In the last video, I discussed why I don't use multi-effects pedals very often, and I made a statement.
Well, right after filming that video, a company called Mooer asked me if I was interested in reviewing their latest multi-effects pedal. Why not? I'm ready to try it out.
So today, I'm going to show you the Mooer Prime P2. This video is sponsored by Mooer, but I'll strive to be as honest as possible. I'll share what I like about it and also mention any drawbacks. Let's get started.
This is the Mooer Prime P2, the latest model following the Prime P1. Technically, it's not a pedal, but I'll refer to it as one in this video.
The body is very compact, smaller than an iPhone SE. The thickness is about the same as three SEs. On the side, it has a power button, USB Type-C connector, and a MIDI input. This pedal is compatible with OTG or “On The Go” connection, allowing you to use it as an audio interface for your phone and PC.
On the top, it has inputs, phone out, and outputs. The output is stereo compatible. The phone output supports not only regular headphones but also ones with built-in microphones. This pedal comes with a built-in touch display, a significant difference from the P1. While you can still control it with the app via Bluetooth, the touch display adds convenience.
Below the touch display, there's an LED indicator to monitor the gain, displaying three colors: green, yellow, and red.
The touch display allows you to select banks, presets, and accessing additional features like Bluetooth, pairing button, tuner, and volume control from the pull-down menu.
This pedal can store 20 banks, with each bank holding 4 presets, allowing you to store a total of 80 presets.
There are some cool default presets. Let’s listen to some of them.
Sounds pretty nice, right? The default presets are already versatile. If you want to modify or create your own presets, you can customize them on the app.
This pedal has 52 amp simulators, 25 cabinet simulators, and 57 effect models. It also has 10 more slots for both amps and cabs, allowing you to install more patches from the cloud through the app. Additionally, you can use third-party cabinet IR files, installable through a PC software called "Mooer Studio"
Once your phone is connected to the pedal, you can play music on the pedal from your phone, making it convenient for practice.
You can also control the drum machine, looper, and the metronome from the app. The looper has storage for 10 loops, each with 8 minutes, the drum machine offers 56 different styles, and the metronome has 4 types of beats.
If you want footswitches, you can use either a wireless one released by Mooer or a MIDI footswitch to control the pedal.
Now, let’s talk about the pros and cons. Here are some pros about this pedal:
First of all, it’s very compact, not taking up much space, yet it can store a bunch of presets and offers various features.
OTG can be very useful if you want to record your guitar directly on your phone or camera outside.
This pedal can be used as an audio interface, and if your headphones have a microphone, the phone output can recognize the signal. This allows the pedal to mix the guitar sound and microphone sound for recording or live streaming. So you don't have to prepare many gears for recording. This pedal has everything already.
The touch display makes the experience much easier and better. Once you set up the presets, you don’t need to use the app to change them.
Being compatible with third-party cabinet IRs definitely expands the possibilities of this pedal.
Now, there are some cons:
First of all, the headphone output has some noise. It's not too bad and doesn’t affect the output sound, but it bothered me a little bit.
You can’t change the tuning frequency on the pedal while using the tuner. You can only change it on the app. If it allowed me to change it on the pedal, it would be much better.
This pedal has everything from a bunch of effects to an audio interface. However, I feel like it's not exactly for beginners. It's not too difficult to use, but it currently costs about 250USD on amazon, and I can't say it's a budget pedal. if I were a beginner, I might choose an easier and slightly cheaper option.
But overall, I like this pedal. It's very powerful. Although I think this pedal won’t replace your entire pedalboard or rigs, it's going to be super useful for live streaming or quick video filming. If you'd like to have a compact, all-in-one guitar processor for your gig or live streaming, the Prime P2 will definitely be your partner.

I have the Mooer Prime P1 that im using it for almost a year and a half now. Using it in record, practice and Live gig. The portability of this device really saved me. Before I'm having two bags to bring in my gigs, now I'm only bringing my guitar bag, all my gear is in there including extra shirt. If you have the bluetooth pedal board you can see the tuner indicator from the small lcd screen, i guess its the same with p2.

Mine has a high pitched wine. Makes it almost unusable. I hear a similar wine in yours. If they can resolve that, it will be a possible backup, but I can’t play something that introduces unnecessary noise.

Hey Ray, do you also get a lot of noise on this? Ive bought and returned two because the noise is too bad. Also the looper function doesn't seem to work properly?

Hi awesome review. May I ask if the looper function will also record the audio from the mic in, for looping vocals?

To get rid of the noise, reduce the display brightness For a solo performer, use the headset jack's mic connection to input your singing mic. The vocal channel has its own controls, including FX such as reverb and eq Now you have a true all-in-one unit that only needs plugging-in to the PA. Can't find any info on the MIDI codes....anyone know?

Nice tip, the brightness reduces the noise, but its definitely still there and its unusable if youre playing with high gain. , do you also get a lot of noise on this? Ive bought and returned two because the noise is too bad. Also the looper function doesn't seem to work properly? just wondering if youd had the same issues. a lot of users have had the problem but almost no reviewers mention it.

@@mikampofo No. I became excited for about a day and then decided that it wasn't for me. I'm sticking with my Digitech GNX4. Ancient but _still_ the most capable device ever created.

Hi there Ray. Good video! I have the Prime P2. I love it. I do have one question, I truly appreciate it if you can reply: How can I use it to directly record on my Android phone? I have a Google Pixel 6 phone and I connected the USB-C from Prime P2 to my phone, but I can't get the audio into the phone. If I use the camera, then it is using the phone's mic and not the USB. If using a daw like N-TRACKS it doesn't seem like I can actually produce the sounds coming from the guitar. Any ideas on this? THANK YOU SO MUCH !!

Hey thanks for asking. You’ll need an OTG adopter to use this as an audio interface for your phone. It can be found on Amazon and Mooer does sell it there too. Once you connect it through the adopter it should be ok.

The idea is good, but unfortunately it's a cheap china toy. Got my fourth device already after three of them stopped working after a few days. Don't buy this toy. It was my first and last product of this company called mooer.
