You mentioned total miles that Toyota and others can go for, ie 300 - 400k, and I'd like to toss my old Ford into the list. I had an '85 F250 with the 351 Winsor motor, ran perfect and never had any major engine trouble, no rebuilds ect. The worst problem it ever had was the water pump. Doesn't sound very impressive until you put into perspective that when I sold it, it had 380k miles on it and is still going very strong at around 412k last I heard.

I've wanted a Toyota 4Runner for the longest time. Was panning to buy a new truck ($38K or so) but recently decided to wait with the finance rates being so high and whatnot. By the time I can afford to buy a 4Runner, the '24s will probably all be used and the 25's will be a huge X-factor; same with the Tacomas.

Saving money is the best way to make anything in life affordable. Get a side account, whether it be a savings account, or a money market account like Robinhood... anything you won't be tempted to touch. Now have automatically have this account take $30 from your main bank account every business day (Monday through Friday). Don't even look at it for a year. After a year, you will have $7800. After 3 years you will have over $23k. After 10 years you will have almost $80k. Buying expensive things doesn't require you to be rich, it just requires time and discipline if your short on cash.

The steering felt too heavy for me which wasnt the worst but the dealer wouldnt budge on a 2k margin for a SV LWB 4x4 and i went with a TRD sport instead v6 4x4 which i prefer much more for less price of the Nissan

I've always preferred Toyotas and my first brand new truck was a '94 4x4 highlux with the 22RE. I currently have a '00 Nissan Frontier V6 4x4 with a standard tranny that I bought from my dad. It has 207k with no major issues and just recently had to change two sensors, which were the only ones that have gone bad. I've kept up the maintenance and expect it'll probably last me awhile longer.

The only issue I've heard of from others or experienced myself with a Nissan (or old Datsun) truck was gas mileage, although my old 720 king cab with the Z24 4cylinder and stick shift got great MPG. I wish manufacturers would go back to the basics - I don't want my truck to be a luxury vehicle, but a function vehicle: the only option I care about at all is AC.

I just bought a 2018 Frontier. The gas mileage is atrocious and probably really only gets 18 on the highway. But that's charm. The truck is a dinosaur. There’s a major drop coming for the used market because of dealer overstock on new vehicles. It’s estimated to occur later this fall going into winter. Dealers are getting flooded with new vehicles which are not moving. In turn rates will go down and most likely, if you’re financially stable enough, you’d be able to pay in cash for a used vehicle because they’re going to be marked considerably down.

Had a 2006 King Cab, now have a 2008 Crew Cab. Only real problems I have seen: transmissions can be ruined by radiator lower end coming apart. Can be avoided by proactively changing out radiator at low mileage or going with and external cooler. Engine uses plastic timing chain guides, you may possibly hear a whine from the engine at some point signaling this condition. Granted, these are both expensive fixes if you're not aware. These were older trucks: 4.0 liter 6 cylinder and 4 speed automatic. Other than that, trucks hold up well. No frame rust, no body rust, at least where I'm at. Paint appears as good as any comparable year Toyota. Interior panels hold up decently. A little utilitarian, but decent. Driven Nissan for about 14 years. New truck uses a newly designed V6 and a 9 speed automatic. Who knows? They may last forever.

My husband and I are looking at a 1999 Nissan Frontier. I have a 2012 Toyota Camry. My Camry has been good to me, I recently had the racken pinon and steering worked on. No other problems, just regular maintenance.

I've bought only Titans since 2009. They are the best and I don't drive whatever one else is paying too much for! 😂

These brand-new, third-generation Nissan Frontier's with the 3.8 L V6 engine and the nine-speed automatic transmission are excellent pick-up trucks. They have much improved over the previous-generation, which had the 4 L V6 engine and the five-speed automatic transmission. This customer just bought it used, which is the wisest thing to do. Thank you very much.

Who builds the 9-speed transmission? If it is ZF, then it is a sloppy, slow-shifting transmission like the Jeep Renegade/Compass and Cherokee, certain previous Honda's, and Range Rovers.

Eh, really depends on the vehicle, buying used Tacomas right now makes no sense at all.

@@nightowl3004 I rather have higher speed transmission that gets better gas mileage the 5 speed shifts buttery smooth but it isnt efficient, and the 8 speeds tend to jerk a lot when shifitng

Thank you Mr. Kilmer. I was thinking of buying a truck and if I can get Toyota dependability without a Toyota price, I believe that you have given me a great option. Excellent Video as usual and Thank you again.

My 2011 Pathfinder (frontier) has 150k on it with no major repairs other than AC compressor at 86k. I have a 2021 Titan Pro4x with 27k that has been trouble free. Hope it holds up.

I think there are some pretty common, significant issues with that generation of Titian. I’d do some research so you know what to watch for

@@Washman-jw3hl Thank you! It is very comfortable. Quiet at speed. Sounds nice....I love a V8! I tow firewood with it. Tow my 5000lb tractor on a dual axle equipment trailer. It does it all well. A comparably equipped TRD would have been $10k more.
