The twist with the Spanish was so satisfying; it was very in keeping with the intense devotion to their faith at that time in history, not to mention their desire to conquer and control any source of power. I think it's in one of the extended or delete scene where they mention that a mermaids kiss can make you breath water and make you live underwater. Since the whole thing is when they sing their siren song all sailors want to kiss, and by vexing them with the possibility they drag them to the depths to eat. BUT should one actually care for you and kiss you, then you basically get to live out your days as a uh...breeding source.

It seems the one thing Jack fears more than his mortality is the mortality of others. Throughout these films, he came across 3 separate methods to achieve immortality, and turned them all down. The cursed Aztec gold? He saw first hand what it did to Barbossa and his crew, so it obviously wasn't worth it. Stabbing the heart of Davy Jones would have made him the immortal captain of the Flying Dutchman, yet he gave it up to save Will, valuing his friends life over eternal life. The Fountain of Youth certainly appealed to him, but he instantly lost interest when Angelica told him it required human sacrifice. When it was destroyed and it only had enough water left for one last life transfer, he used it to save Angelica. In short, Jack would rather a short but adventurous life than an eternity alone.

@@Bobal27 for me 5's the worst, the new characters are not as good as will and Elizabeth, Jack's character seems off, he feels more dumb in that film, coming to his iconic form towards the middle, but then being shadowed by the other characters, Barbossa and the OG cast was great, and Salazar was phenomenal. It's just the plot feels weak and the humour is hit-or-miss. I enjoyed 4 though. Jack and Angelica were very fun to watch.
@Bobal27
@Bobal27 11 ай бұрын
@@rudrodeepchatterjee I have those opinions in reverse. To each their own. I wasn’t an Angelica fan, she felt jammed into it. Yes, Will’s son is a bit thick, but I loved the plot, and it had undeniably the best of the characters that mattered most. Also, the best ending by far. 4’s ending was a slight let down for me, just from the delivery of “I’ll have one last fight, by God!” They’re all great, just slightly different shades of “off.”
@rudrodeepchatterjee
@rudrodeepchatterjee 11 ай бұрын
@@Bobal27 I will agree. 5's ending was good. From the final fight to the reunion, it was all very good. And I guess yeah, I could see why you think angelica was forced, I just view this film separately from the trilogy, giving it the freedom to switch the cast up for a stand alone story, so I didn't have a problem with it. Giving the same freedom to 5, carina was fine, albeit irritating at times, and will's son was kinda meh. I think Barbossa, Salazar, and later on Jack carried the fifth instalment.
@Bobal27
@Bobal27 11 ай бұрын
@@rudrodeepchatterjee 100% agree. Blackbeard and Angelica wasn’t strong enough to top _____ and ______ (spoilers avoidage), 3’s final battle was close, imo, but putting all five on even footing, including Jack as .5 of a character in five, I’d say my order is probably 1/5, 1/5, 3, 4/2, 4/2. Forgive the kinda draws, but really, I think that if I developed a point system, all five would likely end up within 5 points of each other (for cast, ending, story, action, moments, etc.).

I really liked the twist with the Spanish at the end. Especially because almost every time they were mentioned throughout the film, the British characters pointed out that the Spanish were Catholics. And to respond to Vkunia's comment; God did not necessarily create the Fountain as it was when they found it. The ritual is described as "profane," as in to desecrate. So more likely, in the mind of the Spanish, God created the miracle of the Fountain, but evil people desecrated it to use it for personal gain in defiance of God's will. So by destroying it, you are really removing a great evil from the world. And I think that is very in line with the Conquistador mentality of the film's time period.

The Spaniard is one of the most interesting characters in the movie for how little he actually speaks. They play it up like the Spanish are after the fountain to use it, but despite having the overwhelming advantage when they get there, he's just like "Nah, fuck this place. Tear it down." He honors the guy that tried to stand up to him by ensuring that he'll remembered for his courage, gives Angelica the chance to hand over the chalices peacefully, doesn't hurt her when she refuses, just smashes the the damn things without a second thought, and goes to confront Blackbeard, one of the most feared men on the seven seas like it's nothing to him. That is a man that is 100% confidant in what he's doing and what he stands for, and I really have to respect that. He doesn't once in all of this think of what might benefit himself and never wavers in his convictions.

