Yes, most consumers. Buy SUV because they hate the sloping C pillar of modern sedans affecting rear headroom space. This is due to stupid car designers designing sloping rear to achieve lower drag coefficient to get better fuel mileage whereby consumers hate buying this kind of sloping rear design sedan . Eg .Mercedes CLA, CLS, , Volvo S60 2000 till 2019 ( cannot sell), Audi A5, Peugeot 508, Opel Insignia, Ford Mondeo , VW PASSAT CC, Another one sedan forecast with low sales volume will be new Honda Civic .( Sloping rear roof design )
@heart4011
@heart4011 2 жыл бұрын
@@konsen6149 Fair, but I wouldn't place the blame on rear slope issues as this would also increase sales of wagons and hatchbacks due to its lack of one. What's actually causing SUVs to skyrocket is a combination of very basic things such as prices being equivalent to what the Accord and Civic are asking, more practicality in comparison to the hatchbacks and wagons we have on sale, a higher-grade of comfort, the bonus of it being guaranteed to handle many weather conditions, and the benefit of safety because the SUV will never lose in a crash (even though it sucks at avoiding them) EDIT: and if we take a look at a country like Japan, who has placed very strong taxes on larger vehicles, SUVs are pretty much non-existent and are favored for lesser priced vehicles. It may also help that these cars are forced to get smaller in order to comply with the tight Japanese roads (which is why the Suzuki Jimny exists) In Europe, the same thing can be said. SUVs are too big for the roads in Europe and some places it's impossible to drive with them without worrying about hitting something. While SUV sales have been on an incline in Europe as of recently, these have been regulated to the smaller class SUVs (compact and subcompact SUVs)

@@heart4011 yes heed your reply . Honestly and realistically speaking the new version of sloping rear design Honda accord does not sell well over this side . Buyer over this side do not like or buy sloping rear design sedan . European cars with sloping rear design sedan faces poor sales to the extend of extinction despite many sales promotions and offerings. The Japanese and Korean are smarter , especially Toyota , Mitsubishi, Nissan , Hyundai , their less sloping rear sedan sell very well compare to other European makers with sloping rear sedan so call sporty sedan ( non functional ) . This is the fact over here .

Families have so many better options than the accord and then there are the Korean makes that look super cool and are a touch cheaper. Really who is the ideal Accord owner these days? Think about. I don't know about most people, but I can feel the difference between a naturally aspirated engine and turbo because I've owned both. Though the turbo is quicker I HATE turbo lag, it drives me nuts. Which is why I recently traded in my vehicle with the four-cylinder turbo engine for a naturally aspirated engine. Though my new vehicle isn't as fast or fun to drive at top speeds, I prefer the comfort and smooth ride in my new car. Plus, the thought of repairing that turbo was starting to get to me as my car was growing older. I think this might explain what's going on with HONDA - the engine/transmission choices.

The Camry has a naturally aspirated ( non- turbo ) engine & a 6-speed automatic ( non-CVT ) transmission. Honda reliability can’t compete with that. Turbos & CVT’s just don’t have the long term reliability that you get in the Camry.
@Blackacreonfire
@Blackacreonfire 2 жыл бұрын
A few thoughts. As compared to my 2014 Accord, the new ones are turbo charged, and that leads to questions about long-term reliability vs the old naturally aspirated engines with proven long-term reliability. My 14 has a real hand/emergency brake. They took away the coupe and lost maybe 8 percent of their sales right there. You touched on the cvt, but I would guess that for the average consumer, it's more about the style of the shifter. With apologies to the almost impossible to find Honda Clarity, how many consumers in this market are holding out for an affordable electric or PHEV that meats their needs to show up? And of course there is the part market pull, part manufacturers push to turn everything into a jelly bean shaped all wheel drive station wagon with aspirations of being a truck thing. The allure of buying such a beast to go to Wal-Mart hasn't quite afflicted all of the consumers, but it's close.
@michaelbroderick6830
@michaelbroderick6830 2 жыл бұрын
Honda had initial problems when they first introduced the turbo engine but it's widely accepted that they've mastered it now. CVT will always be a big issue because from a consumer POV, you get an extra few MPG but on the flip side, you get a transmission that wears out faster and can't be remanufactured, costing owners thousands of dollars for a new CVT, if they want to keep it long term. Most people who buy accords or Camry's, want to keep them long term.

