In the fairground scene, in the original Dark Knight Returns comic, there's a part where, Joker gave cotton candy to those cub scouts who were unaware that it was laced with cyanide (Joker gets a good laugh out of it). When Batman and Robin swoop down to the fairgrounds, Robin was horrified, seeing hundreds of dead kids with bloody foam coming out of their mouths littering the floor. Unfortunately, that scene was removed because it was deemed too "graphic" by the executives.

I will say I fully understand Superman's position. Everyone knows he is the most powerful entity on the planet, everyone fears him because of it (except those who know him). Superman has to be under the law of his home to make his home feel safe, otherwise he get percieved as a danger. Superman's story has always been that of an immigrant's, he has to abide by the laws and culture of his adoptive home or he will be ostracized and (potentially abused), which is the last thing he wants. Unfortunately, his attempts to avoid that have trapped him in a kind of abuse that he is unable to recognise, one where his power is used by those he wants to protect. One that forces him to turn on his friends to uphold the "laws" of the home he feels indebted to. When he says "their" world, he thinks he is talking about the un-superpowered, he isn't even aware that it comes across as corruptive because he feels its not his place to decide.

I think my only real complaint about the animated adaptations are that they remove some of Bruce's inner narration. At the beginning of the comic, when he saves himself from the car crash, he thinks 'This would be a good death but not good enough.' I love how this is bookended by the final line of 'This will be a good life. Good enough.'

I mean Bats didn't really kill him, he just twisted Jokers neck in a way that if the Joker moved his neck too much he would die. In the end Joker killed himself because as far as he was concerned his goal was acomplished. He made Bats snap in a way that made the people hate him and want him gone.

@Cooplander
@Cooplander 2 жыл бұрын
@@garmisra7841 I wouldn't say it's a theory, it is strongly suggested in the graphic novel, as Joker's font becomes the exact same as Batman's after his neck is snapped. It's the only explanation that makes sense for the change in font and is completely in character for the Batman that Frank Miller has created here. It would have been very difficult to do in a similarly subtle manner in the film however, so it was cut out, which is inevitable with transitions from page to screen. Similarly, I would have loved for them to include Batman's narration throughout or Superman's narration after the nuke explodes, but they were obviously trying to cut out as much of the narration as possible, while still maintaining the core story. Narration just doesn't work as well in film/tv as it does in comics, sad to lose some great character moments, but it is what it is.

Superman and Batman are polar opposites of each other, if Superman starts to challenge authority like Batman then we pretty much get the Injustice storyline. Superman's actions are unlikeable from Batman's perspective, but in the larger picture he was keeping the world from falling apart, without him taking out that nuke, the world would have an all-out nuclear war. Bruce just wanted to put some humility in him, that he had lost during all this.

So, an electromagnetic pulse is one of the secondary effects of nuclear weapons (not to mention all sorts of other things like from the sun or lightning) basically will fry anything electrical or at least knock it out, unless it's inside a Faraday cage. One of the major fears of astronomers and the like are that the sun sends them out due to sunspots and the like, normally they aren't a big deal, but every so often a major smack hits the planet. Historically it wasn't an issue since, no electronics, last one happened in the late 1800s though and telegraph lines just shut down and routing stations started catching on fire. Today though, it would be catastrophic, satellites all over would just fry right out, electronics all over the planets like cell phones, all the systems we use for banking, stock trade, government communications...all the wiring in your cars or transit lines. Everything would just shut off or straight up catch fire. We'd, instantly, go into a state of having no electricity anywhere possibly worldwide...scary thing is it's not a question of if, it IS going to happen again, does once every hundred or so years, and we frankly have nothing set up to deal with it.

Well the DCAU from the 90s is like 306 20 minute episodes of TV and some feature films (Mask of The Phantasm is one of em) When your Young Justice binge ends perhaps you will be able to get into those shows. They do amazing things for many characters but especially Bruce and Clark and their supporting casts. They also created Harley in Batman The Animated Series. all of which is to say that’s probably the best plays sans comics to get an understanding for Clark

Bats didn't kill Joker. He didn't put enough force in that neck snap to kill him, because he still followed his code of not killing; frustrating the Joker. As a final act, Joker killed himself by bending his neck even more to kill himself, making it look like Batman finally broke his oath.

