Ja-jang-myong. This is a Chinese fermented black bean noodle dish. Hugely popular in China and then adopted by Koreans. What is popular now is the Korean version that you're having. Also cucumbers, not zucchini.

Jajangmyeon is korean. It is literally translated to black bean paste (jajang) and noodles (myeon) in korean. Zha jiang mian is chinese. The chinese black bean noodles are a completely different kind of dish and taste completely different. Jajangmyeon is the korean version of black bean noodles and have been around in korea for 100’s of years. The only common thing between Korean (jajangmyeon) and chinese black bean noodles is that the sauce is made from black beans. They are pronounced different, spelt different taste completely different and even look different. If you’re chinese you’d know but you’re probably just blindy wanting to claim it as your country’s. One simple google search, or a visit to a chinese restaurant then a korean restaurant, proves it. That is jajangmyeon and you cannot get that at a chinese restaurant. You get a different kind of black bean noodles called zha jiang mian. But you know this.

It should be mentioned how long ago the dish was introduced to Korea by the Chinese. It was the late 1800s. Jajangmeon has been a fixture in Korea for well over a century and is different from what was originally introduced. Kinda cool how dishes evolve over time and across cultures. I'd watch a show about that.

jajangmyeon is made with zucchini too 😅 but it’s usually cubed and from the way it’s cooked definitely looks like it was that

The one you are eating, Ja-Jhang-Meyeun is a korean chinese black bean paste noodles. It was created by Chinese migrants in South Korea, its considered Korean Chinese cuisine. It's a creamy saucy starch thicken black bean sauce and starch made of primarily pork and onions and sometimes zucchini and or potatoes. As opposed to the original Zha-jiang-mien of China which is made of a whole black bean ground pork mixture (not saucy) and almost 15 ( more or less) different sides that is brought to the guest and the guest picks and choose what sides they want in the mien. Both noodle dishes have wheat based noodle usually hand pulled. The one you are eating is Korean Chinese food. Authentic Chinese food (not panda express) serves ohng choy or tao myu in garlic when in season and not just bok choy, gailan or choy sum steamed served with oyster sauce. And of course everyone know the dim sum spots. I hope that helped may your Chinese New Year this past February 10th 2024 bring you much longevity and prosperity in the year of the dragon.

Jajangmyeon is a casual, comfort noodle dish that is smothered in a savory black bean sauce. It's part of a Korean Chinese hybrid cuisine. It’s black bean noodles. I always wanted to try it I hope I can try it. Looks so delicious especially with kimchi. It’s originally from China but adapted to Korea so now it’s very popular in Korea. I’ve seen people eating black bean noodles with sweet / sour pork .

I can tell the dumplings are legit because of the dipping sauce. They put green onions in and you know when there are green onions it is the real deal.

Hiii Ashley! It’s Asian black beans that are slightly sweet and umami. The origins are Chinese but the Chinese version is heavy on the minced meat not so much on the veggies. When the Chinese came to Korea they made a saucier version with a bunch of dice of vegetables in it to accommodate for our taste buds and now it’s probably the #1 food ordered for delivery nowadays in Korea. I’m so glad u enjoyed it because it’s one of my childhood favorites!

The sauce is usually made with salted or fermrnted black soybeans and garlic and a bunch of other stuff. I make blackbean garlic sauce at home as the fermented black beans are super cheap and last forever in the fridge. They are like little nuggets of super concentrated soy sauce. I do test each batch i buy for salt as some can be more salty but you can soak them to reduce the salt. My favorite sauce is a mix of blackbean garlic and tangerine sauce mixed together. On eggplant and pork with some carrots and onion and zucchini its a rice killer.

The first two syllables are like zha zha as in Gabor. Zha-zhang-mee-yong. And also omg the smokeyness, the chewy bouncy noodles, the delicious crunch from the veggies. Korean version is my jam. Another favourite is Champong 🤤.

I’m not an expert. Without giving you a whole Chinese lesson. “Zha-gee ahng-mee ann”… phonetically. The hyphen marks a syllable. The space means you have to pronounce the 2 sounds together. Hope this helps. “Zha” like pi-zza, za! “Gee ahng” like peon, but with gee. “Mee ann” like meandering, without the -dering. Have fun.

Yes, you guys were the first to make black bean noodles and this dish was inspired by chinese but it is a korean dish and has been a staple in korea since the 1800s. You guys cannot make jajangmyeon (most korean moms know how to make it) and we cannot make your black bean noodles.

I was trying to remember if you had tried Burger Kings candied bacon whopper. I didn't know about it and when I saw a sign I ran over to try it. They were out of the bacon jam that goes on it but I tried it without the jam. It needs to be a permanent menu item! Without the jam, it was so good! I'm curious how it is with the jam, but don't think it needs it.

Clearly they're serving the KOREAN style jajangmyeon here. Zha jiang mien and jajangmyeon, although similar, is still very different...woth the only thing in common being the usage of blackbean paste. What was introduced to korea by Chinese immigrants has evolved over the century and is now something entirely different both look wise aswell as taste. The Korean style jajangmyeon does not belong to China. Period.