What happened to the Accord is what happened to all main-stream sedans: a huge shift in consumers’ vehicle preference. Redline Reviews published a video last year titled: What’s happened to Toyota Camry sales? Camry sales declined from 435k units in 2014 to 294k units in 2020. Nissan Altima, Mazda 6 sales dropped even more precipitously. The shift in consumer preference is why the only car you can buy in a Ford dealership now is a Mustang.

the 2.0 liter at the top of the range with the turbo and 10 sp auto makes the 1.5 with cvt look a little anemic, albeit way more affordable. they probably should have saved this for the more premium acura line and not created "the one i want is too expensive" disconnect. additionally, for those like me with the older superb screaming 2.4 (7200 redline)in my 2008 exl) it's just a bridge too far to accept potential problems with the 1.5 turbo combined with the dislikable cvt.

@D.L. Gray Did you miss the word «cheaper» in your own comment ? As I can see, it is obvious you are not aware of the car specifications. The CR-V is based on a Civic frame, not the Accord. Both cars have the same engines and the Accord is more economical in MPG. The cabin is cheaper in the CR-V. Just look at the infotainment system. The one in the Civic is dated and the next CR-V will get the same as the one in the existing Accord. Sitting higher is not an advantage in terms of handling. The Accord is a lot better than the CR-V in that domain. Just a have a look at the critics ! Of course if you are a boomer I can understand why you prefer to sit higher. You may not like the look of the Accord but it has nothing to do with the car quality. Year after year, the Accord is considered one of the best «family car» by MotorTrend (best in 2022). Still searching for a better and not overpriced sedan ?

I have a '20 Accord Touring 2.0T and I am beyond delighted with it. It is an awesome car. I have driven nothing but Honda/Acura models with V6 engines since 2002 and swore I'd never go back to a 4 cylinder. I was looking to replace my '16 TLX Advance with a slightly used '19 TLX but couldn't find one to suit me after months of searching. I considered the Accord 2.0T but kept resisting because of the 4 cylinder. Finally, I decided to test drive one and during the test drive realized that I wasn't giving the Accord enough credit. I ultimately decided to buy the '20 Accord 2.0T and I have fallen hard for this car. The more I drive it, the more I like it. It is an amazing car and I do not miss my V6s at all. Well, I do miss the sound of those growling V6 engines but my Accord is quicker and I love that torque. The chip shortage has hit Honda harder than some of the other manufacturers. My local Honda dealer hasn't had new Hondas for months now. Sedan sales in general are suffering because of the SUV trend now but I will buy sedans as long as they continue to build them. Have no need for an SUV and sedans drive so much better. And contrary to what Dave says in the video, I'm pretty sure that Honda is planning a complete redesign for the '23 Accord from what I've read online.

Stay away from the 1.5-liter turbo engine, ( There's also a 2.0-liter turbo ) You'll have more maintenance issues and turbos are very expensive if they need replacing. The 1.5-liter engines suffer from soft piston rings which in the past has led to oil dilution problems. Fuel mileage is also affected, especially if you have a lead foot. Normally Aspirated/ Non-turbo engines like the 2.4 liters i-4-Vtec & V6 are the better way to go, But Honda is not offering Non-turbo engines in the 2022 Honda Accord, Probably why the sales numbers are so dismal. Unfortunately, the SUV is what they are selling over tried and true sedans that offer better MPGs and safety.

I had a 2015 Honda Accord sport with a manual transmission. Before that I owned a used 2004 Honda Accord with a manual transmission. Overall the car was very good -- it was a good daily driver that did everything pretty well. The car has gotten to be too big -- it's similar to what happened with the 2008-2012 generation. The Acura Integra seems like a potentially better alternative right now.

Sales dipped in 2018 when they released the new body style. I think the previous accord was much more attractive on the outside. The latest model interior is better. I drive an Acura TL and the car is exceptionally reliable and sporty. My TL has a non aspirated V6 instead of forcing a 4 cylinder with a turbo to be overworked. The J Series engines were the best on the market but everyone wants to put in these small turbocharged engines that require premium gas. I will pass.

I've owned many accords and will continue to do so. The v6 models are the best as far as I am concerned and they should have made more 6 speed standards too. I am not a fan of them going to all 4 cylinder turbo on the 18 and up so I guess I'm stuck with the older models unless I get an Acura TLX instead. The turbos I'm fairly confident will have motor issues compared to the naturally aspirated motors. I bet they start having motor failures earlier than the non turbo models and time will tell soon enough.