@@sparshbansal6624 Beat him in the sense that Superman wasn't even trying to seriously injure Bruce. Batman is my favorite character of all time but I'm not blind that I can't see that everytime Batman vs Superman happens there's some catch to the fight and it is never completely 1v1. Here too he needed Green Arrows help. Superman was mostly trying to talk him into surrendering himself. In hush too Superman almost killed Bruce but Bruce played dirty and almost had Lois killed. He can never beat Superman if Supes really goes serious. I don't have a problem with it tho, Batman's ability to be in the shades of grey and not completely white like most other heroes is what I like about him. But Superman beats Bruce's ass anyday he thinks about doing so.

@@harshjain9615 *"beat him in a sense that Superman wasnt even trying to seriously injure bruce"* That is such a dishonest argument. I hate people like you. Superman literally threw cars and buildings at batman (who is essentially a human) and you have the nerve to tell me that Superman wasnt trying to injure batman? He had every intention to capture batman by hook or by crook. *"He needed green arrows help"* And Superman needed the help of the entire military. If you were not blind and biased, you wouldnt have been selectively rational. Superman was assisted by the entire might of the US military and you have the nerve to tell me that batman had help? Also Green Arrow was part of batmans plan. Green Arrow was a mere pawn in the fight that batman used to defeat Superman. Batman is not physically stronger than Superman so ofcourse he is going to defeat Superman using strategies and tactics. If you really want a fair fight, take away Supermans powers and then we will see who wins. Not only did you not understand the story, you fundamentally misunderstand the nature of fair and unfair. How old are you? *"Superman was trying to talk him into surrendering himself"* And that is proof that Superman initiated the fight. Batman had no beef with Superman. Batman didnt want to hurt Superman. Batman was trying to restore order to a corrupt and broken city but Superman decided to be governments lapdog and interfere in batmans business. Superman initiated the fight when he asked batman to surrender. *"Bruce played dirty"* Didnt Superman play dirty by using his powers on a human? If Superman is allowed to physically abuse his powers on good guys, why cant batman play a little bit dirty? *"He can never beat Superman if Supes really goes serious"* Ane yet he has. Countless times. I can give you a detailed and comprehensive list of stories where batman has defeated Superman. I am sorry but dont ever call yourself a fan of batman. You fundametally misunderstand the character of batman.

Comic Facts from CCC Podcast- 20:13- Batman didn't break his code. In the OG comic, Frank Miller writes a Batman who is older, more embittered and not afraid to go to higher extremes. But when it comes to this final conflict with Joker, he doesn't take that last step. Instead he paralyzed Joker, who in his own twisted last act of vengeance, uses what little strength is left to finish the job, thereby framing Batman for the murder of his greatest enemy.

Batman didn't break his code. You saw Joker kill himself. Batman paralysed him. In the comic, Joker expresses disappointment that Batman didn't have the guts to finish the job. Then he uses his last strength to finish snapping his own neck because he knows everyone will think that Batman is now a killer.

2 things you asked about that I thought I'd answer. The most common conclusion by fans is that Batman did kill Joker, and Joker talking was really an inner monologue from Batman given that Batman realizes that breaking his code will put more people after him than ever before. The second thing is that Superman didn't expand from the water, he was absorbing the residual sunlight from all of the plants in the nearby environment since Superman gets his strength from the sun, among other types of large stars, and plants need sunlight to grow, so he was able to absorb the left over solar energy from the plants. That's why all of the nearby plants and trees died after he touched the first sunflower.

Batman didn't kill the Joker. He broke his neck to the point where he knew Joker wouldn't be able to hurt anyone ever again. The Joker killed himself to make everyone think Batman killed him. Joker also was the one that made his body burn up. It was always his plan to be his final fight with Bats. He just wanted to ruin Batman in the public's eye. As far as Superman goes, he was fighting in the war to stop war not because he was just a lapdog. Yes he does what the President asks, but that's because of how powerful he is. If he didn't submit in some way to authority, then he knows the world and all it leaders would fear him and wouldn't trust him. Also it could eventually lead him down the path he went in Injustice.

I really never liked Frank Miller's portrayal of Superman as a tool of the government. While this was *technically* true throughout the 50s and 60s, it was true of *all* superheroes, Batman included. Superman's earliest stories showed him frequently breaking the law and acting as a revolutionary for social justice and change during the Great Depression, not only beating up your average criminal but also beating up dirty cops, corrupt officials, landlords, abusive husbands, wealthy elite, etc. Dark Knight Returns was meant to show a Silver Age law-bound Batman return to his vigilante roots. If that's the case, then Superman should have done the same thing and flipped the bird at the government too.
