I am having so much fun re-watching one piece with someone who is watching it first time.

A lot of characters are more imposing in the anime, because there's some striking height differences between Luffy and his enemies at times. And that's not something they can replicate in the live action. Morgan is just the first example of this.

I love Luffy's absolutely psycho laugh. The One Piece OST always hits. It's never once missed.

Zoro in the live action managed to deadpan a lot of the dumbass moments, but source material Zoro is just as daft as Luffy a lot of the time. Morgan's statue was actually in the live action - you can see it in a corner of his office.

Luffy is not a hero and he doesn’t want people to see him as such. Don’t let his momentary acts of kindness be mistaken for heroism.

The song at the very end before the to be continued is called "Overtaken". You will hear that song a lot and yes, every time you hear it, you will get pumped. 😁👍

3:40 If you can recall, in the live action, the rice balls the little girl made for Zoro were chocolate flavored. It was a change. Because as you saw in the anime, the rice balls are white but got dirty. The chocolate flavored rice balls in the live action were just a small call back to the dirt that got on the rice.

I more recommend you to do 2-3 episodes reaction per video bc there're many future episodes that better review in pair or triple episodes. About Live Action, the team accumulate so many things from One Piece world that revealed in manga, anime, light novel side story and manga spin off. From the setting to some throw away location name, name of crates, wine bottle, clothing brand etc. they're canonic to the source material. Fun Fact about this episode: The person who grazed Morgan's statue in 10:57 is named Ukari, meaning clumsy in japanese. In Live Action Ukari was the guys who got knocked out twiced by Nami.

yeah the animation is a little dated here, but this is one of the interesting things about one piece, as you keep going you see the animation changing and getting better and better, and there is a point far far ahead they make this first openning with the new animation, it gets pretty emotional and nostalgic, than you realize it's an amazing journey watching this anime.

I understand that they had to cut *A LOT* (all of it) of Luffy's non-fighting usage of his devil fruit in the live action but as you see here he does rocket his way to things and stretches pretty much at all times. Which is a shame about the LA since that is a vital part of his personality and sense of freedom.

If you like the soundtrack now just you wait. The music score of One Piece is absolutely amazing.

One piece's OST is one of the things I love to listen to. Especially when reading the manga. I crank that stuff up to 11 when it calls for it the most like "OVERTAKEN" or "LUFFY'S HERE" heck "WE ARE" is a continuous bop that never gets old. You'll notice that Morgan's statue is a reference to the statue in brazil. "Christ the redeemer." Yeah Oda definately takes references from our world and uses them sometimes. Luffy would be brazilian btw so it fits.

They have to get one episode every week, it's an enormous amount of work to get done in a week so of course it's not perfect, especially compared to the manga or to modern and/or shorter animes. Man it's been so long since I've seen episode 2, I absolutely did not remember a certain piece of music was introduced THAT early in the series. That caught me really off guard! I know Zoro gives the impression of harshness, but really, he doesn't want the kid to get in any trouble. He was a little mean, but I think he was just trying to chase her off before Helmeppo (or worse, Morgan) spotted her.

I feel like the live action didn’t want to make Captain Morgan as imposing and evil as he COULD’VE been because they wanted bigger fish to fry in the future. In the original story Garp doesn’t come in until way later compared to the live action. In the live action, Garp essentially replaces Morgan as the big, bad Marine Boss for the audience. They probably wanted a level 1 threat first, so Garp would feel more imposing. If Morgan and Garp both felt basically the same, why not just have one or the other. Plus, the fact that in drawings and animation, you can make characters larger-than-life, whereas that’s harder to pull off in live action (though not impossible). This holds true for many future characters in terms of size in the anime vs the live action.

I have been loving your One Piece reactions! I am already following two other reactors that are new to One Piece, but guess one more won't hurt. Anime/Manga Luffy is 1000% my favorite Luffy, but live-action Luffy was amazing at capturing his general vibe and not coming across as cringy(the whole cast was just great in my opinion). Luffy is much more brash, selfish, and aloof compared to Live action. I just really like that. Live-action Luffy seems to have matured(by Luffy standards) much faster than this Luffy. Also, a heads up. One Piece anime episodes love to put spoilers in the title. All One Piece reactors I have watched don't read them. Eather turning the captions off for that part or closing their eyes/turning away/covering the subtitles with their hands.

I remember you said you're quite busy but I think you should try to do 2 eps per video or it can take too long. As you see, after 1 ep from the LA we would already have 3 members in the crew but in the anime we're 2 eps in and still about to free Zoro and fight Morgan 😅. BTW, I had seen quite a few eps from the anime before the LA but pretty randomly and disconnected so I did know a few things but the LA was more or less my proper introduction to One Piece and it is really cool to watch it in that order. I'm now at over 100 eps in the anime though.

Yeah, I kinda agree with you on Axe-Hand. While I did like him in the live action, he didn't really come of as much of a criminal to me, and I found it difficult to understand what Garp even punished him for, and I saw the anime before the live action.

There is a lot of stuff concerning the villain characters that is toned down in the adaptation - it's probably to not alienate more "normal" audiences .... I enjoyed the LA actor for Morgan, and I presume he could have brought the anime/manga lunacy if he'd been given the opportunity.

Back in the day I used to download a decent amount of anime soundtracks to listen to, but for some reason, I don't think I ever did that for ONE PIECE. I stuck more to the more popular openings and endings. Bizarre considering how amazing the background music is, but it must have not resonated with a teenager. Being able to apply my adult practices, it's fun to learn about the music from the sources. I won't promise to understand it all, but it feels like what composer Kohei Tanaka wrote in ONE PIECE MUSIC & SONG Collection is that it's a more orthodox soundtrack than was common for the time, when there were many "curveballs". So what makes ONE PIECE special is that it's a straight "fastball", speeding ahead at 160km/h! (99,419 miles)

Great reaction! After seeing the live action and seeing the anime so close for comparison, to me the anime is on average better.

Have you thought about giving the manga a try? Anime-onlys miss out on alot of stuff. And as I mentioned in my last comment there are anime and manga differents.

I recommend that you don't read the titles of the chapters, in the first ones they almost highlight the obvious and are not very revealing, but later, practically, they spoil the plot or important points of it, in the same title. So, my recommendation is that you don't read them, so that they do not ruin the events.

Hi Mikey, Not sure if people might have pointed out this already but you might wanna avoid episode title in the future coz they contain spoilers in the upcoming episodes. Just saying.

I make it no secret that I think the anime is kind of a hollow adaptation of the manga that screws up the tension and emotional weight of various moments. Brevity is the strongest part of Oda's writing style, and it really can't be overstated how that brevity is lost when you reach a point where one chapter of the manga has to fill 22 minutes of episode. But even still, I'm glad you're enjoying this journey.

Netflix for some reason made Morgan a lot nicer and better person, than he was in manga/anime. I don't know, why. I mean, he still has an overblown ego in the adaptation, but that seems to be the only flaw he shares with the original Morgan.

I loved the Morgan in the Live Action and I think the reason you don't is because you've misunderstood the point. Morgan isn't a large than life imposing foe, he's a fraud. He an ego driven pathetic scumbag that got extremely lucky to get handed credit for Kuro's capture and then got promoted over a relivively peaceful base with well trained marines where he could falsely take credit for all that peace. In fact they actually made him stronger and more of a fighting badass in the Live Action.

Actually, no title is a good thing with one piece, they usually spoiled stuff with their title.