Honda has had turbos since the early 2010's on the RDX, they know what they're doing. The Civic has been out and turbo'd since 2016, issues besides the dilution which has been solved simply with a different oil, haven't been popping up. I think it's safe so say they're more reliable than compeitiors, at least.

Yes, time will tell. But as with all engines, good maintenance goes a long way toward great reliability down the road. This probably applies even more with a turbo. Honda engineering is solid and owners of the more recent turbo cars should expect great service life. If you're at all curious about the 2.0T and how it drives compared to the V6 it's just a matter of taking one on a test drive. I was really quite amazed with the 1.5T Accord I bought and they continue to run on regular gas as recommended by Honda.

The CR-V, Pilot, and the Passport have been cannibalizing Accord sales for years now. The three models will continue to do so. The CR-V used to occupy the space between the Civic and Accord in the general size. With the new CR-V going to the RDX platform, the new HR-V will soon start taking sales from the CR-V, Accord, and the Civic it is based on. If Honda made AWD available on their traditional sedans, maybe sales won't slide so much.

I"m considering between the Accord and Camry. Although I like the Accord styling better (with exception to those brake lights) I'm probably going with a v6 Camry sometime next year (2023) because of the engine. By the way, I saw these same dropping numbers during the 2020 Pandemic and if you compare to Tesla's growing numbers I think there is a huge switch to Tesla that has taken away market share from BMW as well. I'm in the SF Bay Area and most tech workers are likely to move towards Tesla where the same people were buying luxury sedans or SUV's 20-25 years ago. The switch is a combination of too much selection with small SUV's and the people with good jobs moving to Tesla.

If you do buy the Camry make sure you do get the V6. I wanted a V6, but opted for the I4 due to price. Although the I4 has a traditional automatic transmission it slips under light acceleration. The feeling is like an old transmission about to fail. Slipping as it can't decide what gear to be in. Toyota is aware of this, but does not consider it a problem and will not issue a fix. I did not want a CVT, but I am not sure I am much better off with this. I cannot believe they could tolerate this slipping with the power of a V6. No way.

I am now right where you were a month ago........Accord or Camry????? My 5 day work week consists of driving 120 miles a day on the highway. So I am considering 2 models currently: Accord Touring Hybrid or Camry XSE Hybrid. From all of the research I have done, there is one distinct difference between the engine setups. The Accord when comparing mpg does better slightly than the Camry around town with stop and go traffic due to its Regen Braking System. But the Camry does roughly 5mpg better on the hwy. So you would think the obvious choice for me would be the Camry. Heck seems 1 out of every 15 vehicles I see on the road where I am are all Camrys, so it's not like the popularity isn't obvious. The Accord does bring a price tag of $4,500 more than the Camry. And Toyota gives you (already in the price of the car) a 2yr or 24k miles Maintenance Plan. It would seem like I am talking myself into the Camry as I am sure this is probably what anyone that bought the Camry probably considered before buying because these cars are very similar in the market. But the thing that is stuck in the back of my mind is the Accord does look better. Giving you wireless Apple Carplay or Android Auto, A/C ventilated front seats, tinted rear glass, and the Sonic Gray Pearl beats the 3 color options for the Camry. What is also sticking out to me since I had been looking at turbo cars like the Golf GTI or R, Audi A4, and so forth.......the Honda turbo engines allow for regular gas which is not normal in a turbo market. Premium here is $5.20gal and only slated to rise in price. So it will actually come down to driving both cars.........who knows......if the local Honda dealer throws in the same maintenance plan I will probably sign so we will see.

@@Remnant1976 for me the final issue is simply the perception of these cars regarding vandalism and theft. I see more of that on Accords. I won’t be buying Audi or VW again because of reliability issues. Well the Honda Accord sells less because it has a 1.5 turbo engine. This engine has oil dilution and and with that and the turbo it probably won't make it to a hundred thousand miles. In 2016 I checked in to Honda for my new car and found out that about every 70 thousand miles you got to get the lifters adjusted. Come on man we not in the 1960's. At the time the Accord did not have fog lights The maxims did.The Maxima had a standard 8 speaker sound system and sounds way better than the Accords and Camry. The Accord and Camry I was not able to lock the door while the car was running. You must use the key blade to lock the door which I think is stupid.
