I read a few comments below saying this is 'basic' playing.. If you think that it's easy to play like this, you simply have not dedicated enough hours into playing this instrument to appreciate this stuff. To be able to say so much with so few notes is the epitome of a guitar player with mature phrasing. Maturity isn't something that can be rushed. I hope I'll get somewhat closer to this level of sophistication in my playing in ten years or so but in the meantime, I'll continue to enjoy listening to and learning from players like Jack, Robben Ford and many others.

"I fear not the man who practiced 10.000 kicks one time, but the man who practiced one kick 10.000 times." - Bruce Lee It might be 'basic' in a technical sense, but it shows a level of mastery over those basics that few can truly match. It's an excellent showcase of how much can be done once you get just the fundamentals down. Besides, it's not like he's playing progressive rock, right?

You absolutely hit the nail on the head when you said “searching for unforgettable lines, one note at a time.” That encapsulates it perfectly. For some, it’s about robotically showing off while playing fast etc.. or thinking that all that “feel” is somehow linked to hours and years of practicing, but the best players; it’s their organic connection to what they’re playing, expression, it moves them and moves us at the same time, it’s what special about those players. It’s something I’ve noticed playing drums behind a lot of guitar players over the years. Less is more. Great channel man 👏

Much of his analysis flies over my head because I’m not a musician, but I totally get his appreciation of finesse over technical skill. I think it was B.B. This is what I gathered from his clips: 1.) Awareness of the song He knows where he is in the song, and what’s coming up next 2.) Knows the changes/chords thru and thru He knows the chords; and not just on a surface level. He knows/feels the theory behind what he can play on top of each chord 3.) Dynamics/taste/touch With knowing the placement of the song, and knowing the chords, he can then put in the perfect lick that the song calls for at that very moment. My biggest thing I take away from this, and that I’d tell young musicians, is awareness. Most young guitar players get lost in their pedals and the lick that learned from John Mayer; but they have no idea of where they are in the song or what changes are coming up next. Knowing the song and the chords coming up next will put you on a level much higher than your peers. That’s my take at least.

Oddly enough, this reminds me of David Gilmour. I don’t have the musical education to explain in technical terms. Each note matters and is allowed it’s time in the spotlight. Delightful.

Yeah Gilmore is another master that people often under appreciate or simply don’t recognize how good he is at what he does. He’s a very musical player and doesn’t put a single nite out of place in any of his songs everything is placed in the best possible way as if someone fed the basic foundation of the song through a machine that comes up with the best possible scenarios with the notes given. Kind of like the chess machine AI they have that predicts the best move from a given match

It's about how a musician can pour their soul into them notes... one note at a time, right as you've said it. As an amateur musician I totally feel what you've felt. Absolutely beautiful. So smooth and meaningful! Brings me back to Roy Buchanan days! My favorite guitarist of all time! Check him out if you’ve never heard. Would love to see a reaction video to Roy Buchanan “The messiah”

This simplicity is what always struck me about BB King. He didn’t need the fastest fingers or the best riffs. He needed emotion - connection to the phrasing. He needed simple notes tied together in a creative, seamless, breathtaking way. That’s what made him great. And it’s also what puts Jack right up there with him.

I used to think BB was good, even met the guy. I get he's a legend etc, but the bar was a lot lower back in his day. BB even said he can't play chords because his fingers are too fat and short lol
