Do you want a good lawn, regardless of the time of year? Today we will be looking at a job that needs to be done regardless of the time of year (Autumn and winter are perfect times for it)
It's something professional groundsmen and greenkeepers do to ensure they have a great lawn all year round and it's something you can do too, best of all it doesn't require any fancy tools and doesn't have to be that much work

been doing this for quite a while the only thing I find is I run out of energy. so I made up a metre square out battening and I do a square metre at time flip the metre over and do another one. When I have had enough I stop and leave the metre square where it is and come back to it next day I haven't lost where I got to.This way I can do the whole lawn. Absolutely agree with you about digging the fork in and then heaving it up.Since watching your videos I now look at the lawn completely differently and treat it more like a plant than 'lawn'

I know Jim Arthur in his book practical greenkeeping mentioned Scottish greenkeepers 'raise forking' and a skilled team could lift the turf without disturbing the putting surface in the slightest. He says what is this but verti draining with the only thing that changes is the need to do things more quickly. I agree 100% with him.

Many lawns here are on soil that used to be thickets or weedy meadows. Solid tines are popular instead of hollow because they don't bring up soil that might have weed seeds in it and herbicides have many restrictions.

This, like spike shoes are actually compressing the soil… This is not aeration. To aerate, you need to pull plugs out and backfill with sand.. think about this.. if you’re driving something into the ground, the soil has to go some place, so what happens is the soil around the spike gets compressed….

@Premier_lawns_official
@Premier_lawns_official Жыл бұрын
Rubber mats can work, dug in and let the grass grow through, if you just throw them down, the grass will grow through them but the lawn mower will hit them and you will curse yourself each time you cut the lawn and it won't look that great

This definitely works, i had a large patch of grass i grew from seed, originally there were stones slabs there so when i removed the crap under the slabs, much sand and and gravel i found the soil underneath rock solid i dumped in about 2 tones of soil in that section to bring it up to ground level and although the grass grew there it started off really green and growing well then started to go back and become very thin bladed grass and some parts turning yellow i can only assume the roots had hit that hard layer of soil and couldnt go no further, so used a garden fork and put several holes in the patch of grass and now it looks amazing....Wimbledon like grass i would of never of known about this trick if it wasn't for this channel, your tips and how too have been a massive help with seeding a whole new lawn from scratch and getting the grass to look its best.
