Please check your local oyster harvesting regulations!
Well I'm considering this video a Holiday present and a thank you for all of you who have been sticking with me, watching my videos and supporting me so much as I'm working to grow the channel (no matter how many googan mistakes I make)! Thank you all so much I appreciate you all and I hope you have a great Holiday season whatever you celebrate!
A few weeks back I was at the tackle shop looking for fiddler crabs but they were sold out as they often are this time of year. I started talking to this guy who works at the store and he told me about this spawn netting stuff and how he likes to use it with clams. So I bought some spawn net pre-cut squares, some magic thread and my oyster shucking knife and headed out to the creek. I decided I would rather use fresh shucked oysters as my bait than clams as I know that sheepshead love to eat them and they're plentiful around here, and man did it pay off. I don't think I'll be buying fiddler crabs again anytime soon!
Not only does this allow me to sheepshead fish whenever I want (and not just when the tackle shop has fiddlers in), but it also is saving me a ton of money. One 50 count bag of mesh bags lasted me 4+ sheepshead trips and with the magic thread only cost me $10. That's a steal!
Anyway I hope this video was nearly as helpful for you as it was for me, I'm really excited about discovering this new bait option and I've since caught plenty of big fish and have more sheepshead videos to come with this bait so stay tuned. Thank you so much for watching and have a great day!

@MakeTimeForFishing
@MakeTimeForFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Good question, you don't typically do that with circle hooks but those hooks are a little different design than a standard circle hook and I feel that I can set the hook with them and not yank it out of their mouths. Also sheepshead have really tough mouths so I feel like I lose less fish when I really drive the hook in!

Have you tried those barnacles in the mesh bags? Oysters a sorta no no where we're at but, there's barnacles everywhere.
@MakeTimeForFishing
@MakeTimeForFishing 2 жыл бұрын
You know I haven't tried that but I could see that working. I know people take barnacles and thread them on the hook, I've caught a few that way but haven't tried it too much.

@@MakeTimeForFishing I haven't had much luck getting those things to stay on the hook. The mesh bag should help.

If you make a barnacle scraper and scrape those loaded pylons and use some fiddler crabs or dead shrimp you will some bigger ones,key is scraping pylons.

You're right scraping those barnacles is like a chum for them! For this trip I was trying to be a purist to give the oysters a fair shot but I appreciate the suggestion!

Hey brother, where can I buy the little mesh bags or the material to make the bags? And what's the name of the material?
@MakeTimeForFishing
@MakeTimeForFishing 2 жыл бұрын
It's called spawn netting and I get them from atlasmikes.com but a lot of local bait shops carry them.

Another thing with those oysters, if they are attached to rocks then you can shake em around and get some small crabs

Ok, I'm sorry for not understanding, but what exactly do you mean by shaking the rock or the oyster itself?

@@hectorcoria3650 when I cast net sometimes I’ll get these oyster clusters that are attached to each other or rocks, insided the holes are small crabs, so you can either break the clusters (if it’s legal), or you can shake em around, and those little crabs will fall out, literally shaking them

Good question, the mesh I'm using to make the baits are called "Atlas Mike's Fishing Super Soft Spawn Net" and the string is called "Atlas Mike's magic thread". My local tackle shop sells them if you want to start there but they're also available online. Goodluck!