As far as the Pirates of the Caribbean movies are concerned, 1-3 are pretty much perfection in my opinion. The fourth movie was a pretty good one as well. Not as great as the original three but still a good movie to watch. The only real issue with this movie that I can say is that it feels like an extended epilogue to the original trilogy or just a straight up spin-off. But aside from that I don’t really have any complaints about the movie as a whole. It was just a very unnecessary story. However…. Say what you want about POTC 5, but that final scene in the movie was phenomenal. I know that a lot of people do have their complaints about pirates 4 and 5. But tbh, that last seane in the 5th movie really justified everything that happened after the 3rd movie. And considering it seems Johnny Depp definitely is not returning to the role. I’m happy that the ending of the fifth movie really felt excellent enough to be the ending point of the entire storyline for POTC…. Or at least a Great ending for Captain Jack sparrow’s character. No way Disney will let this franchise just end. As for the almost inevitable potc 6. I suppose they could make use of that throwaway line from pirates 4 where Angelica says “I am with child yours” I guess they can make a new storyline following up on Jacks kid & Elizabeth and Will’s son, & Barbossa’s daughter all join up as a team. Then they go on a whole new adventure. Their will most likely be original cast members returning with significant rolls, or at least cameo appearances in the movie. If there is any mention of Jack sparrow, it’ll likely be an explanation saying that last they heard he retired to have a quiet peaceful life. Or sought new adventures far away from the Caribbean and doesn’t know he has a child.

I really like this movie (although I might be biased because of the mermaids. I loved their lore and the CGI here. There is not enough mermaid movies). Earlier in the movie it was said that according to the lore, you will be able to breathe under water if a mermaid kisses you. So in my headcanon, Syrena and that man live happily under water :D The fifth movie wasn't really my cup of tea, mostly because it felt like the writers didn't write Jack even remotely well. If you just look at it like a Barbossa movie, it's ok, but I'm really sad what they did to Jack in that movie. The 4th was the last good one for me.

Juan Ponce de Leon was a real person, him looking for the Fountain of Youth is myth 30:36 he planned an escape in the beginning. Purposefully being annoying with the chains, the napkin on the floor. Even in the first movie, him testing Will’s swordsmanship is a trick to letting him get to the door I’m pretty sure Jack meant Barbossa deserved to die when the Pearl was “sunk”, not that he would have gone down with it. He in fact says “You _should_ be sunk with it.” He believed him about the sinking, but not about really being on the British side. And maybe Barbossa also believes it was sunk, he just didn’t see that it actually got shrunken down. It’s the sword that gives that holds the power. The Sword of Triton Eh, I’d say Jack was afraid of dying in 2 & 3. His motivation in 1 is revenge on Barbossa. He does curse himself with the treasure but he gives that up bc he knows it’s a curse I forget which one, but one of the Blackbeard crew said that a kiss from a mermaid supposedly lets you breath underwater. So he should be fine

40:20 Of curse. It's almost impossible to fall in love with someone that you don't find physically attractive. The strange thing is that he's ready to sacrifice his life for her, on the basis of physical attraction alone. It's an odd contrast to the love between Jack and Angelica which is primarily based on their mutual personalities.

the story of the mermaids is that if one is kissed by a mermaid, they are given the power to live/survive underwater without drowning. Also there was a deleted scene, in White Cap Bay after Jack jumps off the exploding tower, a mermaid approach’s him and slaps his face

Not going to lie, when I saw this in theaters, I hated it. Coming off the first three amazing movie's, it felt very watered down, I even dozed off a couple of times which I've never done at a movie theater. It wasn't until subsequent viewings afterwards when I got the DVD that I grew to really appreciate the movie for what it was. I look at it as a spin off with Jack and Barbosa, which they are amazing when they're on screen together. The mermaids were pretty cool too

They did mention it in the last film. Hint at it really. Him and Jack off to the side while all the other pirates were arguing. “How’s mom?” And he pulled her shrunken head out of his pocket. Then there was the bit when the dog brought him the keys for “The Code”. The others were looking in disbelief as it’s the same dog from the jail cell in Port Royale and the same dog they left on the cannibal island. They look confused, he smiled and just said “sea turtles mate”. Never expressly stated but definitely implied.

The legend of the mermaid is that a Mermaid's kiss can save a man from drowning. So she gave him her power to hold his breath for an unnatural length of time so they could live in the ocean. But you never really find out for sure. Mermaids also according to legend lure men into the sea to drown him so it could have been that but unlikely. However the other mermaids would most likely not approve of her having a human lover and would kill him themselves. But they could go off and live alone away from the others. So unless they make another movie or tell what happened over 10 years later, you probably will never really know.

when the quartermaster "slit" philip's throat, he actually jabbed him with a sleeping dart so it looked like philip had been killed. once the drugs wore off, he came back for her. his loyalty to her and the relief of seeing him alive made her cry. the pirates then sprang into action and caught her tear (quartermaster has prophetic vision so im guessing thats how they knew this plan would work plus the quartermaster was the one to "kill" philip too). just to explain that scene ;w;

This is the point in the franchise where people either stop watching the next ones because they heard how weird/bad they were or they continue because they want to see more/are aware of how weird they are and don't give a damn. Either way, this franchise is awesome, and I can't imagine anyone other than Johnny Depp in the role of Jack Sparrow, it's sad what happened to him in hindsight (curse you, Amber Heard!!!). Love the reactions, have a good day, and I hope that one day we can get to Transformers.
