Fun Fact: all the spices are toxic in nature, that's how they survive the nature in the first place, despite being delicate... not to the levels that could kill you immediately, but moderation is the key. Consuming too much spices on daily basis could also show adverse effects.

In India, we don’t drink through out the year. It is meant only for winters. Even in winters we put just a pinch of turmeric not more than that… daily or excessive consumption can lead to heavy periods in female. Daily consumption is good for old people. rest, it can be consumed on daily basis in food in all weather conditions… in India, we put turmeric in almost every food item… just be mindful when putting it in hot milk

Great video! As Indians, we generally use not more than half a teaspoon for the amount of milk that's used here. You could add saffron powder as well in winters. You get ready-made 'milk masala' in Indian stores too that has everything added to it. Anything in excess is harmful and too much turmeric actually gives a very bitter taste. I personally give my kids masala milk every night but only add a quarter teaspoon to a 6 oz glass.

First chai became chai tea and now the humble haldi duudh (turmeric and milk) has become turmeric latte and golden milk which is being made using macha whisk. Heavens! If only ancestors could see this. Probably if they had learned to advertise like this then the Britishers would have learned to use the spices. Its always so cute seeing europeans/americans discover spices. "It stores upto 4 weeks" ,he said. Sweetheart it will outlive you( yes I am exaggerating for effect but you get me).

Maybe look for the positive. The good word is spreading. It's not important what it's called. It's even reasonable that the recipe might adjust and vary over time and between individuals. Breath in... and breath out. 😂

@@ylvany1if you follow the natural way of food, you will rarely go wrong, in fact never go wrong I would say. The natural way of consuming turmeric or any kind of spice is actually with food ingredients after cooking. Not by themselves! I have seen foreigners with little knowledge of south asian spices pouring lots of turmeric or any other kind of powder in their drink or trying to consume them raw or with the wrong food! All of which only causes more damage than benefit to the health. In the warm south asian temperature consuming spices everyday with food is a very natural thing, people do not think twice about it before taking it thinking oh this must be medicinal! But that this do is that, it helps protect the brown folks from a lot of autoimmune and weird diseases that is so prevalent in the west! You will never hear any restaurants in this part of the world talking or worrying about food allergies in customer before taking their orders! Cause the think is rarely heard of, be it allergies like peanut or gluten or any other weird allergies that is so common in the western population! Similarly the tolerance and immunity of brown people is also higher comparatively to the western counterpart, covid time was the prove for that!

A nice video! But I would like to add what I heard in a medical lecture about alternative medical treatment/support fighting cancer. That turmeric develops a special substance when you boil it briefly. That's why I prepare the golden milk by putting all the other ingredients in my cup and briefly boiling the turmeric separately (with water and a little plant milk). I also add a teaspoon of coconut oil, as this extremely increases the bioavailability, i.e. absorption of the good substances into your body 👍🏼🙏🏼

Yes, true. But... That pinch of black pepper needs to be 10% of the turmeric amount for optimal effect. On top of that: turmeric needs a good fat to bind to our endocannabinoid system, which is where the magic happens. So up the black pepper and add a spoon of coconut oil to your cup. ❤️

It is true if you are on blood thinners, you need to talk to a naturopath before you start using turmeric. Turmeric thins your blood, so would make a great substitute for big Pharma, but not both. I am not taking drugs but I love Epson salts hot baths..so relaxing. But I was taking turmeric at the same time and I had a terrible bloody nose that was very hard to stop. I soaked too long and it was bleeding out of both nostrils just pouring. Made a huge mess in the bathroom getting to the sink. Later, I got to thinking about the fact that turmeric thins blood, but so does Epson salts, plus the hot heat of the bath, and it was just too much for my blood vessels. So you really have to consider what you’re doing and the ramifications. I’ve since cut down the salt baths. I think turmeric is the better value, but you could switch back-and-forth. Just don’t do both!

Tumeric needs heat, peperine and fat to activate the curcumin, which is what is actually needed. It is the classical India tempering of good - turmeric, red pepper and any other spices of choice in hot oil. As medicine, we consume it only when needed ( as medicine should be used). We heat a spoon of ghee, add half a teaspoon of tumric, a pinch of black pepper, and then add about half a cup of full cream milk, bring it to a boil and drink it last thing before sleeping.

Coconut milk is the best for this. Medicanally speaking. I am Indian and even though I was convinced about the cruetly and I even stopped dairy products but for a cold I would make this turmeric milk with cows milk. I could not let go of that and that made me thing that we humans need milk. One day my friend invited me to eat dinner in his house I told him I need to make this milk He said don't worry I will give you something that will work in 20 minutes. He makes this decoction but he rather his mom boils it till it reduces 4 glasses of water becomes 1 glass and then he takes half a glass and adds half a glass coconut milk. 20 minutes my chest congestion that was going to become a full fledges cough and cold was gone. I still had another glass for good measure. Oh Yes they add a jaggery made from toddy. Its like coconut sugar rather jaggery made from the coconut sap. I think coconut sugar or regular natural organic jaggery should work fine. This made me rethink the role of milk in Ayurveda because i remember I used to drink 5 glasses of this milk for 2 to 3 days to get rid of such a cough. But here it was just 1 glass. Then you do the research Milk is "kapha" means it is inflammatory so it inflammes the mucus memberane and causes cough and congestions. So we were actually adding anti inflammatary herbs to inflammatary dairy milk and it still worked because these herbs are so powerful. But if you just eliminate the cows milk and use coconut which also is anti bacterial and anti viral it works 10x better Long story short I found a lot of evidence that Dairy milk is actually prohibited in orthodox ayurveda because it is mucus producing because of inflammatary properties but for some reasons it became a part of ayurved and it is never approved in the orthodox texts but it has made it into modern ayurveda and mistranslated text. So I went VEGAN! The irony is the vegetarians who quote this modern I would call fake ayurvedic texts to justify drinking milk the ignore that same fake ayurvedic texts also recommends drink goats blood and cows tongue among other animals and birds to cure diseases that already have cures mentioned in the orthodox ayurvedic texts.

I've been putting tumeric in everything I eat. It's great in oatmeal too. Gives it a beautiful yellow color and it tastes awesome with some cinnamon sprinkled on top!
