This new movie is under fire for using AI. People are turning on “Late Night with The Devil” for their use of AI, specifically in some of the transitions in the movie. The movie has been getting rave reviews and seems to be a brand-new take on the horror genre, but there a few scenes that actually use AI. While people are weary about this, the creators of the movie responded to the criticism stating “In conjunction with our amazing graphics and production design team…we experimented with AI for three still images which we edited further and ultimately appear as very brief interstitials in the film. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had such a talented and passionate cast, crew and producing team go above and beyond to help bring this film to life. People are citing that it’ll be a slippery slope if we let even just a small of AI slide and are completely against it but what do you think?

Its not the same as Marvel with Secret Invasion, or your stupid facebook friend who thinks ttping in a prompt makes them a "real artist" The budget for the film wasnt high, and who knows what kind of a time frame they had to work with. I just came back from watching this movie, and while I really enjoyed it, I have to admit I did notice the wonky AI images. It didn't upset me, but I did find it weirdly incongruent. Why go to all the trouble and expense of making the film look and feel like a product of the 70s, and then cheap out on something so noticeable. Whether your argument is “it’s to make the film more unsettling” or “it’s only just a few images” or whatever, it still doesn’t change the fact that actual people could’ve been hired to do this. I guess they really wanted to NOT pay illustrators to do it. Honestly these title cards are usually only on screen for like maybe less than a second maybe a second or two. If I had to guess it was probably during the editing process and while the graphical artists and editors were working on this they could have gone out and maybe hired someone to do the still images but when you already have graphic and digital artist that you're paying on a shoestring budget, I don't blame them for using Ai and then editing the images further. The use of AI in this example was in service to the creative process not in service to greed and not wanting to pay people. Which is what we all want from AI anyway.

As long as stipulations and rules are set in place and watched carefully, and as long as people are credited with being the inspirations for the artwork, I would maybe be okay with it being in the arts. Personally, I don't like it doing that, but there's not really anything we can do except regulate and keep an eye out to make sure that it isn't abused. I ESPECIALLY mean it for the Voice Acting industry. Do NOT use it for that unless explicitly allowed and only under circumstances like a person cannot act at that moment, or with PERMISSION from the actor with intent to pay them for the use. To be honest, AI in the VA community could be solved if the actual actors (if they are still alive) actually DID these cover things people make, like Roger Bumpass doing Squidward singing Sinatra for an album (he would even get extra cash and I bet it would sell out fast). It would make fans SO happy and excited and AI wouldn't be necessary. I don't like it, but I don't think it detracted from the movie at all, especially since they basically turned on the AI and messed ITS art up. It was only three images. If it had been 30, maybe, but 3? Come on.

Not a problem in this case. It is for a couple of stills, to great effect, not to cut costs or be lazy. AI can be unintentionally creepy as hell. Something subtle and oddly out of place in the stills maintains unease in the viewer. A family friendly image but parts of it just aren't right and the bits that are wrong are created by something difficult to understand.

I think in this case it was fine. I am curious as to why they decided to use AI over a real illustrator, perhaps budget is the reason as this one was SUPER MEGA LOW BUDGET. I think the amount they used it where they used it it was completely harmless and unobtrusive. While I believe using AI should typically frowned upon and used as minimally as possible, slack should be cut for low budget films who need to use it just a little bit. It shouldn't replace any major elements though, but with the couple images that were used I think it was kept to a reasonable degree.

For me, as the video said, as soon as we excuse any use of AI content, no matter how small or unimportant, producers will use that to take more and more advantage of it until there is no humanity left in our films. I don't care how good this movie may be, or how brief the images are, I refuse to watch anything using this and nothing will change my mind on this

If AI destroys the movie and creative industry, its a very grim reflection of society, and maybe a fair reminder that the pursuit of art isn't supposed to be meant to support so much economic progress. If economic progress IS indeed the pursuit of the industry, then it will completely crumble under AI's pressure. And maybe that's a good thing.

It's not that simple. AI can be used to help people in other ways it should never be used to replace the hard work of human artists and creativity. Also, AI art is theft, it uses existing art only changing it slightly to make it look "unique", that's straight up plagiarism.

@@elianperezjaberso what tho? I mean I get it’s a moral thing but that’s the point of AI. It’s suppose to be able to do anything we do but faster and eventually better in every way. The only ready we don’t use it more is because it’s replacing humans. But that’s what it’s suppose to do. You don’t realize AI isn’t support to help us, it’s going to replace us. I don’t support the use of any AI or tech that mimics or can create a mimic of humanity. But I’m self aware enough to see that worrying about it taking jobs and creative license and intellectual property from people isn’t the real issue.

its good that people are complaining. Mediocrity should never be allowed. Those pictures can just be bought using stock photos but they really have to use AI? People here said that they hired someone who made a prompt and then edited through photoshop. Why cant they just use photoshop in the first place? Just use an existing photo and edit in photoshop. What a lame ass excuse. The more people give leniency about this things, the more these kinds of people get bolder in the use of AI.

TLDR I hate that I liked it, kinda fitting and ironic for a movie about the devil. Yes they could have hired and artist to do it. HOWEVER, having A.I. in a movie about THE Devil does seem somewhat fitting. In the context of the film, having the uncanny valley of ai actually added to the film’s uncomfortableness. I think it was used appropriately in the sense that “your not supposed to like it” “it doesn’t look good” “ai is a shortcut and stealing real opportunities” yeah and so is the devil. No, I don’t want to every movie have ai art everywhere (that would be a real nightmare). But in this context, if you were forced to use ai, this movie used it very professionally and thoughtfully in its writing. It does make me think, would a human be able to capture the eerie sensation that ai could give? If so, then that should have been the better move.
