nicer (less wide and thick) neck, jumbo frets, and it just seems to sound better with age.

It looks like you switch from a wrist motion to an elbow motion when playing fast using 2 way pick slanting. Would you agree? Yet when you play that other fast lick that you are well known for you are using strictly downward pick slanting, and only using wrist motion. I have never noticed this before. Have you always used some elbow motion on two way pick slanting licks?

hey Ben, great video as always man!! What did you mean by "it's not a PURE economy picking and that there are few PURE economy picking licks/riffs"? any chance you can do a video and clarify that point? I agree with what you said on your last video, it was an important and really a good one.
@BenEller
@BenEller 5 ай бұрын
Yeah dude! It’s not PURE economy picking because there’s still parts of it that go from an upstroke on a high string to a downstroke on a low string. That’s more typical of guys like EJ or YJM who are “down to down only” economy players 99% of the time.

So the ball of the sting is at the tuner on your high E, but not the other 5. Odd choice. Normally, on a Floyd (actually, I normally avoid the Floyd, but I digress), I run all the strings 'backwards' like your high E so I only have to trim one end. I am curious why 'one of these things is not like the others.'

When are you going to show us some clawhammer banjo tunes? As your step mum knows a good steady rhythm is more important than speed. No upstrokes, all downstrokes with the 5th string plucked on the off beat. Moreover, she doesn't like jerks who use a pick. Experienced ladies prefer finger style.

*If it is more than 4 notes, it is not a lick.* A lick is something like those terribly written, terribly played 4-tone runs in first few measures of the opening of the solo for Heartbreaker by that terribly bad guitarist Jimmy Page. Another guy who played licks is the overrated Eddie Van Halen, a guy who would play 3-tone, 2 whole step runs up a string even when not in key.

Hey Ben. I posed a question in a couple FB guitar groups and I got a massive response each time. Picks. Plectrums. This lick?? What about this p8ck?? Since the early 1980s, pics have changed radically . My first pic was tortoise, because they were. Then Fender medium for years..im.niw a fan of Ultex for the feel and hate delrins. I've recently began using various John Petruci Duncan Flow shapes and I love them. My control and dexterity has improved just by using these different picks. Any thoughts????? I like the heavier Petruci pic and the smaller NYC ones. Ultex for regular jamming. I've gone through many more over the years.
