I've been using the version 6 of this since 2016. Can confirm these are ace. I use them indoors and outdoors under the eaves of my roof where they're sheltered from rain and have always had reliable detection with no false alerts. Excellent kit.

The biggest deal for me is that it'll take USB and consolidate loads of other things into one sensor. I'm so fed up of chasing around my house with a pack of CR2032s.

I legitimately love mine - I've bought several of them. Don't tell Aeotec, but I have one outside on my gazeebo and it has worked like a champ for almost a year on the same battery. I recommend these too.

Such a shame this is missing mmwave! Then I think it would be near enough perfect!

This is quite an old sensor though so that's why there's no mmwave in it yet.

Great piece of kit and I have loads of the MS6 out in the wild for customers but its only Z-Wave and that just makes it another network to worry about on HA. Still a good bit of kit and I run all of them from a single 5v supply so easy to keep the updates set to max rather than battery where they slow down a bit.

Z-wave is pretty well set and forget on Home Assistant these days, and as Z-Wave is sub 1GHz it doesn't cause any intereference to other networks. The things I don't like about z-wave are sellers that don't specify the frequency/region and the cost of Z-wave devices. I can by zgibee temp, humidity and barometric pressure sensor, the get a separate motion/light sensor and have money left over when compared to a MS6 or MS7.

If I had a need of a expensive sensor that could read all of those things in one location then I might buy this sensor. Only problem is I never need to read all of those things in one location. Instead I can buy a MUCH cheaper sensor that only reads what i need it to read in a specific location. I really can't think of ANY place i need one of these. And it's a good thing to as it's $75 US dollars.

What is the accuracy of humidity and temperature. I’d love to use this in my cigar humidor, depending on its accuracy.

Great review of a way over priced sensor. Most of the built in sensors would be defeated due to the perfect placement to look for vibration or infrared. Too bad as I love SmartThings which used to make great & inexpensive, as you say, kit!

Ummm are you sure it supports zigbee their tech sheet says only z wave . Also do we know is their motion detection is only PIR or mm wave sensor looking from physical appearance it looks it only has PIR

Lightlevel, did you test the light level accuracy and response times? I have a few version 6 sensors, which I agree are generally great, but the response time to changing light levels seem to be measured in weeks. I use them to turn lights on and off, but you have to add quite a bit of a delay or account for this at least because it takes so long to update. I have also never seen the UV at anything above zero. I don't even know if this feature actually works. Finally there seems to be very little difference between the version 6 and 7 sensors. Stu have you done any comparisions? Is it worth paying the extra money? Anyway great video, keep up the good work.
@EsotericArctos
@EsotericArctos Жыл бұрын
What do you compare accuracy too for the light level? Every single sensor I have, even the same brand, shows a slightly different level. That said, how accurate do you need your light level for home automation? You just need to know when it is bright or dark really. You can look at your room say, yep, that's the light level I want, then take a reading from the sensor and use that. As for how fast. The response times on the Aeotec sensor are quick, it will respond, within 30 seconds for major changes and about 15 minutes on general updates. For home automation, that is generally good enough. I am not sure what was wrong with your version 6 sensor if it take weeks to update. That is just weird and suggest z-wave network issues.. I have 2 of them and the light level is updated within 30 seconds if there is a sudden change. The Version 7 uses the 700 series Z-Wave chipset, the Version 6 uses the 500 Series chipset - Quite a big difference in technology, but not much real world difference in a sensor of this nature. If you're network is mostly 500 Series chipset devices and your controller is a 500 series chipset, then there is absolutely no benefit at all to using the Version 7. I would suggest maybe contacting Aeotec to see if there is a firmware update for your Sensor 6 devices to see if you can update the speed. Also, UV sensor has never worked for me either, unless the sensor is outside in the sunlight, then it moves a little bit. I think it just doesn't pick it up well
@MrJono1999
@MrJono1999 Жыл бұрын
@@EsotericArctos Hi, thanks for your response and feedback. Sorry, my "weeks" statement was sarcastic. I don't actually know how longe the light changes take, but it appears to be in the order of minutes not seconds. Therefore if I set a light level to turn on and off my lights I can walk out of a room and the lights go off, but when I suddenly remember to return (forgot my coffee for example), the lights wont turn back on because they think it is still bright! I will have to undertake some more in depth testing. I have just compared a series 6 sensor in my garden with my weather station and the light level difference is huge, but as you state you only really need to make a few comparisons, for what you percieve as bright or not. Have a great day Brendan 😁

So, no presences sensor?
@StusReviewsUK
@StusReviewsUK Жыл бұрын
It’s the only thing this is missing really - although as another commenter pointed out, this was released prior to presence sensors becoming a more widely explored technology. I expect we will see it in a new release from aeotec some point in the near future!

It's actually missing CO2 sensing, which arguably is even more important than temp and humidity
@StusReviewsUK
@StusReviewsUK Жыл бұрын
Yeah that would be good. Problem is size, with a co2 sensor as well, it would need to be quite a bit bigger. I think they’ve tried to balance what they’ve included to keep the size small.
@EsotericArctos
@EsotericArctos Жыл бұрын
The issue with this devices is it is Z-Wave, which measn different frequencies in different countries, and they are expensive. Also, if you need the Temperature and Humidity to measured for the room, it's not necessarily good to have that in a position ideal for a motion sensor. They are a good idea, but honestly, I can buy a Humidty, Temperature and Barometric pressure sensor and Motion and Light sensor that run on Zigbee, and still have money left over after buying both compared to the price of this sensor. Don't get me wrong, the Aeotec sensors are well built, but being Z-Wave, and all in one, are big disadvantages
