just wait for sodium batteries much cheaper. infrastructure well on way. in the usa shell converting there petrol stations to electric. evs will last longer than ice and less maintenance. if your looking at affordable think second hand or dacia spring , mg cars , byd etc

@@klippe - Obviously you don't live in the US or you wouldn't be saying these things. The infrastructure problem is NOT being addressed. And what needs addressed is mainly in residential areas. EV battery packs do not have the life necessary to outlast ICE vehicles. I have a 2005 Toyota and a 2010 Honda, 19 and 14 years old, respectively and both going strong. EV battery packs would be done and in the recycle bin by this time. You might see the occasional gas station with a single charge station, but converting entire stations to electric is not happening. And on the emissions side of things, an EV has to be on the road and usable for many years before the emissions deficit it starts with is balanced, and that's only against older ICE vehicles. Newer ones actually emit less than EVs when you count all emissions. Emissions don't just come from the tailpipe. For one thing EVs are heavier than the ICE equivalent, so brake dust and tire wear are considerably higher. These count toward total emissions, but the EV community doesn't want you to know that, especially the politicians.

The data from tesla is that their battery packs will last 400,000 miles, and they are working on improving that. Data from the other manufacturers corroborate that (bmw i3. Renault zoe) The early failure of batteries is frankly false anti EV missinformation, accepting of course the nissan leaf(which I own) whose battery is absolutely pants. Its pretty accepted by battery manufacturers that the battery will likely outlast the chassis. The motor is super simple and will outlast an ICE engine very easily. Agree on the infrastructure and cost. But both are improving, still a way to go though. Also keep in mind that running costs are laughably less with an EV. The cost of never having to fill with petrol again, or give any money to the fossil fuel industry, for me is priceless. Oh. And a break down on your emissions info. You don't drive an EV so you can be forgiven for not knowing that you don't use the brakes much. The motor regen does your slowing down. Miminal brake dust compared to EV. Easy to clean wheels. Tire wear is all about the size of your car and how you drive. Big fat SUVs are terrible. Small cars better. Tyres last a very similar amount of time according to fleet management data. Many years to break even on carbon emissions? Yeah, 2. Please disregard the data from VOLVO.
